You'd think I would have had enough WW2 reading with the Cybils. Turns out I have a little more left in me. After all, I feel like I'm qualified to judge the time period now anyway.
This book is a collection of biographical stories of different children who left on the kinder transport to live in the United Kingdom after Hitler seized power in Germany. Each story is slightly different, but all contain the same heartwrenching goodbyes as the children left their parents whom they often never saw again. Written for older elementary students up to middle grades the writing is compelling and accessible for this age group. Reading these kinds of histories that children like them actually experienced is so important to understanding history and not repeating it. I'm glad that the digital copy I read included the photos, timelines, and glossary of the finished book. Putting faces to the names was invaluable in connecting with the stories.
