This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you
This was an okay story but I don't feel like Erin McCarthy did a good job of pulling in the reader. I didn't really connect with the either or the heroine.
I have been a fan of Erin McCarthy ever since reading a short story of hers in an anthology way back when. I've read several of her books since then, but hadn't read one in a while, so I jumped on the chance to review a new book from her. I can gladly say I was not disappointed. She still delivers the same humor, heart, and heat that I adored in her previous offerings. Shane and Avery had immediate chemistry, and I loved their individual backstories and how that affected their coupling. The Nashville music scene is also a fantastic setting and I'm excited to read the first book in the series and continue on with it. 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
The first sentence I was like oh jeez not for me, but the story is entertaining. Respectful manwhore and the innocent girl that’s a bit of a mess, but I ended up enjoying the read. It’s a fairly light story; a sweet story, it just needs more meat to it for it to really excel. The chemistry was great between Avery and Shane. Adorable couple with some steamy scenes. They both grow in this book, which is great to see them active in improving their lives. He’s the brother of the first book’s heroine and she has an unexpected connection that’s a mystery. The world in this book is the country music world, but it’s mainly the low key end of things. Overall, a lovely, lighthearted romance. I’d say more of a 3.5 rating, but I rounded up because I enjoyed the first book too.
Well written, super enjoyable yet the last 20% kinda let the book down.
It left me wishing I liked it more.
Still cute series and definitely would recommend it to lovers of the genre
Loved this second Nashville Nights love story. Lots of emotion being dealt with between various characters as well as internal dealings. Family dynamics vary in everyone’s life, it’s how we respond that counts. An excellent read.
DREAM MAKER - Erin McCarthy
#2 in the Nashville Nights romance series
GREAT CHARACTERS - 3.5 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Shane and Avery meet by chance in the middle of the night when Avery is dumped by her boyfriend in the street right in front of Shane. As they chat, their attraction grows. Not instalove, exactly, but still pretty quick. They quickly realize they have stronger feelings, but both are fighting them. Shane thinks of himself as a guy who plays the field, and resists commitment. Avery is warned off Shane because of his reputation, although she sees him as more than that.
Writing - 4.5 stars - As soon as I started the first page, I was drawn into the story. McCarthy creates great characters and a believable situation that pulls you into the environment.
Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story particularly shone for me. Shane is a great guy, although he's believable because he has strong feelings and he's relatable because he's confused and conflicted about his feelings. Avery is a small-town girl who has really never lived life too much, having had a long-term boyfriend and lived a sheltered life. But she has a tough core behind her naive sweetness, and I liked her spunk. She's also a talented songwriter, which gives her a strong identity, allowing her to be on a more level playing field even though Shane is already a very successful music producer.
Title - 4 stars - So Shane is the guy who can make dreams come true for professionals in the music business, such as songwriters like Avery. But he's also the guy she's attracted to. So if there's a happily ever after, he could also make her personal dreams come true. Good title.
Cover - 2.5 stars - This is kind of a weird cover. I get that it was meant to be typical romantic sexy guy abs, but the angle of the shot is awkward and feels uncomfortable.
Overview - 3.5 stars - This is a good story, with a believable plot and very appealing characters. Shane and Avery are complicated people who are fighting their attraction to each other, but I was rooting for them all the way. The biggest problem with this book was the rushed ending. Things were going along nicely, then all of a sudden it was over. This was disappointing. So good points for a fun story and some good character interactions, but points off for an abrupt finish. I liked revisiting with Jolene and Chance from the previous book. And I look forward to continuing with this series.
Shane and Avery’s book was simply wonderful. I loved the story, the characters, and just everything about it!
I have not had a chance to read this book, Once I have gotten a chance to read it I will edit this review to reflect my thoughts and feeling on the book.
I always enjoy Erin McCarthy. The Nashville Nights series drew me in from the first book and I purestdelightawardhave looked forward to every one since. The story of Shane and Avery was absolutely wonderful. It was fast and fun. The story flowed and it wasn’t drawn out. We got to know and understand both of the main characters and visited with old friends.
Shane came across as a manwhore in previous stories. Now, we are seeing the real man behind the mask. He’s sweet, understanding, has a temper but knows how to reign it in. When he does make a mistake, he knows how to apologize. He has utter respect for women. He adores his mom and sisters. He’s blind-sided by Avery and finally bares his soul, owns up to his past, his mistakes, and his feelings. He’s ready to commit to a relationship and hopes that Avery will have him.
Avery is a naïve, small-town Kentucky girl with a momma that’s a little bit out there. She’s the one person who believes her when she talks about who her father was. She came to Nashville to try to make it as a song-writer and, hopefully, meet her half-brother. She just didn’t think that she would accomplish her goals on the arm of a stranger or because of a lying, cheating ex-boyfriend. But, that’s exactly how everything went down.
Erin McCarthy always puts some kind of a spin to her stories. She has a unique way of bringing her character’s together and wastes no time in making sure they are totally satisfied. She’s funny, serious and entertaining. I’m never bored when I read one of her books and usually fall a little bit in lust with her men. And, Shane was no different. The sex was hot, the story was interesting and I loved the way the characters developed and grew together. Now, I just have to wonder where she will lead us next in this fantastic series.
First, I love Ms. McCarthy's writing. It is always so full of heart and soul that I fall in love with her characters usually before I'm halfway into the book. This was no exception. I loved the setting of Nashville. I loved the backdrop of country music, stars and songwriters. I felt at home reading about Shane and Avery and learning about their pasts and their problems. I loved Shane coming to Avery's rescue, I loved him finding her so accidentally later on and that he fell in love with her work without even knowing it was her song.
I loved this contemporary romance with characters Shane Hart and Avery O'Leery. They were wonderful characters and I enjoyed seeing their relationship change from a friendship to a romance. It was a great follow up to the first book in the series and I love having the main characters from it appear in this one. Fantastic characters, a great premise, and plenty of action in this addition to the Nashville Nights series!
I have been a fan of Erin McCarthy's for years. I have really enjoyed a lot of her books, and she is one of the first authors that I read when I began to read romance novels. That being said, I was not a fan of the first book in this series and I had quite a few issues with it. I was hoping for better here, and while there were some things I liked, this one left me with mixed feelings as well.
Shane is determined not to be like his father, so he doesn't do commitment and doesn't get emotionally involved. So he has no problem helping Avery out when she needs it, but that is as far as he is willing to let things go. Avery has her own agenda, and nowhere on it is falling for Shane. But Shane and Avery quickly realize that what they thought they wanted and had planned are no match for the growing connection between them.
I will admit that a lot of what I struggled with here were the characters themselves. While I wanted to love both of them, I had some issues with things that they each did. I especially had some issues with Shane in the second half of this book. He got pushy and I didn't like the way he was acting or treating Avery. Avery was hard for me to warm up to, and I never fully did. I had a hard time relating to her, and I found the fact that she had been in a relationship for so long yet was as inexperienced as she was to be unrealistic.
Overall, I am beginning to think that this series is just not for me. I think a lot of people will really enjoy it, but it seems to just not fit for me. The characters are a bit on the immature side, and I just haven't been able to connect with either couple in this series so far the way that I would like to. If you are a fan of Erin's or if this one sounds like something you might like, I recommend giving it a shot. I have enjoyed a lot of Erin's books and she is a talented writer, so I think that maybe this series just doesn't work for me personally.
This book opens with the two lead characters meeting like a country music video. Shane Hart one of the top record producers and the brother to Jolene which the first book in this series is about, who is also a top female country music star. Shane leaves the bachelor party that was being thrown for Jolene’s husband, and while walking he hears a female yelling down an alley. He then sees this short little red head jumping out of a four wheel drive pick-up and is yelling at the driver. When he gets closer he finally sees her and is taken back by her beauty, and wants to help her. Avery O’Leary is mad and frustrated and now she cannot talk because of the good looking man who is talking to her asking her if she is okay. It is then that she realizes that she left her purse and phone in her ex-boyfriend’s truck. Shane always wanting to help takes her to a diner nearby and lets her use his phone to try to get a hold of her ex. This begins a night of firsts for both of them because later he gives her a ride on his Harley and she is attracted to him, and him to her. The next morning when his phone is blowing up with text messages she starts to put two, and two together realizing who she spent the night with and feels she needs to get out of their ASAP. When he finally wakes up and realizes that Avery is gone he feels strange and does not know why. It is not until he talks to his brother in law that he figures out that he has feelings for her. The problem is he does not know where she is. Weeks go by and one day Shane goes into a song writing office in Nashville when he hears a song that would be good for his sister. Turns out Avery wrote it and was singing it as well. Now he wants to be with her but she is not so sure because of what other people might think of her dating a record producer. Meanwhile they each have issues from their own past that they must deal with if they even might think they would want a future. The part in the book where Shane goes to confront his father is very moving and the father is still and a hole, but Shane must do this to move on from the past and all of the hurt that man caused him. When Avery comes to her past hers works out. Now it is up to them to see if their might be a chance. This is a very good story with very good characters.
I really liked this book was good an well written with good characters cant wait for more from this series. would recommend
Shane Hart is a love and leave em type of guy. With his traumatic past watching his father abuse his mother he will never treat someone that way. And the best way to make sure that happens is to never start a relationship. Ever. But beautiful firey red head Avery O`Leery might just be enough to change that.Avery just want to make a name for herself as a song writer without anyone finding out who her birthfather is. Even though Shane saved her and can help her she isnt falling for him. Beautiful and sweet romance with some heat. Erin McCarthy always writes book I want to read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Review Copy of this book given to me but Netgalley.
Shane was so sweet in his single minded pursuit of Avery, although a bit ham handed and unthinking in some of his choices. Avery was a kind and interesting character, and they matched quite well together. Very enjoyable read.
Dream Maker is the second book in the Nashville Nights series by Erin McCarthy. This book is told from the point of view of Shane, Jolene's brother, and Avery, someone we haven't met until now. Avery is new to Nashville. She wants to make it as a song writer as well as find some of her family who doesn't know she exists(and she wants to keep it that way). I felt like her character was easy to relate to and was fleshed out well. Shane is a bad boy. As we get to know him, we learn why he's such the bad boy. Just a jerk or is it a defense mechanism? I felt like I got to know both of these characters well. They were fleshed out nicely and easy to relate to. I think this story was a littler bit more entertaining than the first one, plus I enjoyed getting updated on the lives of Jolene and Chance, as they are now fun supporting characters to this book. Who's story will we get next?
