Dreamshores by Mike Robinson was intriguing to me because I love stranded/survival stories, and throwing monsters in to it makes it even more appealing. I loved the imagination and the detail, and found the story to be whimsical instead of scary. The focus was definitely more on descriptions than action, so things moved slower than I would have liked, but that's ok. It was still a fun book that I think could serve as a crossover title, with appeal to both young adults and adults.
Lover of Jurassic Park and old fashioned B movies will want to give this fun tale a read. It abounds with monsters, dinosaurs, and beasts of fanasty and sci-fi, adding in a heroine with super powers, a myerious island, and the idea that we all have a destiny awaiting us. Nicely written!!
I really enjoyed the celebration of creativity and "genuineness" in this book. Claymation is so much more "real" than CGI, and then of course this book takes the "realness" of creativity to a whole new level. The book could have been complete without the epilogue, though -- I really didn't want to know what happened afterwards.
