I've enjoyed other stories by Noelle Adams before, but for me, this one was a bit of a letdown. I didn't really connect with the heroine as much as I would have liked and lost interest as a result
What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
It took me a really long time to read this book. It was too easy to put it down and pick up something else.
I have read Noelle Adams before and enjoyed her books. This one did nothing for me at all. I felt no chemistry between the main characters. No sexual tension, no enjoyment with their relationship, nothing. Definitely no good feels.
They both had issues they couldn't seem to get past until the very end. On top of that, the issues didn't make much sense to me. It was irritating that he would drop everything for the ex-wife every time she decided to fall drink off a bar stool. In fact, the whole book just irritated me.
I'm not even sure where I got the book from. I think it may have been NetGalley. This won't stop me from reading this writer's work. I have read too many other books by her that I have enjoyed. But note this one.
A sweet story with some good chemistry between Rob and Allison. Loved that Allison is trying to find her independence after being a trophy wife for 8 or so years. She was 18 when she chose to marry a man she wasn’t in love with. She was young and dumb, and thought she needed to maintain her lifestyle. She’s realized that money isn’t everything as she’s grown up and has set off to live her own life. She is a bit too prickly at times, but I liked her. She needs to learn that being independent doesn’t mean rejecting all offered help; it doesn’t make you weak to accept help.
Ron hasn’t made good decisions in his past; he didn’t necessarily use his brains when choosing women. He’s been married twice; to two very undesirable sounding women, so he came across as a bit shallow minded. Also, it’s a small town, so there’s some ex problems that Allison rightly isn’t too keen on. Rob’s too much of a nice guy; it’s like he can’t stand not being liked, so he does get taken advantage of at times. He’s a sweetie though and a good fit for Allison.
The romance was sweet and spicy. I was getting tired and annoyed at Allison’s insistence about not wanting a relationship. She would blow things way out of proportion when they had just started being together. The whole notes thing was too cute! Loved it.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and entertained by Trophy Wife. A good story.
This was a quick, breezy read and had all the makings of a Noelle Adams book. I had a few issues with their insecurities holding them both to ransom for so long into their relationship, because it felt too drawn out and repetitive. But I did enjoy how Allison's life built up into something more meaningful for her, and that she worked her way through her issues. It may have been a gilded prison, but she clearly felt trapped in her marriage and had the strength to take action to improve her life. Rob was almost more damaged by his past than she was, which seemed slightly strange, but certainly came through in his thoughts.
Allison is a trophy wife but decides she wants more than that for herself. She leaves her husband in search of finding out who she is on her own and determined to make her own dreams come true.
Rob has had two marriages fail and he will not let himself be vulnerable to a woman again. He puts on a tough exterior shell but really he just wants to build a lasting relationship that will sustain his tender heart.
Allison’s need to stand on her own and Rob’s need to be strong and held everyone are counterproductive. Can they compromise for each other to find a true and lasting love?
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title. Unfortunately, I have lost interest in the title, partly due to trusted reviews, and will not be reviewing the title. I have, however, promoed the title through my weekly recap with links to Amazon. Thank you again, and I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.
This was such a sweet romance! It was a very good second chance romance! I enjoyed the characters and the writing was good. Looking forward to reading more from this author!
Cute story about trying to find yourself while getting out of a bad situation. I would have liked for Rob and Alison to meet on better circumstances, but the story worked none the less.
Poor Alison........she was a trophy wife and now thanks to her prenup, she's poor. She was married to that jerk for 8 years...ugh! She has now sworn off men even if they are a major hunk!
Rob sees his new neighbor moving in and oh boy, is she hot! He will get to know her! He didn't plan on her having an aversion to men! That's okay, he loves a challenge! But, how long will it take to wear her down?
This was an awesome book! Thanks to NetGalley via Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept!
As always I want to thank Netgalley and Random House Loveswept for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.
Though I will admit that the title kind of threw me off on how this book was going to be like I did enjoy it. I like how Rob is able to show her that there is more to life then the way that she grew up and that her first husband treated her. He shows her that she is more than just a trophy wife. I also really liked how Alison grew and changed throughout the book. She really grows as a character and becomes more. She learns to be independent but that just because she is independent that doesn't mean that she cant also hold on to and get support from Rob.
I give this book 4 growing kisses...
Happy Reading... Adri
Trophy Wife by Noelle Adams
Alison Davies just got away from a man who treated her like a possession. She was married to a man who took advantage of an eighteen year old girl and he made her sign a prenuptial agreement. Now she has no means of supporting herself. However she is free of being shackled to a nasty character. Now she has a chance with a new man but is afraid of getting treated badly and like a trophy wife. This keeps her from moving on and having a healthy relationship with somebody who is nice this time.
This falls into the category of women's fiction. The writing flowed easily and the characters were interesting. I enjoyed this story and would read more from this author.
Thank you to Net Galley, Noelle Adams and the Publisher for providing me with my copy for a fair and honest review. (I have read this a while ago and my review disappeared)
I will start by saying that I love books by Noelle Adams - I think I have almost all of her books. Normally one of my go-to's for a sweet romance.
However this particular book just didn't hit the mark for me. It was a bit different than her usual books and maybe that's just me but I just couldn't get into it.
There was a lot of internal dialogue for both the H and h and they took a long time to come together in a really meaningful way, in my opinion. Slower paced and more time spent on the h's ex husband than I needed to know.
Will look forward to more from this author but this just wasn't my favorite.
I've floated between ambivalence and really liking this story. It's warm and sweet and a good story but didn't hold my full interest all the way through.
Allison has had a tough but hard to imagine marriage as the very beautiful, much younger wife of a successful businessman. Being treated very much like a possession rather than a thinking breathing human being has been hard on her and after divorcing him eight years into the marriage she has a lot of learning to do, including learning to trust Rob, her new neighbour, who is interested in her but has his own set of problems.
I liked watching the relationship develop between Allison and Rob, but felt the sex was overdone. I don't ned a sex scene every few pages to convince me that a couple cares for each other, and while thankfully Noelle Adams didn't go into graphic detail, I got a bit bored with all the huffing and puffing, bottom clutching and details about how fast or slow things are happening. Frankly I just don't care.
I did like the use of reflective characters such as Rob's parents, Chelle and Allison's friend Vicki. Their roles were done well, and the emotional development that came as a result of their input was good.
Clearly this book has been a bit of a mixed bag for me, but on the whole not a bad read.
Trophy Wife is the kind of fun steamy read that is perfect to curl up with one weekend. Alison was a trophy wife, but thanks to a prenup, is now flat broke. Trying to learn how to live without money is hard enough, she certainly doesn't need a man coming in, bossing her around and complicating things further. One jerk that is now in the past is one too many. Rob has a rugged exterior, but is a gentleman at heart. When he sees his new neighbor, he's determined to help her, but Alison refuses. That only makes Rob more determined. Soon they are falling into bed for a one night stand that leaves Rob convinced they share a deeper connection. Can two people damaged by past relationships take another chance on love? I really enjoyed Rob and Alison. They were believable characters who were broken, but not totally irreparable. Watching them get to know each other was a lot of fun and loved how Noelle Adams wrote their story in a way that highlighted a strong woman and a caring man finding each other and in the processes better understanding themselves.
A nice enough read but it really didn't do it for me..... I couldn't connect to either of the characters and didn't really feel any kind of real interest as to how things should work out for them.
Rob's character felt a little weak to me. He had been divorced twice and following that had so many issues and had built up his walls that I think he had forgotten who he was. Allison had led her life being someone else to her ex-husband that she wasn't sure how to be herself and was so determined not to be another 'trophy wife' that she ended up being someone else again when it came to how she interacted with Rob.
Sadly, Trophy Wife didn't work for me but if you're a fan of Noelle Adams other books I'm sure you'll enjoy this one too!
I enjoyed it while I was reading it, but it didn't stick with me for very long afterwards.
A great story!! Alison has left her life as the "trophy wife" now flat broke she takes a job ass a waitress from the help of her neighbor, Rob. They both have exs, but soon find they can not fight off the chemistry but can Alison open her heart up to Rob. How can you not love Rob with all the sweet notes on the napkins at the diner he leaves Alison.
I really enjoyed this story. Great characters!! It was great to see how Alison grew through out the story. I highly recommend this book!
At the age of eighteen, Alison found herself penniless and without many options for a bright future. She decides to pursue a forty-five year old colleague of her father’s who had expressed interest in her. They date for three months and marry. Every decision is taken care of for her and all she has to do is look pretty, dress pretty and make her husband happy.
Eight years later, Alison has had enough. Her husband was never mean or abusive, but she wants to experience life, and go to school, and make her own choices. She packs up and divorces her husband. Due to a tight pre-nup agreement, she is left with nothing. She moves into her late grandmother’s house in a small town and decides to start living life.
Her neighbor across the street is named Rob. Divorced twice with an ex who won’t leave him alone, Rob offers Alison help around her house – help she tries to refuse and grudgingly accepts. Rob owns the local hardware store and when Alison discovers jobs aren’t easy to come by in this town, especially since she has zero work experience, Rob puts in a good word for her at the diner, and Alison becomes a waitress.
Rob is smitten with her and even bets his friend that he can date her within three months. Alison is guarded and wants to prove to herself that she can make it on her own, so she pushes Rob away time and time again.
This story fell very flat for me. Alison had no emotions or passion or anything. She wasn’t funny or angry or bitchy. She was just – there. Rob had a little more charm to him, but I needed something more in this story to keep me engaged. I found my eyes wandering all over the room landing everywhere but my kindle. There wasn’t a lot that happened – just Rob pursuing Alison who isn’t sure what she wants. Alison does like making jewelry so that plays a part in the book – but not enough to keep me interested.
I was excited to see this premise from this author, as I have liked her previous work, but it didn’t work.
Grade: D
the characters were well developed through out the story. This book has a fab story. This book has the perfect mix of drama and very loveable characters to keep you reading long into the night. I just couldn't put this book down till id finished it. I cant wait to read ore from this author in the future.
