Margaret Murray is the only daughter of the Duke of Kirk. He has picked a monster for her husband. Her father won't listen so she is running. She wears some of her brother's clothing and sneaks out into the forest and heads out. She is lucky she spent so much of her time being taught by her brothers. She knows how to use a bow and arrow and other manly things. She is also not afraid of the forest and traveling off the roads. She knows her father will chase her,
Lachlan Cameron, the laird of clan Cameron, swore he would never marry. The girl he had grown up with had just betrayed him. Now he thinks all women are the same. They had been followed by Conall's henchmen. They wanted what he had. The Camerons were a goodly distance from their land and support. A fi9ht ensued. Maggie was hiding behind a bank. She hoped they finished and left soon. She found an injured man and her training kicked in and she helped him. Lachlan almost killed her. All he saw was a boy leaning over his brother. He was still in the fight to kill mode. He banged her head against a tree and you could hear the sound when it hit. Needless to say, she was out.
This was a wonderful read. The men were tanned, strong, and warriors. The author's writing was excellent and enjoyable. She writes with such finesse. It is great the way she keeps your attention while entertaining you.
The plot has some interesting twists to it and of course, Conall has a lot to do with their concern. I truly enjoyed it. It was exciting.

This book is an example of why I love reading historical romances so much! I absolutely loved Lachlan and Maggie's story, so much goes on from the time they meet until they finally reach their HEA. Lori Ann Bailey writes this story so well, you can feel every emotion the characters feel and you can picture everything in your mind.

Lachlan is the type of hero I fall in love with every time and Maggie is the type of heroine that I adore. Both of them together makes for an explosive relationship filled with heated passions but secrets tend to have them not trusting each other and that leads to many misunderstandings.

I had a hard time putting this book down when I was needed elsewhere, the story just sucks you in from beginning to end. I definitely look forward to reading more of Lori Ann Bailey's books, her style of writing is exactly what I look for in a historical romance.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I am always up for a feisty heroine, and Maggie does not disappoint. This is my first story by Lori Ann Bailey, and it will not be my last. I can't wait for the second on in this series. Now, on to the book.

Maggie is being forced by her family to marry truly awful man, who has already told her how he will break her spirit and make her his. She told her father and brothers over and over again, but they just brushed her off. She sees a final opportunity to escape while the men are all talking with the priest. Dressed as a boy she makes a break for it.

Lachlan is a strong laird of a mighty clan, and is working on bringing the clans together when he discovers a trader about the clans. There is a fight on a journey home, and this is where he meets Maggie. He has never wanted to marry, but slowly they are finding themselves drawn to each other.

If you are looking for a great read, with a HEA, this book will not disappoint.

Highland Deception is the first book in Lori Ann Bailey's historical romance series Highland Pride. In her debut novel there is bravery, honor, love, and betrayal. It's a story of discovering how to navigate through family expectations, fighting for what's right and standing up for those you love.

Margaret Murray is running from what she considers to be a life-sentence, an arranged marriage to a man she doesn't love.

Lachlan Cameron is a laird who is honest and good but wont' tolerate deception and dishonor to him or his clan.
Take a journey to the highlands in this slow-burn romance that kept me captivated the entire time. I didn't want it to end and lucky for you dear readers there are four books so far in this series!

I love Highland Deception by Lori Ann Bailey. The characters and dialogue are perfect and the vivid descriptions of the surroundings and the plot are magnificent and it sucks me into the story.

I really enjoyed Maggie and Lachlan's story!

I loved Maggie!! She has to keep her secrets, but in doing so she may lose the man she has grown to love. I liked Lachlan too. I loved watching the love grow between these two characters!

A great start to a new series!!

I really wanted to give this book more of a rating but I couldn't. The dialogue became annoying and hard to read. While I loved the Scottish speaking it became annoying to read it added into the dialogue itself. I found it really hard to keep pushing which upset me because I loved the plotline.
I'm a huge historical romance reader and love when things are done the right way, eg. Using the right names and saying things the right way. This book let me down in that way. It was like the author just spelt out what she thought and how she thought they would say it. Research would have gone a very long way.
