This is a short, TED book. A nice addition to the topic, yet I strongly recommend to go deeper with much more sources.
Pluses - the book is easy to read and understand and it offers nice pieces of wisdom in engaging way and offers some interesting results about what motivates us.
Minuses - being a short format, the work is also somewhat superficial on the subject of motivation. The content is in accordance with the popular overall thinking (or vice versa?) about the human connection being the highest motivating factor - and while I do not disagree, I also think that the answer is more complex and that when preferring the "humanity" content only without taking bravery, adversity, moral strength etc. into account we might end with supporting the "snowflake mentality" when one wants to be silver-spooned only.
But having said that, I also gained some pearls of wisdom from this book and I hope to remember them and to use them well.
Payoff is a summary book. It doesn’t offer spectacular new insights into motivation, but it does remind us of the basics. Money is not the most important motivator, and can indeed be a disincentive; connection and ownership are powerful incentives, and should be recognized and valued.
