Never would I have expected to read a children's book written by Tahereh Mafi. And more than that, I wouldn't have expected to enjoy it this much! The writing was superb and I thoroughly enjoyed the action as well.
I can't have a full view of the book because this was an avanced short only the first caps view so this isn't a full review.
I love the autor, I love to read it, I wanted to read more. The story, the magic and the characters really give you empaty, and the narrative is great for a fast read.
I love it.
Highly enjoyed this character and her unwavering loyalty to finding her dad and being herself in a world that does not accept her.
This is filled with a unique magic system that is used as currency and I loved that it showed how the magic was used in two different lands.
The lands too were really wonderful and I got a lot of Wonderland feels because of how wacky and fun everything was.
I also liked that this dealt with darker subjects, but kept them light, the main one being feeling alone, being rejected, and coming to terms with loving one's self.
All that being said, I didn't care for the writing style, though I know this is meant for younger audiences. The names were repeated so many times that I began to skip them because it became annoying.
Overall though I really did enjoy this, I thought the world was wonderful. I wish we had seen more of the Furthermore lands, especially since there were so many of them. The end felt a little too wrapped up too quickly, but it was still fun.
How could this not be a great book? The main character's name is Alice.. This is a book that both girls and boys will love to read. The writing is terrific as well as the descriptions.
Tahereh Mafi never fails to write flawless and original fiction. As always, I loved it!! The characters were amazing and Mafi has such a brilliant writing style that makes it so easy to fall into her books would definitely recommend.
This book speaks to my soul. It has so many elements that I want in a book that I just never wanted it to end.
It's an Alice in Wonderland retelling, which seems completely obvious now that I know that, but when I started, I hadn't really read anything about the book aside from Tahereh Mafi and juvenile fiction. This girl's name is Alice, Yvonne. How did you not see it coming?
The book follows Alice, who is completely colorless aside from her honey colored eyes, and Oliver, a boy who wasn't kind to her when they were younger. They go on an adventure to find Alice's father, who has been missing for 3 years and was last seen holding a ruler by the lake. Oliver takes Alice into Furthermore, a land where Time should not be wasted, lest you go to jail, and most of the residents want to eat you for your magic. He tells Alice he knows exactly where her father is, and she will stop at nothing to be with him again.
I just... I have absolutely no words for how this book makes me feel, but my heart hums just thinking about it.
The lush prose, the stunning visuals, that cover...
I will never stop staring at that cover.
I was not able to download the Sneak Peak because of internet issues but I was able to eventually buy the full book and read it, this book is absolutely wonderful. I was nervous because I loved her Shatter Me trilogy and I was curious to see how she would do with this book since it's her first venture into Middle Grade, but this is so well done. This book gives you a amazing adventure that you never saw coming and I absolutely loved it.
Glad to know that I would actually like this book, before I purchased it.
As a 63-page taster of this middle-grade fantasy, this was intriguing enough to make me want to seek out the full novel. Mafi is a genius with prose, and even in this short sample you get a clear sense of the strange world she has built. Interesting and unusual.
