Mistletoe Cottage by Debbie Mason
WOW, this book has a lot of characters. lol. I understand that groundwork must be laid for the future of the series, but fair warning to keep a notepad with you so you can keep track of who is who! The story itself starts out rather depressing and somber, with Sophie reluctantly moving back to her hometown after losing everything in a fire. Liam is super happy to see her since he's had a thing for her for ages, so we've got a bit of a second chance love story that's always fun to see. Sophie and Liam are great together. I like their chemistry and their history. Then the big revelation comes and that's when I started to check out. It felt off to me. Another reviewer said that it needed more discussion, and I think that's my problem with it as well. It wasn't handled the best. I loved Liam's interactions with the little girl, Mia. I didn't love Sophie's moodiness. The ending felt rushed and like it was spinning out of control, but I'm intrigued enough by the other characters and I liked the small town so I think it's worth continuing!
Really liked this book. Interesting characters and good story flow. Like the town and getting to know the residents. Hard to put down. Like the intrigue and the way it makes you wonder what is going to happen. Good read. Would recommend.
What a great start for a new series. Not only does Debbie Mason know how to tell a good story, she knows how to set the stage. The small town setting of this story is perfect, as are all of the supporting characters. While the premise of the story--girl leaves small town to save face, returns later due to circumstances beyond her control, runs into old boyfriend--has been done several times before, Ms. Mason has a way of making it all seem new. I'm always a sucker for a Christmas story, and this one was easy to love. Looking forward to the next installment.
Book Review:
Mistletoe Cottage by Debbie Mason is the first book in her new series, Harmony Harbor. I enjoy Debbie's books and was ecstatic when I heard about her upcoming series. Mistletoe Cottage has me in love with this book, series and the town of Harmony Harbor.
In this book, we meet Sophie DiRossi who fled the town at the age of eighteen when she found out she was pregnant and certain that the boy she loved didn't love her back. Now years later, she is back in town with her daughter.
Liam Gallaghar loved Sophie and was heartbroken when she left. Now she is back in town and though determined never to go down the love lane for Sophie, he cant help but fall a little each time they cross paths.
The romance is heartfelt and engaging. I loved Sophie because she is a realistic character that has made mistakes, is prone to erratic behaviour and despite all this, loves and fiercely protects the people she loves. Liam is a swoon worthy hero. He is loyal, hardworking, passionate and a keeper. I loved how these very different people overcame all their differences and quirks to begin a new life together.
The main plot also features Greystone Manor, a large manor/hotel that the Gallagher family runs and the town leans on for tourist season. It’s failing. Enter Sophie who has just finished her classes to become a manger. She breathes life into the old place and romance into her own life. I liked the small town feel that is so similar to Mason’s other series. So many characters are introduced in this book that are all so very different and have me intrigued. I am eager to read about them and hope they get featured in the upcoming books in this series. I adored Liam and Mia, Sophie’s daughter. Mia's character is so beautifully developed and it was enlightening and entertaining to see the child come out of her shell.
The DiRossi and Gallagher feud also lends many funny moments and I am eager to see what the elderly matriarchs of these two families will do next. They are causing scandals and chaos in this book and I know will be brewing trouble in the next books too.
I am especially eager to read about Sophie's cousin, Ava who has been hinted to have been a vivacious girl once but is now just a shell of her former headstrong and independent self. I want to know what happened to make her like this and know more about Greystone Manor's fate. Can it be saved before it is too late?
All in all, Mistletoe Cottage by Debbie Mason is a book that brings holiday cheer to our homes and makes us believe in miracles. I absolutely loved this book and cant wait to read the upcoming books in this series. 4.5 out of 5 stars to it from me and strongly recommended to everyone. Come visit Harmony Harbor where scandals, budding romances and a touch of supernatural abound!
I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above is my honest and unbiased review.
I really enjoyed this book, the attention to detail made the book very easy to read. It kept me hooked all the way through, there were a few twists and turns and I found it to be a page turner until the end - 5 stars!
A sweet holiday romance featuring a sexy firefighter and a single mom that happens to be his best friends little sister, who have a second chance at love. I loved this introduction to a new series! While giving us a sweet love story between Liam and Sophie, Ms. Mason introduces us to a new small town, its interesting characters and hooks us with all the secrets still to be revealed in the upcoming books. I'm already eagerly waiting for the next book! Fans of the Christmas, Colorado series will love it!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.
I liked this romance but didn't love it. It felt too much like a Hallmark movie and that didn't sit well with me. I love romance but when it feels sickeningly sweet and just too..predictable, don't like it all. This story had some good points though. The characters were interesting and I really liked getting to know them, it was just the way the romance that played out that made me cringe a bit. There is NOTHING wrong with Hallmark type of romance but for me it just isn't my cup of tea. Now what really popped for me was this gorgeous cover! I loved the eye popping colors and the beautiful image that was on the cover. That alone was worth picking up the book.
I love starting a brand new series with an author I'm still getting to know. Although I've only read the last four books in Debbie Mason's Christmas, Colorado series, I happily added her to my "must read" list. Now I get to experience the excitement of meeting new characters and swooning over their romances. Mistletoe Cottage was a fun and festive introduction to the Gallaghers and the DiRossi's. I adored Sophie, Liam, and little Mia. The family unit they created was perfection. I loved how quickly they fell into place. There were moments when things got a bit shaky, but I never once doubted their future. Instead of breaking them up, it made their bond stronger. Now if you've ever read one of the author's previous books, you'll know that there is usually a large cast of characters. Not only are readers introduced to Liam, Sophie, and Mia, we also get to meet their families, friends, and other citizens that reside in the small town of Harmony Harbor. And honestly, it felt a bit busy at times and the romance between Liam and Sophie got a bit lost. However, as I finished Mistletoe Cottage, I ended up loving how all of those "busy" moments came together to set up the next couple of books. Those moments gave this book that little extra bit of special, especially a certain matriarch. She was a hoot in this book and I'm so looking forward to the antics she's got up her sleeves for the rest of the characters. I'm looking forward to getting know the these characters better and see whose romance is coming up next.
I absolutely loved Mistletoe Cottage! Debbie Mason's writing is pure magic. I loved all of the characters and instantly felt a connection with them all. I can't wait to read more about the citizens and happenings of Harmony Harbor.
There was a pretty major plot twist that Sophie took without any outburst or emotion which I found to be quite out of character. Otherwise, this was a fun holiday themed romance that I enjoyed.
This is so good!! So many unexpected twists and turns. There is history between these two and it spirals out of control at one point. I thought the HEA was in serious jeopardy! There is also a book of secrets to find that almost everyone in the Widows society is hunting for! Who will find it first?
There is nothing better than curling up with a good book on a cold snowy day. Debbie Mason’s Mistletoe Cottage, the start of her new Harmony Harbor series, is a perfect choice. Written in the same style as her Christmas, Colorado, series, this book to existing fans will feel like the perfect set of slippers. New fans will love the rich history of the town, and penchant for secrets. Liam and Sophie are one of those couples destined to be together from page one. Though I would have liked her to deal a little more with the trauma some of the characters were suffering, in all it was a delightful afternoon read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
This is the 5th book of Debbie Mason's that I have read and the 1st in her Harmony Harbor series. I think that Debbie did a great job in this book developing the characters of both Sophie and Liam but also other characters and building a great back story to explain why their lives had turned out the way they did. As you read the story you learned more and more about Sophie's past and also Liam's and what led them to who they were today.
In addition to developing great characters Debbie also did a great job of setting the scene. Debbie really made you feel like you were in Harmony Harbor and part of the town. By having the story set in a small town of Harmony Harbor it helped add to the story because the small town feel made sense to the story. What I also enjoyed about this book was all the twists and turns in addition to the romance that she included in the story. The twists and turns added to the story because you never knew where the new twists and turns would lead and how she would end the book. As you read the book it was hard for you to put down because you want to find out the answers.
Can't wait to read more books in this series.
