This romance sizzles. A character that brings the charm, banter and sizzle. A second chance romance that heats up with every page and leaves you begging for more.

I love Robin's books and this is a must!

I loved this book.

Robin Covington never fails to delight with her quirky humor and hard hitting sub-themes, and this « second time around » romance is true to form, dealing with drugs, organized crime, dysfunctional families, workplace politics and the long term effects of the soul deep scars we hide from others – sometimes even those we love most.

Beck Sutherland is a brilliant doctor looking for a promotion to his dream job. The problem is that he’s also a maverick and an adrenaline junkie who does what he likes without much thought to what the “suits” are going to think of him. Now, his fate, and that of the ER team leader’s job are in the hands of exactly those administrative “suits” including the very straight laced Hospital administrator, Mr. Bent and the new Director of Operations, Virginia “Ginger” Crawford, the woman he loved and left in an ugly breakup 9 years ago while they were both still at school. He left her for her own good but he’s never quite been able to put her behind him. She’s unfinished business of the worst – or maybe the best – kind, and to get the job, he’ll have to win her over and make her see the truth; that he’s the best qualified person to head the ER. Given the past, both their mutual one and the dark secrets from his youth that he’s been hiding, that could be a very tall order, especially since secrets rarely stay hidden when you live in a small town in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Covington crafts larger than life heroes and heroines. They’re bold, brash, sassy and passionate but, like most of us, they’re far from perfect. They carry the deep scars of past experience that make them vulnerable, unpredictable and oh so interesting. Beck and Ginger are all that and more. Add to that Covington’s careful attention to good storytelling and her ability to weave contemporary issues like street drugs, organized crime and at risk youth into the fabric of a second chances romance make this an interesting and thoroughly enjoyable read.

I’m a little bummed that this is likely to be the conclusion of her Southern Nights series, but I look forward to new and equally compelling reads from her next series.

Robin Covington offers up a hot, sultry Southern second chance romance in Southern Nights andatruegemaward Secrets and I loved it. A ruggedly handsome ER doctor whose past comes back to bite him in his smackable a$$ (okay Robin doesn’t call it that but in my imagination he has one) and the woman whose heart he broke 9 years ago and now holds his future in her hands. Secrets, lies, self doubt threaten to keep them apart, but the chemistry and feelings between them keep them in a constant state of motion, the only question can they go forward or do they admit defeat and move on?
Dr. Beckett Sutherland is known as one of the best ER doctors around, but he’s also known as a loose cannon, an adrenaline junkie, and a womanizer. No one can discount his medical prowess or the fact that he has a great bedside manner in and out of the hospital , but his extracurricular activities makes the board of directors nervous and threatens his appointment as team leader in the ER especially when he realizes the one woman who has ever made him feel anything and the one he screwed over royally will be on the committee to appoint him.
Virginia “Ginger” Crawford can’t believe her bad luck when she discovers Beck in her hospital. She lands her dream job of Director of Operations and now has to deal with a man from her past that did a royal number on her. She knows she can be professional, but she can’t help the way that Beck still affects her even after all these years.
It was interesting watching both Beck and Ginger try to fight off their attraction and feelings for one another especially when it is so obvious they want one another. I did appreciate that Ginger quickly saw the other side of Beck; the side that started a charity to help disadvantaged youths find their way and he allowed her to see where he came from and why he does all he can to help people. I liked that through Beck we learned a bit about Ginger’s background, but I would have like to know her a bit more. I felt like by the time this book ended, we saw the whole Beck; what makes him tick, why he reacts the way he does, and his feelings of unworthiness. While the sexiness factor was off the charts between these two and there was no doubting they both had some feelings, but I would have liked a bit more real conversation between them about the here and now and not just about the past.
Just like the ER that the hero works in Robin Covington’s Southern Nights and Secrets is fast paced, exciting, and a bit dangerous add that to the combustible chemistry between the main characters and you have a winner of a romance.

This book contained somethings that I hate reading about. So I ended up DNF it unfortunately. I have loved the previous books in the series though.
