This book... I have mixed feelings about. In one hand, I love the main character. I love that even though she's going through something crazy, she has a sense of humor and hold on to her sarcasm. This type of character is honestly extremely refreshing. I also love the idea of the book. Spontaneous human combustion? What? You NEVER see books written about this topic and I thought it was awesome that there's one available.
On the other hand, the story seemed to be dragged out quite a bit. There's more than one moment in the book where I honestly thought it was going to end, only to look and realize that I still half or a quarter of the book left. While the story and the characters were great, the progression of the book just seemed like it was overdoing it, like the author was just adding more and more to get a certain word count. There were a few times where I honestly had to force myself to keep reading because I find myself distracted easily and losing interest.
Unique and humorous - this is one that has moved relatively well at our public library.
I received this ARC thanks Netgalley. I requested it because I enjoy YA and dark humor. At first it was amusing but then it became a bit much - and I like dark horror. Give it a try if you like dark comedy.
What I read did not match my expectations in the slightest. Maybe I was confused about what I was requesting?
