I am all for a gripping psychological thriller, the twist in this one was good and very well executed....BUT it just dragged! I think it took a little too long and I started to lose my interest a bit. I can see both the positive and negative reviews being spot on, my opinion falls in between. Great turn, but too long!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get into this book once I picked it up. I do hope to give it another try in the future.

I read a lot of suspense and enjoy plot twists and turns. Mary Torjussen delivered! I am pretty good at figuring out what's coming in most novels, but this one pulled the rug right out (in a good way)! This is a must read for those who enjoy surprises and questionable characters in their books.

Hannah Monroe’s goes home and her boyfriend is gone, almost like he never existed. There was no warning, he just disappeared leaving no evidence behind. This book is suspenseful, a bit dark, plenty of twists and turns. Thank you to net galley for a copy of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for this free readers edition. In exchange I am providing an honest review.

Can someone disappear so thoroughly that maybe the time you thought you spent with them was actually a dream? Hannah arrives home from work one evening to find her boyfriend of four years, Matt, gone. So gone, in fact, as if he had never existed. She didn't dream him up did she? Desperate to find him she begins a quest that turns from concern to obsession. And that obsession reveals truths Hannah never anticipated.

Super good and unsettling read. I've read some reviews where people are surprised by the good reviews and my review is in part surprise at the bad reviews. Ha. Everyone has their opinion. In my opinion, this was a great suspenseful read. I knew he couldn't have disappeared for real but I couldn't figure out what he done to disappear and why. I had many theories running through my head until the very end. I literally couldn't put it down, I had to read it in one sitting.

I really enjoyed this book. I was drawn in by the premise of someone you thought you knew and had a relationship with disappearing from your life with no explanation. I definitely did not see the direction this book would eventually take, but I rarely do. I thought it was an interesting, timely development and not one that I have come across in the books I have read. I thought the relationships clear across the board were majorly dysfunctional but I was OK with that because I also thought all the characters were dysfunctional.

This book would definitely be one I would recommend.

Interesting premise that grabbed you at the beginning but then fell a little flat.

I did like all the unexpected twists in the story; couldn't decide if he left or was murdered. It just seemed to take forever to get anywhere in the book.

Gone Without a Trace grabbed my attention immediately and did not let go until the very end. Mary Torjussen writes in a way that drew me to Hannah and made me like her. I felt invested in her life, in this puzzle she came home to and the way she handled her day to day life and the events each day held.

I usually like to skim most of the books I read, but I was afraid to skim this book. What if I missed an integral part of the story, that one missing piece that would allow me to figure out what had really happened. Never once, in my reading of this book, did I feel like I knew what was happening, what was going to happen, or what kind of surprises lie ahead of me waiting to be discovered. I was kept in suspense the entire time I read and I love that! I love not having a clue as to what is happening, I love not being able to solve the mystery.

Would I recommend this book?

Yes! Absolutely!

To whom would I recommend this book?

I would recommend Gone Without a Trace to readers who enjoy excellent character development. The characters in this story do not remain stagnant, they do not become predictable. The author has a gift for developing characters in an entertaining, yet realistic way. Hannah starts out as a put together, intelligent, business woman and to see how she evolves is like watching magic take place on the pages. The supporting cast also evolves, changes, becomes more interesting, confusing, and complex.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy suspense and feeling confused-in the best way possible. Once you begin reading, it is going to be very difficult to put down.

If you have found yourself in a bit of a reading slump, try this book on for size. It helped me and I feel confident recommending this title to others who are struggling as well. Let me know what you think!

This was a debut novel by Ms Torjussen, and I can see her going places. The book was very entertaining, and I could not wait to see if Hannah finds her boyfriend..... it felt like a race against the bad guys. Well written and worth the effort.

Berkley Publishing and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Gone Without A Trace. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

Hannah Monroe's life comes crashing down the instant that she gets back from a work conference. Her boyfriend Matt is gone, with all traces of him removed from their house. As she tries to figure out what happened, Hannah's personal and professional life goes spiraling out of control. When things start to appear and others go missing from her house, will Hannah figure out the truth before her life is completely destroyed?

This psychological thriller includes a couple of good twists that completely change the outlook of the book. The fractures in Hannah's life appear early in the story, but it is not until the book nears its conclusion that the truth is revealed. Some of the aspects of the plot, namely the psychological trauma that Hannah is subjected to, are too repetitive and the story lags a bit in the middle as a result. Hannah's relationship with Katie was a little overdone, as it was obvious that there was more to their friendship than met the eye. Stories that are told from the perspective of an unreliable narrator can get off track very easily, but the author was able to reveal Hannah's background in a way that kept the plot moving forward. Overall, I enjoyed Gone Without A Trace and I look forward to reading more by author Mary Torjussen in the future.

First, I'd like to thank Netgalley, Headline Publishing, and Mary Torjussen for sending me an advanced copy to read in exchange for an honest review. I know that the book was published back in March, but here is my review!

The beginning of this book definitely caught my attention. Hannah goes to work one day, very happy and content with life. When she returns home, her world is shattered when she not only finds her boyfriend not there, but no trace of him. At all. She moves around the house not finding anything of his. Pictures, clothes, etc., are all gone. I wouldn't know what to do. I'd be furious, hurt, numb, and lastly, inquisitive of where and why he left.

After that initial grab, I really struggled through the middle section of the book. I feel like I didn't really connect to any of the characters and I didn't really like them either. I feel like there were just filler words being put there instead of substance that the book needed. From 20% in, I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. Even though my page number was increasing, I wasn't grasping really anything new. If you are a fan of slow burn, this is a really slow burn.

After contemplating stopping a few times, I decided that I just wanted to see how it ended. I could finish it in a few hours if I really sat down and read it. I reached 70%, and I was so happy that something finally happened. I've never given up on a book, so, I was excited to see something catch my attention. However, it was a little short lived. I saw some other things coming from some foreshadowing earlier in the book, but there was one specific part that I did not see coming. I was grateful for that.

Overall, I wasn't a big fan of this novel. This was described as a gripping, twisty, chilling and compulsive. Looking back at this book, I would say that it was somewhat twisty, but the rest, I didn't see it being like that. Thank you again for the advanced copy!

From the beginning of this book, the reader knows that Matt is gone and "Gone Without a Trace" he has packed up everything from his underwear to his pictures on the wall to his tv. She comes home from a work trip to nothing.

The first few chapters I understood that the scene was getting set, but right when I was done hearing about Hannah's wonderment, the story turned and from there to the end, I barely set it down! I loved the idea of someone just completely disappearing and then the idea that Hannah even questioned if she really knew him all that much after clue after clue slowly unravels the truth.

After finishing the book I went to read reviews and saw that there were almost two different camps, one who didn't love the reveal and those who loved it. I would say I loved the reveal but agree with the part of that crowd that felt as though post reveal did drag for a bit. This didn't change my enjoyment of the read and I would definitely read the next one from Mary Torjussen.

A fantastic addition to the "Girl on the Train," "Gone Girl," genre of mystery thrillers that readers will love. It was an epic tale of "ghosting" - the act of disappearing and ending all communication with a friend or prospective love interest - but "epic" because the main character's boyfriend simply vanishes with no trace, as if he were never even there. This sets up a pretty page-turning premise, where the reader just needs to know what is to come. I won't spoil it, but definitely add this to the thrill reads of the summer.
