I received a digital copy of this novel from NetGalley.
I have discovered most of my new favorite writers on NetGalley. J B Turner is one of them. His novels are filled with suspense and thrilling twists. "Hard Kill" is an action packed novel that will keep you wide awake.
Fun thriller that moves at a good pace, though slightly slower than the first I still found this enjoyable. I'm enjoying this as a 'new to me series' and I can't wait to read what happens next. Jon Reznick is not dissimilar to others characters in the genre but he's a likeable character in amongst all the politicos in these books. I will certainly be reading more of this series when I can.
This was an interesting book. I mean the writer really did throw in a fair bit of complications that would keep me hooked on to the mystery of who was doing what. But the main problem with this book was:
1. There's a lack of information about Reznick. I mean I read this one out of the others I had requested and I had no idea about him and his history. There was very little information about him as a person and what are his thoughts and where he comes from as a person.
2. The action was very very slow burn. It took to almost the very last chapter before there was some element of excitement that happened in the book. That really annoyed me because there was intrigue but then it wasn't the typical spy thriller. It was too little too late.
There's no clear motive behind all of this. I mean I get the explanations that the writer did put in but then it came in so late and there was no perspective about why the DC surgeon would do what he did. The explanations there weren't altogether that great. All in all, I would probably read the other books by the author but then this one wasn't one of the better thrillers I have read. There's no explanation for things moving only towards the end of the book. Even the action at the end wasn't fast paced. I mean when you're involving all the agencies in the US in one book, there has to be some action right?
Another big issue I had with this book is that it covered too many administrative issues. By that, I mean it focussed too much on the bureacracy and meetings. The threat is big and grave, but at no point did I feel it was a huge enough threat for me to be worried about it. The villain wasn't really clear till the very end and that wasn't very enjoyable. If the issue or the problem is serious but it isn't somehow depicted to be as serious as it is then that's just a tragedy really.
All in all, not one of the better thrillers I have read on NetGalley.
Jon Reznick is a man I want on my team, heck in my life. This is book 2 and as in book 1 he is called in to assist with the FBI. This is a thriller with some intrigue thrown in. It is unnerving, to say the least, that some of this is truly plausible. I would like to think that our government and all the alphabets are a tad more intelligent then this book leads us to believe. I get that Jon is the man we want to follow, he is our point, but unless he is God he can't do everything, I will read book 3 and hope there is a little more knowledge and ass kicking from all, not just Jon
This book is the second in the series about from Delta officer Jon Reznick. While the storyline has a little gap between where the first book left us, the story is just as intense and equally enthralling.
I read the book I fast as I could which was in barely a day and I enjoyed every second of it.
Once again Reznick and the FBI are working in tango, where Reznick is rubbing people the wrong way by his direct approach and abrasive personality, but nothing is getting between Reznick and finding the missing scientist.
The story is a lot more complex than it first appears and I frequently found myself thrown back by the events, but it was entirely plausible as it unfolds.
Great story and I have already thrown myself into the third book in the series as I'm writing this.
Fans of Brad Thor, Lee Child and Vince Flynn will love this book and series.
Another fast paced thriller with Jon Resnick. This second book in the series has more surveillance of different subjects than action. There are a lot of characters to keep the reader on their toes. Some of the terminology was a little confusing but most was explained. The only thing I found annoying is the excessive use of the 'f'' word. Recommended to all who enjoy FBI/CIA thrillers.
Again, an interesting premise overshadowed by shoddy writing.
Thank you to Net Galley, the author and the publishers for an ARC copy for an honest review.
Firstly let me explain why 3.5/4 star book.
Still very enjoyable, love the main character Jon Reznick and Martha Meyerstein but the story was slightly slower going, a lot of meetings, a lot of surveillance, a lot more "talking" rather than action.
An American diplomat goes missing and ex-Special Forces operative Jon Reznick joins a top secret team, led by FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein, to help track him down.
The team believes that there may be a terrorist group - perhaps Islamists - who have kidnapped him, as the diplomat's area of expertise is the Persian Gulf. But Reznick is training his sights on an unlikely candidate - a leading Washington DC surgeon.
But as the team itself comes under attack, and the 9/11 commemoration approaches, it becomes clear that the kidnapping is part of a much bigger plot, one that threatens not only New York, but the whole country too.
Although not as fast paced as the first book, still well paced, tensions really build up for the last third of the book, many great characters and quite a few shocks throughout.
Jon Reznick is a great strong character that will be around for a awhile.
Another series that fans of action thrillers will enjoy.
Now straight to Book 3.
