There was definitely an unsettling creepy vibe running through the book as you never knew who you could trust. I always find any story that is set in the woods equals something sinister is lurking behind the trees ready to jump out at any moment. Girl Number One is a good example of this as I felt a little uneasy anytime Ellie found herself in the woods.
I wouldn't say that I necessarily got attached to Ellie's character however I did like her attitude of facing things head on. It was interesting to see how Ellie reacts to everything that happens and also how she deals with things. I'm not saying I would do any of the things Ellie does but I can slightly understand her way of wanting to confront the past in order to find some peace.
I'm sure most readers like to play detective and I find it's half the fun of reading a thriller or crime story. Throughout the book I was trying to pick up clues and see if I could figure out who the killer was. Jane Holland has created a story that for the most part kept my interest after all I had to find out if my prediction was right.
There were a few tense parts and the odd surprise as the story built up to the conclusion. How will it all end though?
Tense at times with an intriguing story!
Four stars from me!
Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Girl Number one is an intriguing dark psychological thriller. It is entertaining and easy to read. it kept me on my toes and I was never sure what would happen next. I gave it 3 stars because it did slow down a bit in the middle, but overall a pretty good read.

Firstly, why don't they have cell phone service anywhere in this book? Ok, I feel better now.
I knew I was reading a mystery, but didn't realize there was a pseudo love story intertwined as well. I didn't mind though, it broke up the book in an unexpected way.
Although I foresaw the "who dun it," I will admit I had about 5 guesses throughout. So well done by the author!
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy of this book!

This is a brilliant thriller. Plenty of murders and a fast paced storyline. Eleanor's mother was murdered and Eleanor was there when it happened, when she was six years old. 20 years later Eleanor goes for a run back to the murder site in the local woods. She finds a naked woman's body in the exact same spot that her mother was killed. On the woman's forehead is the number 3. When Eleanor arrives later with the police, the body is gone. Who is messing with Eleanor? Can she stay ahead of the killer's game and remember who her mother's killer is?

While this book has a strong premise and it seemed really interesting in the beginning, I found that as the story got underway, I began to lose interest. The book had moments that kept me reading, but for a large majority of the time I felt like I was just going through the motions, not really caring what happened.
Whilst some people might find this intriguing and really love it, I thought it was just okay. The author's writing style is good, but the book just didn't live up to the blurb.
