After five years on his own running away from the CIA which had at one time had a Terminate order on him, Court Gentry is back on the inside of the CIA. Regrets - he’s got a few - especially after his first mission brings out a pair of Chinese assassins who try to take him down in Hong Kong. Normally the Chinese prefer to stay eyes-only on foreign agents. So why are they on such high alert?

Right from the get-go, Court has the feeling that he doesn’t have the ‘whole story’ regarding the mission he’s been sent on. When he discovers that his old friend and former handler, Donald Fitzroy is being held hostage by the Chinese, Court is forced to make a deal where by he can try to save Fitzroy’s life and still complete discover the whereabouts of his CIA target, a highly capable Chinese hacker called Fan Jing. The problem the CIA wants Fan working for him and the Chinese want Fan DEAD!However, there are more complications than one can shake a stick at because everyone one wants a piece of Fan including the Russians, the Vietnamese, the Thai drug cartel, and even Taiwan.

*** Mark Greaney has been a favorite author of mine since I first discovered him with his debut novel of the Gray Man and each successive book in this series has just gotten better and better. With so many people all looking to find and capture Court’s quarry the action never stops or lets up. It’s one dangerous adventure after another. However, this is the first time I have actually seen Court become somewhat involved with another agent and it makes for questions as to maybe - Court has found a partner?

Enough said! All I can say is Mark Greaney continues to deliver and I am just waiting for someone in Hollywood to pick up this book series and realize what a fabulous TV or Movie series this could be made into! Move over Jason Bourne - there is definitely a new kid on the block!!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Another black ops thriller featuring the Gray Man. I would have thoroughly enjoyed this book even if I had never read others in this series. Competing groups of bad guys make this a true thriller. The characters are depicted in strong shades of black and white, giving a comic book feel to proceedings. Definitely read this for the fun and action, not for an intense character study. The ending was surprising as the survivors come together. The narrative flows well, and keeps the reader engrossed. I am looking forward to more.

Heck I am a "Gray Man" fan and Court Gentry is my kind of hero. With that said, #6, seemed to have too many words, too many characters and while the end had some twists the middle really gave me the blahs. Buy it yes, but the previous ones are better.

I enjoy the Gray Man series. It has all the ingredients: espionage, suspense, action, and a dynamic protagonist. However, this particular book in the series is my least favorite. The plot, while interesting, bogged down and became repetitive. The complex story line held my interest, but the protracted events did not. Very good denouement. I received a copy of this book through netgalley.

No one currently writing doe the large scale thriller better than Greaney. Period. His Gray man books are reliable, taking the reader all around the world with a thrill a minute story. This installment is no different. Settle down for escapist reading of the highest caliber. Reccommended.

This was a really excellent novel with a complex plot, very well developed characters and lots and lots of action. But I only gave it four stars because I found it to have way too much description that got in the way, in my opinion, of what was happening. Too much time was spent with secondary characters and those who were merely window dressing for the leads. If you can get past that, this is a really superlative book. Thanks to Net Galley and Berkley for an ARC for an honest review.

Court Gentry may be the baddest man on the planet. The CIA turned on him and tried to take him out. He managed to elude them for years. This is the second book detailing his return. He now has an unsteady peace with the CIA and is sent on a mission to Hong Kong.

Lots of twists and turns in the story. Bad guys doing bad things and good guys having to also do bad things to try to stop them from doing worse things.

I enjoyed the story. Know that there is a good bit of language and a lot of violence.

Mark Greaney has only recently become one of my favorite authors. That happened with the previous novel in the Gray Man series, "Back Blast".
This follow-up is as intense, as breathtaking, and well-plotted as Greaney's fans could want. The Gray Man, Court Gentry, is a fantastic hero who gets cheated, beaten up, shot at, and taken advantage of along the way, but in my book, that is much to be prefered than the infallible, know-all, unbeatable hero, who is always ten steps ahead of his opponents. Such characters - and the authors behind them - rarely remain on my reading list for long.
Most of the book takes place in changing Asian settings (Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Thailand, mostly), and at times Greaney's thorough research in those areas wore me somewhat down with too many local-color details, such as tongue-twisting names of streets or areas.
This book shows more emotional sides of the Gray Man than I recall from "Back Blast", but Greaney keeps it at a bearable and fitting level, so it never becomes too much or takes too much of the momentum out of the story.
Mark Greaney had me hooked from cover to cover and once again proved to me that the Gray Man is terrific, action-packed entertainment that should be on the reading lists of all fans of the genre (international espionage/action thriller).

I’m not sure where I’ve been lately in the black ops new releases but I definitely missed this author. Gunmetal Gray is book six in the Gray Man series and I am definitely going to correct that oversight immediately.

Set mainly in Hong Kong and China, this book is the story of a CIA operative, known as Gray Man, and a job he undertakes. We get to tag along on a journey through many twists and heart pounding moments as the story evolves.

The author knows how to pour on the tension and build up the anticipation so that you become part of the action. A complex story that involves plenty of fast paced exchanges, mounting body count issues, along with never knowing who to trust, other than no one.

I was really happy that this is a standalone read as I love not missing anything. But be that as it may, I am definitely excited to experience this awesome author. I love knowing there is someone who can tell a great story that I can sink my teeth into for a day or two and get a thrilling, captivating story that leaves you plenty of anticipation for the next one to come and the ones I have missed!

This author is going to be on my must-read list for my black ops addiction. You need to check this book and Mark Greaney out if you like spy thrillers!

[from my review at MenReadingBooks.com]
"This is the 2nd by Mark Greaney reviewed here at MRB, the first being #5 in the series, Back Blast reviewed by West Coast Don about a year ago. Gunmetal Gray is the 6th Gray Man book. Highly entertaining, very readable, a character in Gentry that we can root for, and far too many plot twists to reveal. Greaney gives we newbies enough glimpses into Gray's past to entice us to go back to the 1st book (The Gray Man) and work through the series. Recent reviews here at MRB have, rightly or wrongly, entered into a series well past the first book, forcing us to decide to stay on this path of almost randomly selected new releases or go back to the beginning. I really think this is one I'll try to find #1 and start moving forward. Both WCD and I liked Gentry. Fun stuff. See you soon, Violator."
