I started this book with the hopes of it being a I can't put this down type of book, however that was not the case.
I felt that it was your usual girl starting over meet the new guy and thing are fine. Then something happens and she leaves, only to come back. Yes, this works for most books and yes there were many other things going on in this book as the main male character was a "nightwalker" the church was involved. There was suspense and a plot. It just didn't work for me. I found myself daydreaming more than reading.

Who doesn’t love the whole Dracula love story? The vampire who waits for centuries for the woman he loved and lost? Well, I for one adore it and Night Walker promised to be just that.
While the romance between our nightwalker Calisto and his love the reincarnated Kate was nice and I enjoyed it, I never completely got into the book.
The story goes back and forth between their first romance and the present time. He has been haunted by the mistake that cost his love her life in a horrible way. When he finds her once again, he’s desperate to win her back and doesn’t want to scare her by showing what he really is.
Kate, for her part, was a very confused young woman. I’m not sure confused is the right word here, but her actions, to me, were mind-boggling. She finds the man she’s going to marry cheating on her, so she ups and leaves her job and goes back home where the estate of her late parents is still waiting to be dealt with. In doing so she happens to cross paths with Calisto and she can’t deny the compelling attraction between them. But then things happen and she runs home, and thus starts the beginning of a back and forth pattern of these two coming together then splitting up. At one point I was so over the whole back and forth thing I was on the verge of just giving up on the whole story.
During all this, there’s this whole Fraternidad del Fuego Santo which happens to be Calisto’s old order who are set on keeping Calisto from making more nightwalkers. Only the last guy they send to watch him is a complete psycho. Bizarrely enough, I thought he was one of the best characters in the story, as he was consistently and totally wacko from start to finish.
After re-reading this I want to stress that I did actually like the story, it just had a couple of things that got on my nerves. I felt too much time was spent apart during the back and forth portion of the romance. I would have appreciated more time with them building their bond in the present. One of the things I appreciated most was how very sweet Callisto was with Kate. Ms. Kessler also introduced an interesting take on the whole vampire thing.
As a side note, while there were only a couple of occasions where the author used the past monks supposedly native language, the Spanish used was all wrong. There is one line that I couldn’t even grasp what the character was supposed to be saying and Spanish is my native language. I know this is a pet peeve of mine and it’ll probably not bother anyone else out there but I needed to mention it.
All in all, I can’t say this was my favorite story by Ms. Kessler, but there is action, sweet romance, some shocking moments with some steamy scenes.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
'Night Walker' by Lisa Kessler is the First Book in the New Series called "Night". This is the story of Calisto Terana and Kate Bradley.
Calisto and Kate over 200 years ago were in a love affair but he was a Priest and she ended up being murdered. Calisto became a Night Walker / Vampire to ensure that he meets Kate again when she is reborn. Now is that time. But she doesn't know him and she is still in danger. But their love will over come this as it did time.
