This was such an intense ride from the start till finish. Marnie Somerville, a hacker gone right, is on the run after being shot by one of her boss’s henchmen when she tried to break into his office. And she runs straight to the former Detective Dane MacLain’s cottage. Marnie has been “stalking” Dane for a while now. A first it was for her work, where she gathers intel on the guys she is asked to for the security company she works for. But she develops a crush on Dane, when she realises that he isn’t a bad guy but a good one who is going through some really really bad times.

Dane on the other hand, is on the quest to find justice for his estranged wife’s murder, even though a man confessed, but he knows that something isn’t right with his confession. What he doesn’t know is that the woman whose life he saved has all the answers he needs.

At the start of the book, I felt disjointed; there was a lot of information that was thrown at me, and it felt that I already should have been known the information beforehand (I went in, thinking that this was a standalone.); hence it felt a lot more chaotic at the start and it took more time acclimate to the situation at hand, but when I did? I adored the kind of connection Dane and Marnie had with each other.

Marnie is a woman who doesn’t like any entanglements of the “normal” kind, for she believes that she isn’t suited for the normal life and that is why she doesn’t understand the attraction Dane has for her. It was so much fun to see her try and deny her connection to Dane and his family; for even when she did, she just couldn’t resist the hold they had on her.

Dane, on the other hand, is more of a black and white kind of guy, even if he has been living in the grey for a while now. And thus, even he doesn’t understand his attraction to Marnie. In fact, he is suspicious of her for quite some time, even if they are in an uneasy partnership.

This was quite a complex plot to write, with all the secondary characters appearing in this book, and a few snags (for me!), the author did quite a wonderful job of tying almost all the loose ends for her readers. This is also one of those books that you need to read, for me even posting a single inference in this review could spoil it for you!

But this could have been an amazing romance if it didn’t feel as if I was on a rollercoaster – I love rollercoasters, but what I love more than anything is the build up to the suspense!

I read this book in one sitting – and I adored it, even with its flaws are what makes one interesting and this author was definitely interesting!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am just gonna go and stalk her on goodreads :D
