This was a quirky mystery and I really enjoyed it. I love the character of Sam and find her to be quite interesting. The plot is well cRafted and I enjoyed being along for the ride.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a very entertaining read with a bit of everything, mystery, romance, humour. Recommended.
Interesting characters, very noir, convoluted but un-put-down-able plot
Well written with twists and compelling characters that made me want to know what happens to ALL of them...
This book tries far too hard to be a hardboiled mystery novel that wants to be adapted into a movie. The plot has the standard tropes of corruption, double crosses, and a climax that drags on far too long. The best part, which is its only original aspect to differentiate it from other hackneyed hardboiled mysteries, is the burgeoning love affair between the private investigator and the contract killer. Both are likeable, funny, and more or less believable (in the world of people who can bike a mile in two minutes and people who assassinate others for pay). Not recommended.
I requested this book because of the title. I thought it was clever. As a result, I actually ended up reading a very entertaining mystery novel. Sam is a PI/ bike messenger in Glasgow and she finds herself entangled in a rather complex murder mystery. There are mobsters, dirty cops, corrupt politicians, and don't forget the hitman. As Sam and Fergus unravel the mystery and try to stay among the living, they also start an internet romance that is bound to be a bit of a failure once they find out what each actually does for a living. I definitely recommend it. I may even go back to read the first one in the series.
Nice read and easy to follow story line. Look forward to reading this author again
Oddly entertaining, given the subject matter- mostly because it's funny and the characters are so good. Loved the setting and the twistiness of the plot. This is a good read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'm going to look for Stringer again. You will like this if you enjoy uncategorizable thrillers/mysteries/romance with a bit of grit and a sense of humor.
