It’s My Party, Die If You Want To is the first in the series. By no fault of Vickie Fee, I always struggle with the first in a series. If it’s bad, you’re wondering why you invested the time, BUT if it’s good, you’re sad you’ll have to wait for the sequel. Vickie Fee did just that for me. I finished the book and I’m already wishing I could pick up the next.
The characters in this book feel real. Unlike many cozy mysteries, I found the character so relatable that they felt like friends by the end of the book. They are living normal lives with real world problems when their day to day is disrupted even further by a murder. Best of all, the mystery keeps you guessing until the end.
If you’re looking for a fun read with two lead female characters, this is it! Liv and Di are great! I can’t wait to see where the series goes!
Dixie Tennessee is the cute southern town where Liv McKay is a party planner. She has several events scheduled, and is working hard to get things done when she and her best friend, Di, stumble upon a dead body in the cemetery. It's Your Party, Die If You Want To is the second in the Liv and Di in Dixie Mystery series, and, just like the other novels in the series, is delightful. The murder victim is a not-very-well-liked diva, Morgan Robison, who like to party, especially with other women’s husbands. Liv and Di set out to investigate and find that there are plenty of angry wives and cheating husbands that may be viable suspects.
Vickie Fee has captured the southern charm of Tennessee in this novel, and makes it fun. Her characters are actually believable, and are quite well-developed. They seem like real people from a small southern town, and are likeable in spite of the fact that one might be a murderer. Because this is a cozy, it doesn’t contain graphic sex, language, or violence, so everyone can enjoy it. There are times where the suspense builds, and it isn’t until the very end that readers find out who the murderer actually is. Of course, readers will be surprised, which is one of the aspects of a good cozy. Liv and Di are good amateur sleuths, and are a bit naïve as to the danger they could be in.
Nevertheless, this is a fun, fast read and readers will find they want to pick up all of the books in the series.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I really enjoy this series. In this one it is Halloween in Dixie, Tennessee and Liv is planning an engagement party and a Halloween Fund Raising Party. She also has a weekend retreat with Dixie Business Women. The featured speaker is Dixie native Lucinda, television ghost hunter. When local mean girl is murdered at the retreat Liv and Di set out to solve the murder. There is a lot going on in this book. I really like the characters, humor, relationships and the small town setting. The mystery was good and there are enough suspects to make it interesting. This is a fun Fall cozy. Enjoy
Being a Southern girl, these party planning cozy always make me feel right at home, plus centered around Halloween makes this an A+ novel. For those who love cozies, I highly recommend.
While I love the characters in this book, it seemed to tae on a slower pace than the last book. I didn't immediately get sucked into the book like I did last time. However once I did get about halfway through I couldn't put it down to see just how it was going to end!
