Had a lot of fun Reading the graphic novel! Full of brash characters, all with a lot of rough and tumble. I now have started watching the series, bc of this novel. If you like the wild West with a modern flare...oh and throw in demons, fights, legends, and lore.. Woo hoo!!!
I really enjoyed the opportunity to read Wynonna Earp Volume 1: Homecoming by Beau Smith. I am always glad for female comic book characters that kick butt. The idea of turning the Western world of Wyatt Earp into a paranormal story was intriguing to me. I found the story to be engaging and I like Wynonna's character, even though she is prickly and rough around the edges. This graphic novel inspired me to check out the TV Show that was made after it and I'm enjoying both the graphic novels and the show. I hope for more adventures in both mediums. Wynonna and her crew are an interesting group.
Since I was a big fan of the show, I couldn’t wait to read the comic as well. Pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it! I’m a big fan of the characters, and I can’t wait to read more.
Fantastic companion to the t.v. show a little difficult to read on the tablet so I recommend buying a physical copy instead
Funny and just the right amount of dark i really enjoyed it
I love the TV show on multiple levels, but this TPB was nowhere near being the TV series.
It had all the same characters, Dolls, John Henry, Wynonna. But its soul was different, not to mention it took all these things from the show and messed with them in weird, weird ways.
I'm unsure if perhaps the comic came first or something?
The one thing that I did really like about the TPB was the character of Valdez. She was just the right combination of kick butt warrior princess (Mayan in this case) and humorous woman too.
Unfortuantely, overall it was a bummer of a TPB.
I got this ARC through Netgalley on behalf of IDW Publishing.
I started reading the Wynonna Earp after falling in love with the TV show and I found the earlier runs to be amusing if a little shallow. This new run is more in line with the TV show in that characters that were introduced in the TV show that were not in the earlier comics are here and the humor is very similar and in my opinion the jokes land better. It seems Smith was able to reinvent his own stories in a way that I really enjoyed. The plot and even some of the character development happens differently in this volume than it did on the show so even though there were the familiar characters and humor that I already know and love the stories are fresh. I found the art and design to be more inviting and engaging as well. If you enjoyed the show, you’ll enjoy this volume of comics and if you enjoy monster hunting stories with a good dollop of humor, you’ll definitely want to pick this up.
