The story was fantastic, ripe with suspense, horror and thrills. It would’ve been perfect ending before part 2. Then it lost me. Had a hard time finishing it.
It's difficult to put into words how I felt about this book. The beginning was so revolting that I wasn't sure if I would get anywhere near finishing it. On the other hand, I had to find out if Jessica was going to get away. I was also left wondering why on earth she did not try to attack the man who holds her captive. .
Then things take one turn after another and I am so struck by the masterful plot, I have to say it was rather well done.
Very raw and emotional, certainly beautifully told. The characters felt so real, and I was very moved by the writing.
I downloaded this to review for LJ and ended up not writing the review.
Looking for a creepy Christmas thriller? Look no further! This type of book is right up my alley, and unfortunately for me the genre is rather hard to find, so I jumped at the opportunity to devour this one.
I will sat you’re better off going into this one with limited knowledge. The synopsis, while out shopping on Christmas Eve, Jessica meets a handsome stranger. Sparks fly. He invites her home for a drink, and of course she gets more, so much more than that.
“To mark the twelve days of Christmas, he gives me a gift every day, each more horrible than the last. The twelfth day is getting closer. After that, there’ll be no more Christmas cheer for me. No mince pies, no carols. No way out.”
Yes, the plot is a bit unbelieveable, but it is still a fun and thrilling ride. There are a few twists and turns, even for those of us that normally see them coming. Woo-hoo!! The book is divided into two parts, and it does tend to go on a wee bit. Part one would have been a good stand alone, but part two pulls you right back in for more twist and turns, making this a top contender for a choice Christmas thrill read.
I definitely recommend it, 4 stars.
I could not get into this novel at all. I'm unsure if it was the author's writing style, the storyline, or both.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
I am not sure what it was about this book, I do not holiday books of any kind, I usually find them hokey. The blurb on this one caught my attention though and I found myself hoping I would get the chance to read the ARC. I was not disappointed. This book was full of twist and turns. The 12 days of Christmas will never be looked at the same way again, each gift was creepier than the one before it. I liked the way the book was divided into a before and after section.
This was a great, creepy read and truth be told, I think I would have bought this if not given the opportunity to read it, it was that good. Will definitely be looking into more of Tammy Cohen's books.
This started off really strong but then it just got so monotonous and slow. I really didn't care at some point in the middle of the book. There are a few surprises at the end of the book, but not enough to make me truly like it. I gave this 2 stars on goodreads.
