A great addition to the Mercy Thompson books. I greatly enjoyed the Mercy goes to Europe book. The book had plot twists I didn't see coming and a lively romp through Europe. I enjoy that Mercy solves her own problems, but still manages to get into even more trouble. I will definitely recommend this title. I loved the timeline - and Mercy's notes at the top of the page. Lively, great action scenes, and a great sense of humor.
Another great Mercy novel from Ms. Briggs! My biggest complaint, and this is just me as a reader, is that there were too many points where the action got too slow and I would glaze over some pages.. I loved the differing POVs--going back and forth between Adam and Mercy. While this did create overlap, it was cool to see both sides. I very much appreciated the "warning" at the beginning to pay attention to Mercy's "thoughts" at the beginning of each chapter. Those were helpful in keeping the timeline correct :).

Im delighted that I can say Mercy Thompson NEVER disappoints!
As Coyote's daughter, she's always finding herself in a chaos and pivotal situations that could be world-ending. Silence Fallen, book 10 in the series, is no different but it reads no less exciting because new characters and old stories from old characters are intertwined and brought to life in ways that feel real to me. Mercy, Adam, Stephan, Marsilia, Honey, Bran, and all the rest feel like real people and their world feels like it's the same as mine, just beyond my human senses lol. And I love that!
So please bring on more Coyote and Mercy, Mrs Briggs! I can't get enough.

Another action packed story from Patricia Briggs that will leave you wanting more.
I really enjoyed following Mercy's story. Right off the bat, she is in an accident that nearly kills her. She's only in that accident because someone wants to kidnap her. Her situation seems to degrade quickly, leaving her in a strange land with no allies and no resources.
We also follow the story of Mercy's mate Adam as he desperately tries to find his love. I really feel for Adam. Briggs has painted a gripping picture of how devastating and frantic it can feel to loose someone you love. Adam searches for Mercy, but at the same time he has to play the diplomat to foreign powers. Its very intense.
The plot is intricate, head spinning at times, but its easy to pick up the pieces again in the next chapter. There were a few characters that didn't really seem to be needed, but were still awesome in their own way. The writing was great and colorful, just what you would expect in a New York Times best selling author.
I enjoyed this story and I can't wait to read more from Patricia Briggs. I gave Silence Fallen three stars, only because there was so much going on that it almost felt like two totally separate stories.
This is a fabulous book. Patricia Briggs does it again. In this book, Mercy and Adam spent much of it apart, but their love and commitment shine through. There is humor, tension and adventure in this story. A wonderful addition to the series. Highly recommended.
4.5! This was fabulous! A great entry in Briggs' Mercy Thompson series!
We've seen Mercy fight -- for her friends, for herself, for what needs doing and is worth defending. We've seen her in any number of tough situations, but this is the first time that she's faced terrible danger for days on end without real assistance (no Pack, no friendly fae, no bond with Adam), without being in territory she understands ... without even being in her cultural comfort zone. And, once again, she's shown her mettle. Even scared and alone and out of her depth she's still as clever and resourceful as we've ever seen her.
When Adam comes after her, as we all knew he would, his emotions have driven him a little over the top. It was good to see him vulnerable without losing his edge.
All in all, I loved this! As always it was good to visit Mercy and company and I look forward to doing it again!
There is no such thing as a bad Mercy Thompson book and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't one of my favourites in the series.
I was so glad to get back to Mercy and Adam. Especially since the last book were he finally stood up for her in the pack and I was curious to see how it will continue.
This book is a bit different that the previous books, for one we get dual POV (Mercy and Adam) and it has (mostly) two timelines. But it is well narrated (by Mercy) that it is super easy to follow. Also most of the book takes away from home and with that a big part of the pack,
Mercy is taken really early on in the book and but it is not really obvious at forest in how much danger she really is. And as we know Mercy she also finds some trouble. She does escape fairly quickly in true Mercy fashion. Kicking butt and taking names, but that does not mean she is out of danger. Oh no, there are just different kind of dangers on top of her running from the powerful vampire Iacopo/Jacob. For one she has nothing, not even clothes and has to roam in a strange werewolf territory. Mercy gets herself in quite the few difficult situations along the way. But she also meets a few new people and some allies along the way. We also learn more about her and her heritage as a walker. Something is happening to her powers. She meets a golem and a few ghost on her long and curling journey to run from Jacob and to reunite with Adam and the pack.
One think we learn is just how far the reach of Marrok and his “daughter” really goes.
Adam. I love Adam in this book. Just everything about him or the way he handles things in this book. Even as he struggles with his wolf to keep control and not just kill everyone. We also see how strong their bond really is.
He works with Elizaveta , the vampires and some goblins to rescue Mercy.
He also takes along Honey, who was such a great and shining star in this book. I really love her and also feel for her sometimes as she still mourns Peter.
There are some really scary things happening to Adam as well and it was great to see him handle it. It was also great to see him work so close with Stefan and Marsilia.
I really enjoyed seeing the nicer site of Marsilia and we learn a little about her as well.
I also enjoyed Larry the goblin and to learn a little more about them and I really hope to see more of Larry and his crew…… the same goes for Matt Smith (not the doctor)a werewolf that travels with Adam.
Iacopo/Jacob, I don’t think it is the last time we hear about him as the book ends. But that is all I can say for now to not give anything away.
Overall. I LOVED this book and I hardly put it down and now I ant wait to see how things continue. While it was neat those them off so far all over Europe and away from the pack , I cant wait to see them back home to see them as a family and with the pack . Plus, I really want to know how it all will work out with the Marrok, since they are still cut off from him.
I really have to give this book 5★ because it was just that great.
I have loved Patricia Briggs and her Mercy Thompson novels for years and years and this one, while different I still loved. Mercy finds herself in trouble yet again and from the first chapter, she finds herself separated from her mate and pack, in a strange land and no way to contact anyone. This book was very Mercy heavy, even when the parts that were tittled Adam, were still Mercy heavy. Patricia Briggs has a way of writing something that is factual and yet also fantasy and you are left either googling or wondering how far off the mark she truly is in theses books and Silence Fallen is no exception,. There were some twists and turns that I didn't expect and one until the very end that made me want to go back and reread it all.
The only thing that kept me from giving this 5 amazing stars were the facts that there were a lot of repetition, enough to the point i wanted to shout 'We get it already' as well as I love, love, love Adam and Mercy together as a couple fighting evil and all things bad and they were separated the entire book, like the entire thing. It made the reunion that much more, but comon!
All in all, this was still a great read that had me sucked in from the very first to the very last word.
I am a little conflicted. I am a huge Mercy fan, I have read all the books in this series and definitely have favorites. This book was not one of them. It was difficult to follow, not because of the way the book was narrated, but the way it was written. The story was difficult to follow, all the Jacob nuances garbled together in twisty plot twists that involved multiple characters all intertwined somehow. I didn't like it. The only saving grace is that i was completely fooled by the submissive wolf! At no point did I ever think that was Bran. That was a bright spot in the book. I won't give up on these books though. I've enjoyed them too much.
This book was absolutely fantastic! I was desperately wanting to read this book, and so I read it the day that I was approved. So glad that I did, because it was so epic and awesome! And a bit not glad, because now I have to wait for the next book, and that wait is going to be pure evil!
This is the second book in the Mercy Thompson series where it doesn't take place primarily in or around Tri-Cities. It is the first book to take place outside of the US (Underhill is a whole 'nother situation entirely) so yeah, while also getting to explore some new places and supernaturals, we also had a limited number of the usual cast, and a bunch of new members! Which also helped us learn more about these characters, like some of Zach's story!
This book had layers upon layers of plans and plots and twists! Like the safe harbor that Mercy found. Or when Mercy was kidnapped in the first place. Mostly, I think, because of the ages of these characters, but also just who they were! And yeah, there were some amazing twists and clever thoughts and plans!
I loved the way that this book was told-narrated by Mercy and Adam, who were separated, and then the timelines of their stories didn't sync up, but there were notes from Mercy to help understand what had gone on somewhere compared to what was happening at the same time in a different place but we were just learning about it now. Yeah, that was pretty awesome!
This book was so awesome and wonderful, and I can't wait for the next Mercy book, and the next Alpha and Omega book!
When Moon Called, the first book in Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series, came out in 2006, I was in a paranormal reading slump. The triumvirate of Anita, Richard, and Jean Claude was no more, and our favorite mercenary Kate Daniels had yet to make her mark on a futuristic Atlanta. Imagine my surprise and delight then, when into this barren paranormal landscape struts Mercedes Thompson, a scrappy little coyote shapeshifter who can hold her own against the biggest and baddest werewolves. I was hooked immediately.
Fast forward a decade, and I am still hooked. Silence Fallen, the series' tenth installment, is another fast-paced action-thriller that expands upon the universe Ms. Briggs has painstakingly built over the course of nine books. Due to some pacing and narrative issues, it is not the best book in the series but it is nevertheless an enjoyable read that will keep me coming back for more. Because Silence Fallen is part of a long-running series, this review contains spoilers for books 1-9. You have been warned.
Silence Fallen starts with a kidnapping. Mercedes Thompson Hauptman, daughter of Coyote (Navajo god of chaos) and wife of alpha werewolf Adam Hauptman, is on her way home from a convenience store when her SUV is hit by a semi-truck. The impact of the collision knocks her out cold; and when she regains consciousness, Mercy finds herself the unwilling guest of Iacopo Bonarata, leader of the European vampires and one-time lover of Marsilia, Mistress of the Tri-Cities seethe. Why Bonarata chose to kidnap her is not immediately made clear, but Mercy figures that’s a question she can ponder some other time. Shifting into her coyote form, Mercy escapes from her captor and hops into the luggage compartment of a bus. It isn't until hours later, after the bus has stopped and Mercy finally has a chance to get her bearings that Mercy realizes she's not in the Tri-Cities anymore. She is in Italy – alone, broke, and hunted by a powerful vampire.
Meanwhile, back home in the Tri-Cities, Adam is holding a council of war with Marsilia and Stefan. Bonarata has emailed Marsilia to claim responsibility for Mercy’s abduction. And based on clues gleaned through Bonarata’s communication, the group agrees that Bonarata’s actions are most likely motivated by the coalition the Tri-Cities supernatural powers seemingly formed during the events in Fire Touched, the previous book in the series. Therefore, Adam decides that the best course of action is for him to visit Milan with a party that is a fair representation of this so-called alliance – a party that includes werewolves, vampires, goblins, and even a witch. The purpose of their trip will be two-fold. One, to rescue Mercy. Two, to find out what Bonarata wants and, if necessary, broker an agreement that will prevent the bloodshed of dozens of non-human denizens from both sides of the pond.
This book started out a little slow for me. Unlike the previous books in the series, where we received only Mercy’s view point, the chapters in Silence Fallen alternate between Mercy’s and Adam’s points of view. While I liked that this method of storytelling allows us to get inside both of our protagonists’ heads, a lot of what we learn feels repetitive. In Fire Touched, we saw Adam struggle between his need to protect Mercy and trusting her to fight her own battles. In Silence Fallen, we see Adam face the same struggle when he must decide between rushing to his wife’s side or staying in Milan to finish his negotiation with Bonarata. In between Adam thinking about how worried he is for Mercy and Mercy missing Adam, there are endless discussions about why Mercy is the most powerful person in the Tri-Cities, and numerous conversations about why Bonarata kidnapped her. Try as I might, I just couldn’t quite shake off this “been there, done that” feeling during the first half of the book.
Once I got past the slow beginning, however, the plot unfolds at breakneck speed in two separate threads. In Prague, Mercy seeks sanctuary with Libor, the alpha werewolf of the Vltava pack, and runs afoul of a golem and a new breed of scary monster. In Milan, Adam and his entourage try to navigate through the intricate minefield of interspecies politics and become enmeshed in a coup against Bonarata. There are twists and turns aplenty to keep the reader engrossed. And of course, this being a Mercy Thompson novel, the two threads and other subplots introduced throughout the story all come together nicely at the end to form a rousing conclusion.
Overall, Silence Fallen proved to be a mixed bag. I enjoyed the action, but found the character- driven moments to be a rehashing of ground we have covered before. On the plus side, by setting the book in Europe, the author is able to introduce a whole new group of interesting secondary characters. An alpha werewolf that owns a bakery? A ruthless master vampire with a weakness for female werewolves? Other than Bonarata, we aren’t given a lot of information on these characters. But they can all potentially be drawn upon to expand the “mercyverse” even more. And for that tantalizing possibility alone, I will remain a loyal fan of the series and be the first in line to purchase the next book, whenever it should happen to come out.
I really enjoyed the change of scenery and presence of characters I haven't seen in a while. This book showed there's still plenty of story to tell in the Mercyverse, and I'm excited to see what comes next, whether it's with Adam and Mercy or with Charles and Anna.
