I really enjoyed "Life Unexpected" by J.A. Stone. A young widow, having a baby, resolving her old and new relationships. Well depicted struggles in priorities, motherhood, and love. Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
Life Unexpected is a quick and easy beach read about life choices, second chances, and following one's own path. It didn't quite follow the path that I expected, but is an emotional journey to finding one's home. Thanks to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for the advance digital copy!
I liked this romance overall but there are two reasons i didn't give it a higher rating. First, I generally dislike romances that result in a pregnancy, especially after the first time the couple is together. Second, I really disliked the receipt in this story. It sort of ruined it for me.
We never expect the unexpected and books about tragic loss often make us begin thinking about the different choices we would make if we faced such loss. All the "what if's" are suddenly reality. You will enjoy the insight and the way the author guides the reader to confront basic truths.
Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Life Unexpected. This is my honest opinion of the book.
After her husband passes away from an illness, Corey Bennett is a shell of her former self. Asked to take a two week break from the law firm for which she works, Corey ends up going to her family's beach house in Mexico Beach, Florida for some relaxation. Reconnecting with Tripp MacKinnon was unexpected, and the result of their reunion was even more surprising. In an effort to keep her life exactly as it was, will Corey miss out on some of the best moments of her life? Will her grief over losing her husband cloud her future happiness?
Life Unexpected is a typical clean romance - no surprises, but a feel good story that will make readers smile. The biggest issue that I have with this book is that the author uses the typical male stereotype to make a point about working women. The plot line is not believable, especially in a law firm, and I found it to be completely unnecessary. Life Unexpected was a quick read and one that is perfect to bring to the beach.
was captivated by this emotional story...have shared it w/ all of my reading friends.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting caught up in the pages of this book. I loved the days spent on the Florida beach with recently widowed Corey, and watching her discover and rekindle old feelings for a childhood crush.
The story that plays out in the days to come was sad and sweet, full of a little angst but ultimately so lovely. And just my kind of delicious romance. I enjoyed every moment of it.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a tender, sometimes difficult love story and a heroine who finds the strength to move on after tragedy in a beautiful way. I loved this one.
I'm glad this was an easy read. I lived the life expected and so much of the book resonated. Unlike Corey, I waited much longer to let life in its unexpected glory move as it would
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Corey Bennett knows how to handle loss: she buries her grief, just as she buried her loved ones. After losing her parents to a tragic car accident and then her husband to cancer, Corey has focused all her attention on her career—first in law school and then on the partner track at a prestigious Atlanta law firm. When her boss insists she take a vacation, Corey balks. But two weeks on the Florida Gulf Coast, where she reconnects with Tripp, a childhood friend, prove to be profoundly rejuvenating.
Torn between her workaholic patterns and a new urge to nurture, Corey starts to question all her past choices. What does she want her life to be? And is she brave enough to say yes to love again?
This was one of those books that you pick up and cannot put down, as it is well written and you quickly become invested in the character. Yes, it was predictable as times, but most books seem to be.
Corey's had her share of loss at her young age - both of her parents died in a car accident, then her husband succumbed to cancer. She has thrown herself into her career as a lawyer in the hopes of becoming a partner in the near future. Recognizing that she needs a break, Corey's boss orders her to take a two week vacation. Corey retreats from her busy life in Atlanta to her family beach house in Florida and her life is never quite the same....
What I took away from this book is that some of the greatest things in our lives appear when we least expect them. Also, sometimes we need to stop and consider the path we're on - are we going about the motions for someone else or our ourselves?
I did enjoy this read, but some of it was predictable and the way some things worked out seemed a little forced.
I received a copy of this book thru NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This was a pleasant book to read. A lot was kind of predictable in the way of what the characters did and how their lives played out. Although times while reading it I wished they had done things different, I was overall happy with the ending. Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for giving me this opportunity.
