The book description sounded sinister and action packed. With that being said, I have never read a novel by this author. The writing style is not to my taste. I found it too descriptive with the surroundings and events, rather than getting to the story. For me, it was distracting from the story and made it hard to enjoy. This just wasn’t my thing. Not bad , just not my thing.
This was definitely a mediocre thriller at best. It has all the good elements expected of a great book, I would recommend it for people just starting this genre, but not for those (like me) who have read millions of them. It was absolutely predictable and boring at points where I knew what was going to happen. This one was a nice refresher from the alternative POVs so common on books similar to this, so I'll give it that, but overall, it wasn't anything memorable.
I enjoyed the writing style of this book. Most thrillers lately have alternating points of view and this was a refreshing difference with only one perspective the whole time. I thought the plot was clever and somewhat suspenseful as well. Moving between memory loss and finding truth kept you trying to piece together what was happening.
Our main character Kyra has a 4-year blank period in her memory after a head injury she received diving. While she spends time on a deserted island she starts to piece together the past and the feeling that something just isn’t right.
The only reason that I didn’t rate this as a five-star is that I guessed the ending before I finished. I also thought it was just an average read. Nothing mind-blowing. Nothing I thought everyone HAS to read but it did suck me in and I found it enjoyable.
Thank you, NetGalley for the privilege of receiving an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The plot was a bit predictable at times, and the synopsis made it sound as if the other inhabitants of Mystic Island were in on the deception. I still enjoyed the book and the mystery of the lookalike in the paintings added a surprising twist.
Our patrons love a good psychological thriller. This novel has a lot of good points to it but it was a bit weak. I think that this author has a lot of potential. I found it about a B level book. Thanks so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for giving me access to this book.
This book presents a very different challenge, compared to the typical mystery novel. It’s not just a matter of identifying culprits; the bigger challenge is uncovering the crime. There’s no dead body in the parlor. Even if you figure out who did it, I doubt that you will see what was done until the final shocking revelation.
The author also offers us a rich load of often delightful and always informative material on amnesia, marine biology, Pacific Northwest climate and geography, and internet vulnerabilities. A very good read.
A.J. Banner's compact domestic thrillers are carefully plotted to bring the maximum gasp. The Twilight Wife is perfect for mystery and psychological thriller fans.
The Twilight Wife was a great psychological mystery, very suspenseful! I enjoyed the way that everything was a mystery to the main character as well as to the reader. The story is about Kyra, who is a marine biologist. Kyra suffers from memory loss from a diving accident she was in. She can’t remember the recent past years. The story starts with Kyra living with her husband Jacob on a remote island. They are spending some time at their house there in the hopes that the seclusion will help Kyra rest and recover. Kyra starts remembering bits and pieces as the days go by. The memories are confusing to Kyra at first. But slowly, her old life comes back to her and what she remembers will shock her!
Interesting plot, steal your best friends wife because she looks like your mother, rig diving gear to kill her husband and give her a brain injury to allow remapping of memories, gaslight the ever loving living hell out of her, reroute and remap the internet, photoshop years of history, including moving her home, wedding gown etc, oh yes impersonate her best friend...and manage a major computer company all the time being charming, handsome and a millionaire. Oh i forgot a great cook and housekeeper! Why is she complaining right?
A fast paced read with interesting characters...and I only thought people wrote about femme fatale crazy girls, so refreshing to read about a “gone man” or the new “man on a train”! So if you want something to entertain you for a few hours, this may be the book for you! Enjoyable, interesting, and entertaining! I could probably give this book four stars but it was too predictable and i had it figured out right down to his mother’s affair with Doug Ingram....minus two stars.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.
Kyra Winthrop has lost parts of her memory since her diving accident with her husband Jacob. She can remember childhood memories but has difficulty remembering the last four years of her life. As she recovers with her husband on Mystic Island, she starts to question pieces of her past. Kyra slowly starts to remember small conversations and places she has been. Wanting to piece things together she does her research finding clues along the way that help her remember her past.
This book kept me up at night turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. I could not predict what was going to happen next and was surprised in a few places. This book was full of mystery for me and some suspense too! I really enjoyed reading this book and will recommend it to my friends.
I received this arc from Touchstone Books in exchange for my honest review and this is my honest review of The Twilight Wife.
I absolutely loved THE TWILIGHT WIFE and am honored to have been able to read and review. It is such a phenomenal read and has amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just couldn't get enough of it and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend that you read it.
Wow...I thought that this was such an amazing read! I have really been struggling with reading lately and I hope this was what I needed to take me out of my slump!
I absolutely loved Banner's "The Good Neighbor" and "The Twilight Wife" was no different. I am very thankful and fortunate that she allowed me to read this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.
Banner has such wonderful storytelling abilities. She knows how to pull you in, keep you until the very last moment! All too often books drag on or really feel like they are not getting to the point, but I have never felt that way when reading her books!
The narrator seemed to be a perfect fit for the main character and kept me entertained and listening throughout!
I can't wait to see what Banner comes out with next!

WHY DIDN'T I READ THIS SOONER? This book had me turning the pages so quickly. Memory loss is such a interesting topic to read about. I couldn't imagine losing years of your own life and just assuming other's are telling the truth about your life. These characters were so well written which made it a quick read. I would definitely recommend this book.
This took me forever to finish i just couldn't get into it. Been there read that. All I can say was ugh!! Perfect husband helping wife with memory lost when all along you know the husband did it. It's always the husband.
My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book!! It was a quick enjoyable read!! Would highly recommend!
The Twilight Wife had me hooked early on and kept me up late at night until I finished the last page. When Kyra Winthrop finds herself recovering from a diving accident that has left her with a rare form of memory loss, she naturally relies on her devoted husband Jacob to help her fill in the missing details of her life. So with such an obviously loving husband, why does she start having memories of another man? Why don't the details that Jacob shares with her seem true? What happened to her before the accident? As Kyra starts to remember, life as she has grown to know it, isn't at all what it seems. A.J. Banner masterfully created a gripping psychological thriller, with such authentic details that you will feel as if you are on the island right along with Kyra.
This was an absolutely fantastic story that kept me guessing until the end. The scene setting was impeccable and made me feel like I was in the Pacific Northwest. Highly recommended.
The Twilight Wife was an edge of my seat thriller! I didn't see the twist coming!
This book was a really good read! I was confused at first but it did show how the main character was going through her memory loss and having to connect the dots within her brief flashes of memory. I hope I get to see more books by A. J. Banner because she knows how to psychological thriller pretty well!
