I honestly don't even really know where to begin with this review. This book was so good, and it happened to be the first one that I have ever read from JB Salsbury. I have heard great things about her books, so I knew after reading the blurb for this one that I had to read it. Split captivated me right from the start, and I couldn't put it down. I am going to keep this review as vague as possible so as not to spoil the story, because trust me you need to experience this one without knowing what will happen.

After spending his childhood trying to protect himself from others, Lucas now finds that his mind is his own worst enemy. He has blackouts, and while he can't recall what happens during the blackouts, he does remember the feelings from them. Lucas finally seems to have found a place where he can live a quiet life, safe from the darkness. But when his boss's estranged daughter shows up asking questions, Lucas finds his life spiraling out of control once again.

I found Lucas absolutely fascinating. I liked his character, and I felt invested in him right away. I really felt for all that he had been through, and he had so many layers to him. While he was all alpha, he had a softer side too and that was something that I found irresistible. Shyann was tough and sassy, and I liked her right away. The chemistry between them was intense, and I really loved the dynamic between them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more from JB Salsbury. This book was unique and unpredictable, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat from the first word. While I can usually predict where things are going, Split kept me guessing. Because of this story being so unique, I think that it will appeal to romance readers of all genres. While it does have elements of suspense, mystery, and even dark moments, it reads more contemporary to me and I think is a story that is well worth the read. I definitely recommend this one if you are looking for something different.

Okay so in one word by JB Salsbury is WOW. This is definitely not your usual romance not even sure if what I read is romance for it is far beyond that genre. I was torn between Lucas and Gage and boy Shyann sure has it hard right now to pick. These two are so opposite from what I thought at first yet throughout the book it all makes sense. It is hard to explain and worth to get it from JB Salsbury for there are so many elements in this book that makes it highly recommended. One thing for sure eve you as a reader will have a hard time who to love, Lucas or Gage. Two people with so many qualities about them makes you wonder how Shyann can pick. Loved it.

Split is the first traditionally published book by JB Salsbury and it does not disappoint. As an avid/rabid reader LOL of her Fighting Series I was so very excited to give this one a shot. Jamie's books are always well thought out and have great twists and turns and though this may be her first "suspense" romance it is definitely not her first time giving us suspense. Her writing style reminds me of those she is influenced by such as Kristen Ashley. You will always get a hefty dose of alpha male and cave man in her male leads but not so much that it leaves you drowning in misogyny and grief. Shyann is a strong female which JB is also known for writing. She has her flaws and her pride often gets in her way but in the end she ends up right where she needs to be. Lucas is a really wonderfully wounded guy. He will pull on your heart strings and draw you in while seducing you. Gage is pure masculine, adrenaline, danger, and sex. You don't just get the nice guy or the bad boy in this book. You get both and for those who like complex characters this book will do it for you.

This audio book was narrated by both a male and female narrator J.F. Harding and Holly Chandler. I enjoyed both narrators especially J.F. Harding who had to convey the difficult characters of Lucas and Gage. I won't say anymore about that in case for some reason you are reading this review and have not yet read the book. If you like some steaming hot sexy times and mystery with your romance then this is the book for you.

It is a standalone so no worries about committing to a series that you have to keep up with now. Though I do highly recommend her Fighting Series if you have not read them yet. They do not end in cliffhangers so whether she releases no more books or twelve more you can read with ease of mind that each book wraps up fully.

JB Salsbury's indie romances are among some of my favorites. I was excited to have the chance to review an early copy of her first traditionally published work. Being a long time fan, I didn't bother much with reading the synopsis, because really, Split? A title like that could go a few different ways, so I was excited when I realized where the story was headed. I've read a book like this before, which I loved, however the execution here was unbearable at times. Unfortunately, I have to report that I'm pretty disappointed with the entire experience.

For starters, there was so much introspection. I'm good with a little inner dialogue here and there, and can find enjoyment in it, but the use here was excessive. It was to the point where I thought many times "what's even happening here?" Oh, and coming from multiple (yes, more than two) points of view? Just maddening. It took so much away from my enjoyment that I never really got the chance to know the characters because I ended up skimming all the long drawn out mind drama.

The element of suspense really overshadowed any kind of chemistry between the protagonists. So much that when it finally came time for the steamy scenes, I was disinterested as they felt rote and manufactured.

Needless to say I won't be recommending Split. Kind of bummed. I hope this isn't the beginning of a break up.

Let me start off by saying how much I adore JB Salsbury and how much I enjoyed each book in her fighting series. Without a doubt, she is an incredibly talented writer. Needless to say, I was extremely excited to receive an early copy of “Split” through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. But much to my dismay, I found “Split” to be a bit of a disappointment.

“Split” is a standalone novel with a very unique premise. In general, I applaud authors for taking risks and am often drawn to stories that are “outside the box.” But despite the story’s potential, it just never quite worked for me. The author oversimplified a very complex psychological disorder, and as such, I found the story’s progression to be extremely unrealistic. To compound things even further, I personally thought that the characters were unlikeable and not very relatable. Based on other readers' reviews, however, clearly I am in the minority.

It is difficult to give a full account of the story’s plot without giving away too many spoilers, but I will do my best to summarize:

Shyann sees herself as self-important and too good for her home town of Payson, Arizona. But after her lofty career goals in broadcasting fall apart, she reluctantly heads home until she’s able to get her life back on track. Sporting a major attitude, she starts working for her father’s construction firm, where she meets a very shy, but very talented carpenter, named Lucas. Almost immediately, Shyann is drawn to Lucas, but is dismayed by his aloofness. In turn, Lucas is attracted to Shyann, but fears getting too close, as he has secrets that he must guard at all costs.

Fast forward, and we find that Shyann has unwittingly discovered Lucas’ secret, and endeavors to help him hide it from the town. Despite knowing what she does, Shyann seeks more from Lucas than just mere friendship. And that’s when the story veers off into the direction of the absurd and unbelievable, making it difficult for me to finish.

Regardless of my opinion about “Split,” I do give props to JB Salsbury for delving outside her comfort zone and taking a chance on something new. While the story missed its mark with me, it appears she hit her target with many other readers. Whether you are already an existing fan of JB Salsbury or are just discovering her for the very first time, you too, might just want to take a chance and then simply decide for yourself.

This book is a prime example of why I love reading. I've been in love with Jaime's work since I first read the Fighting Series, and every book is better than the last.

Split was a suspenseful read, slightly darker than what JB usually writes. But man did she hit it out of the park. The plot line was so different and unique from anything else that is out there.

The story of Lucas, Gage, and Shyann was addicting. Heartbreaking. Complex. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone but I highly recommend you pick up a copy today! 5 Stars

This book split me in two, pun intended. This review will be short and simple because words couldn't ever really do it justice. No spoilers are needed for this one. Go into it blind and fall in love with it like I did.

If you're looking for an intense, hot, romantic thriller with all the feels, this is it.Be prepared to leave the last page with a book hangover because this one does not let you go!
