This book was really interesting. The idea of women coming into power and turning on men was intriguing and this book did not shy away from following this idea to its most extreme consequences. I think that this novel illustrates really well that either gender abusing their power over the other is wrong and has terrible consequences for everyone.
Amazing - thought provoking, intelligent and accessible. A 21st century Handmaid's Tale.
A world where one sex is made to be inferior to the opposite sex through physical, mental and sexual abuse? How horrible! But it's the society that we live in TODAY. And that whole idea makes me so fucking mad which is why I was so intrigued and excited when I was given the chance to review this book.
Around the age of 15, girls develop a muscle in their chest that gives them the power to conduct electricity meaning that through one touch, they can inflict pain or even death. Some women have a stronger power than others and many can even awaken the power in other women and pretty much overnight, everything changes.
God has changed gender, armies are full of women, female political figures have now taken over and men begin to fear women. Sounds terrible right? This is just the current world we live in, reversed.
This book felt strong, courageous and powerful and the alternating chapters from different cultures and backgrounds slowly showed the change and how different people used and abused their power. But by the end, it just made you realise that no matter your gender, power will always be used to a person's advantage, whether you're male or female. As I saw in this book, power NEEDS to be contained and the bottom line of this novel makes it incredibly unique and original.
I know we're only five days into 2017 but I think this will be one of my favourite books of the year!
