Was excited for this because I liked the other books in this series but this book just didn't do anything for me. I started it but after putting it down, I was never moved to pick it back up.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review Hard to Fall. Unfortunately, I was never able to get into it and I have no plans to rate or review it at this time.

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

There is nothing I don't love about Hard to Fall by Marquita Valentine, the book is well written and like the rest of the series, you cannot help but love the characters and their stories from the get-go.

Saylor is cute and quirky and even though they are opposites, Hayden is the absolute perfect guy for her. The book is hot, steamy, and with delicious twists, its perfection in a book.

HARD TO FALL - Marquita Valentine

#4 in the Take the Fall romance series

NOT FOR ME - 2 stars

Plot - 2 stars - Hayden, a firefighter captain, is being persuaded by his senator father to take a political seat. Hayden has made a life for himself that he's happy with, but he's feeling the pressure of a promise made long ago. Saylor runs an animal shelter and considers herself "forgettable." When she and Hayden get married after over-drinking at a wedding, they need to figure out how to move forward.

Writing - 2.5 stars - The writing was smooth and easy to read, although I couldn't get past the uncomfortable premise where adults behave irresponsible teenagers.

Characters - 1.5 stars - This is where the story fell way short for me. Hayden considers himself to be a professional, interested in caring for the community as a firefighter rather than a senator. But his immature behavior really bothered me. He says he "doesn't act like that anymore" when his father accuses him of dallying, but he actually does have a sexual encounter during a political party, and then he gets so drunk that he can't remember getting married after a friend's wedding. Then he has another sexual tryst at another political dinner. Not impressive, buddy. Saylor, for her part, is apparently beautiful but one of those women who is so insecure that she's constantly putting herself down. She keeps men away by acting all wisecrack-y. Hayden considers it adorable, but I felt she was trying too hard and was just plain weird. On top of all this--she's basically a liar. She takes forever to tell Hayden that they got married, then she pretty much makes a joke out of it. Then she completely keeps her father's name a secret even though it's obviously a very important fact in their relationship. How can she say she cares about him and is worried about what he'll think about her when he obviously can't/shouldn't trust her. Both of them had major flaws that I couldn't get past.

Title - 2 stars - I understand that the series is called "Take the Fall," with the titles following that format. But I'm not sure why this one is Hard to Fall. Maybe because Saylor keeps putting Hayden off at first?

Cover - 2.5 stars - A fairly typical cover for this genre. No bright colors, nothing to draw the eye. But I do like the font.

Overall - 2 stars - I was notably underwhelmed. I've had my ups and downs with the previous books in this series, and this one was definitely a down. And it was because of the characters. Neither was particularly appealing, and both had plenty of negatives for me. Their problems were mostly all self-inflicted, the result of their poor choices. The fact that Hayden is connected to politics and Saylor is connected to Hollywood should have taught them to be discreet, but their behavior was totally irresponsible, in my opinion. And the sexual scenes, although well written, were way too plentiful. Apparently they didn't really have much of a relationship except for that since it was the main focus on any of their interactions. I would have preferred to get to know them a little better, to hear about their jobs (both of which were interesting), and the "meet" them in a variety of settings. Now that I've read the books I downloaded from NetGalley, I don't think I'll continue with this author. She and I just don't see eye-to-eye with character development.

Lots of sweet and sexy moments. Enjoyed some of the humor. This one just didn’t click for me right from the beginning. How Hayden and Saylor get together just didn’t work for me. He’s black out drunk and doesn’t remember over 2 days of time where he has had sex and married someone. Isn’t that oh so romantic!? Nope! It’s not. And that scenario isn’t rectified in a satisfactory way. Plus, there’s that scene between Hayden and some other woman that was just gross and unnecessary. I really tried to enjoy the sweet moments and the cute connection between Hayden and Saylor, but it was all a bit too awkward and quirky. Plus, Saylor lies for too long and then when that lie is out, she lies again! Also, Hayden was so lame about not standing up to his parents; he was willing to marry some other random woman if Saylor didn’t agree to marriage! Seriously! Saylor meant so little to you that you’d choose keeping your job over her; eww! I don’t know; the story kept me entertained the whole time though, so I went with a 3 star. I did give the 2nd book in this series a 5 star; all the others a 3 star, so not my favorite series, but the series is overall entertaining and has some fun moments with lots of sweetness.

very enjoyable, yet quite cliche

I liked the chemistry between the two MCs. Their dialogues were fun.
Yet I did think that the character building was too cliche.
The storyline while cute & fluffy had not unexpected twists - it goes from a to b to c- like a good cute & fluffy
I like Valentines writing style and the pace she set.
And while it might be a bit usual usual, I still enjoyed reading this.

Hard to Fall was the 4th book in the Take the Fall series, and can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book and I adored Hayden. A fireman, super sexy and swoon worthy! Hard to Fall is a super sweet must read that will have you swoon all over this hot fireman!

A fantastic read. Random yet destined meeting of two young souls develop into a close and sought after relationship. Family connections may meddle here and there but a partnership this strong can holdfast against anything.

Hayden and Saylor, such a mismatched couple and so much confusion and so many secrets. Loved their journey. Saylor needed to find someone like Hayden who could help her find her worth and put the past and all the hurts behind her, drawing out the HEA with Hayden's forgetfulness just made it all the more sweeter when it came.

I loved Hayden and Saylor's story. We get to watch them both mature in their relationship and enjoy the ride. I loved how Saylor and Hayden handle their budding relationship and in the end get their HEA. I highly recommend this book.

Saylor is a sweet girl, who always felt alone.

Hayden is a very attractive, hard working firefighter.

They meet during their friend´s wedding, they have a great time and decide to do something crazy. The problem is that Hayden doesn´t remember the time spent with Saylor and at the same time, she felt a connection between them. But now her feelings are hurt.

This is a recipe to disaster!

Hard to Fall is awesome! Is very entertaining and you´ll find yourself cheering for the characters.

This book is part of the Take the Fall series but it can easily be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend this series.

I feel like every time Marquita Valentine comes out with a new book, I pretty much have to clear my entire schedule out so that I can just binge read the book in one sitting. Unhealthy? Maybe. Obsessive? Probably. Addictive? Thankfully!

Hayden and Saylor are hands down one of my favorite couples that Marquita has written about thus far. They hook up one night after their friends' wedding, and Saylor has the night of her LIFE. Unfortunately, she wakes up the next morning, and Hayden doesn't remember a thing! Just her luck, right?!

These two were so much fun to read, I just cannot say that enough. They both had their own personal family issues to deal with. And it was a joy to see them realize that together they were able to be strong as a team, and they helped each other overcome their weaknesses. Saylor reminded me of myself, in that she was just an odd duck, but quirky and fun in her own way. She was different. She wasn't like every other girl out there, and that definitely appealed to Hayden. He really needed someone that wanted to take care of things on her own, feel wanted and desired, and someone that was willing to ask for help every once in a while.

This book was a great addition to the Take The Fall Novels. I am going to need to go back and re-read this one ASAP!
