I absolutely loved this story! It truly touched my heart and I loved everything about it from the characters to the storyline.

Jay Asher is an automatic purchase for my library system, and I think readers will be very surprised by this one after all of the controversy surrounding Thirteen Reasons Why, which has been challenged numerous times. The cover is gorgeous and the story is so sweet. I love recommending this one to teens that come into my library.

This is such a cute story! It does fall into the YA category But that doesn’t stop it from being good!
Sierra’s family runs a Christmas tree farm in Oregon and from Thanksgiving to Christmas every year they moved to California in an airstream to run a Christmas tree lot. So every year she lives two lives one with her friends in Oregon and one with her friends in California for a month. While working on the lot she notices a cute boy with the perfect dimple. However Caleb’s reputation proceeds him. While in eighth grade and fighting with his sister about their parents divorce he pulled a knife and slammed it into her bedroom door many times. Unfortunately word has gotten around the town even though he’s thru therapy and has had no other trouble people still talk. Unfortunately Sierra‘s parents hear about his troubles from an employee of the tree lot instead of from her. After all the misconceptions disapproval and suspicions around them and their relationship will they be able to hold it together? If you pick up Jay Ashers, What Light let me know what you think!

I feel like it wasn't realistic for how nice the people are and sweet. I guess it was just unbelievable as well. I didn't like the writing at all. I was hoping to enjoy it more but maybe most Christmas things aren't for me anymore.

This was a super cute story about a girl that lives on a Christmas tree farm - and every year during the holiday season she leaves her friends to go with her family to another area to sell the Christmas trees she grows. There, she has another best friend and people she see's every year. This might be her families last year, due to financial struggles, and it also happens to be the year she falls in love. It was interesting to watch her romance with Caleb develop, and see the challenges that came up and how they were handled. I really liked Caleb's character, possibly the most out of this story. This is the third Jay Asher book that I have read. They have all been really well done, but this one was an actual feel good story that was fun to read and didn't have the heavier impact that the first two did. It would make a fun seasonal read, to help you get into the holiday spirit.

I received, from NetGalley,an ARC of a preview of this book which was downloaded to another device which I no longer have access to. In an effort to catch up on my reviews I am attempting to obtain copies of the books that were down loaded to other devices. What Light by Jay Asher is one that I was glad to find the complete book. This is the story of Sierra and her parents, who every year leave home for the holidays, to set up and run a Christmas tree lot. During the final year she meets and gets to know Caleb, who is fighting his own past demons. Her parents worry about her getting involved when they will be returning home at the end of the season. This is a young adult book but very well written and good to read during the Christmas season. Living in New York, I see the sidewalk tree lots every year and never stop to thing what is the story of those who run it. Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for providing me with the opportunity to discover an enjoyable book

these characters are SOOOOOO nice and polite. it made me start to grind my teeth. I made it 50% thru and couldn't take it anymore.
love the cover. love the Christmas tree lot and the Oregon/Californian setting (my home states!) but don't like the characters or writing.

I am sorry to say that I didn't get a chance to read this title before it expired from my e-reader. :(

I absolutely love Jay Asher's books. this was just a preview of his book and I found it amazing. I plan on buying the full book so I can see Sierra's life takes off.

Loved this preview! Will definitely buy the book. Sad that it didn't have more, but that's what the preview is about. Dip your toe in, see if you like it, wind up loving it, and then go buy the book!

I greatly enjoyed this preview. I've read a lot of Jay Asher's books, and this just reinforced why he is one of my favorite authors. I love his writing style. I plan on picking up the full book from my library immediately.

Not my type of book, I tried to start it but just couldn't get into anything about this book!

Can't keep this one on the shelf in my high school library!

OMG!!! I need to finish this book right now!! Loved teen drama and I sense it'll have a lot of it.
Now I just have to get the ebook and read it all.

Sierra’s family owns and operates a Christmas tree farm in Oregon. Each year, just before Thanksgiving, they migrate south to California for one month where they set up their trees to sell for the season. Though they are only in California for one month out of the year, they have been doing this so frequently that Sierra has been able to establish a close friendship with a girl named Heather (in addition to her two best friends back home). Sierra’s parents always hire “ball players” to help with their tree sales. One boy, Andrew, always flirts with Sierra and tries to get her to go out with him, but she refrains from getting involved with anyone in California primarily due to the timestamp on their stay. Heather thinks that it would be good for Sierra to date, if for no other reason than to have someone to double date with her and her clueless boyfriend. Sierra is hesitant and resistant to dating, especially during the holidays...until she meets Caleb. Caleb has a reputation, an allegedly violent history, but that’s not the person that Sierra sees. In her heart, she knows that he isn’t that person and the more time she spends with him the more she proves herself right. Caleb explains the details and underlying issues that led to this one-time situation and while Sierra understands and those involved have forgiven him, can Caleb forgive himself?
At its core, this is a book about forgiveness: both of others but, perhaps most importantly, of ourselves. On its surface, this is a story about a girl and a boy who fall for each other and seemingly against all odds (reputation, distance, disapproval, etc.) struggle to make it work. In the process, the girl blows off her friends, fights with her parents, and falls swiftly for a boy she really doesn’t even know in a very short span of time. Friendships are strained, but attended to and there is some resolution by the end. Families’ lives are brightened by Caleb’s (and, subsequently, Sierra’s) holiday cheer. Overall, it’s a sappy (pun somewhat intended) story without too much depth, an underwhelming plot, and flat characters. The writing, as always with Asher, is decent but perhaps not enough to salvage the story. What Light is a quick and somewhat charming read for the holidays, not unlike watching a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie.

The premise of forgiveness was great for this book but wouldn't want teens to think it is ok to be violent.

I loved Jay Asher's novel Thirteen Reasons Why, and I was so excited for his new novel. I am very pleased to read the excerpt, but I don't think that was the best way to introduce this work. The first two chapters just aren't that impactful: we don't even meet most of the characters in the California part of the main character's life. I will definitely plan to read the rest of the book because I love Jay Asher, not because the sneak peek was engaging. I don't review books that I haven't finished, so until then, I can't publish a full review on my blog, Read This Book Y'all, but I will tease it on my social media accounts on Litsy (@readthisbookyall), Twitter (@readthisyall), Instagram, and Facebook (ReadThisBookYall). Thank you!

I got a preview of this book, a "Sneak Peak" from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
In just a short number of pages, I was immersed in an interesting teenager's world and met her three best friends. I was terribly put out when my preview pages ended--I wanted more, and did not want to stop reading until I had every bit of what the novel promised it held for me. I can't wait!
I finally got my turn with the local library consortium in Ohio had the ebook available. I was not disappointed, and the whole story came together so well. A very nice Christmas seasonal read!
I suspect Teenagers/YA will love this as much as I did.

I am slightly intrigued by this.
I enjoyed Jay's previous book and will have to read this now that it's available.
