WOW! If you enjoy romantic suspense, look no further, this story epitomises the best of the genre. It is a fast paced, action packed story with characters it is easy to relate to and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing till the dramatic conclusion and is complete with a side serving of romance!

Eden Collins escaped from Clear Springs, Montana a decade ago, becoming an FBI agent. Her mother, Martha, is the somewhat charismatic leader of a cult, loosely based on the story of Demeter and Persephone, established near the township. Eden never intended to return but was sent a photograph of a young lady who had been murdered and the victim has cult tattoos that she recognises. Local Sheriff, Zach Owens, isn't quite sure what to make of Eden's unexpected return, the timing and how she obtained the victim's photograph. However, he also knows that it will be difficult for him or any other law enforcement agent to gain admittance to the cult personnel or grounds - and Eden could be his way in, if he can trust her.

Exploring aspects of the control and manipulation of followers, the insular nature of cults and difficulties when things start to go wrong, this is an enthralling, thrilling read that I just didn't want to put down. The back history of key characters is explored, the dialogue brings them to life and you can really feel the drama and angst. With a serial killer on the loose and suggestions that Eden is their planned ultimate victim, this is a real roller-coaster ride, one that you don't want to get off until the perpetrator(s) have been stopped! I loved this and have no hesitation in highly recommending it to other people who enjoy suspense filled romantic reads!

I was gifted a copy of this novel via NetGalley and this is my honest review after reading it.

5 Suspenseful Stars!!!

I have been reading Ms. Robert's work from the very beginning and I always know that I'm in for a great story no matter what the genre of the book. And The Devil's Daughter is another prime example of what a phenomenal author she is! This book isn't like any of her other books in that it is a true thriller from beginning to end throwing in a steamy sizzling romance between our H/h Zach and Eden and it's like the trifecta of winning!!!

When Eden has to return home to expose the cult that her mother is a leader of because women's dead bodies keep showing up with the same tattoos that she herself was marked with I just knew that this was going to be a wild ride. This is of course due to the way Ms. Roberts weaved an amazing story.

As I turned each page I was more and more invested in this book and finding out the who's and the why's. I mean there's some really crazy stuff going on in this world that Eden used to live in... the only difference this time is that Sheriff Zach Owens is there and together they're going to solve this mystery and potentially find their own HEA.

This story kept me present and accounted for throughout the entire book. The pace and story development moved at the exact rate it should have. There was no rushing around or over the top scenes. All the actions and reactions of the characters fell right in line for the way this story was crafted. I'm so glad we have another genre to read from this amazing author and I for one will be first in line for the next book in this series!

4.5*

THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER is my first Katee Robert book-- and if she keeps writing romantic suspense (her backlist is all contemporary romance), it definitely won’t be my last! For a newbie RS author, Ms. Robert delivers a well-written, gripping page-turner with three-dimensional characters that are equal parts terrifyingly disturbing (the villains and antagonists at Elysia) and engaging survivors (protagonists Eden and Zach). Centering the story around a reclusive cult predicated on the Greek myth of Demeter (embodied by iron-willed and power-hungry matriarch Martha Collins) and Persephone (personified by Martha’s reluctant prodigal daughter, FBI Behavioural Analysis Unit Agent Eden Collins) is genius, as it immediately lends THE DEVIL’S DAUGHTER an inherent layer of deception and secrecy that draws the reader in from the outset. Ms. Robert drops you in the thick of the action from the first page and doesn’t lift the foot off the accelerator until the very end as she whisks you through a series of intense twists and turns you will not see coming, all while building the romance between Eden and Zach.

Overall, a tautly-paced, suspenseful, and intricate murder mystery sure to keep you on your toes and at the edge of your seat. Looking forward to the next entry in the Hidden Sins series, and what else Ms. Robert brings to the RS table!

Eden Collins was fortunate enough to escape her mother's cult and go on to become a great profiler with the FBI. But when she receives an emailed picture of a girl found murdered in what is clearly a ritualistic fashion, she's forced to go home again to Clear Springs, while trying not to be sucked back into the life she tried so hard to escape.

Clear Springs Sheriff Zach Owens has enough on his plate trying to find a murderer. The last thing he needs is the daughter of a cult leader / suspect on his doorstep trying to tell him what to do. But one look at Eden lets Zach know that she's no more involved in this than he is. And it's taken a hell of a lot of courage for her to come back after ten years considering everything she went through. But soon evidence points to the fact that maybe the reason why Eden was pulled back was because she's exactly where the killer wants her to be. They'll need to figure this mystery out before it's too late.

Right away I really loved the whole mystery / creepy cult storyline. The way everything twists and turns, truly implicated everyone. I kinda wish it was a bit more eerie and twisting though because I was pretty sure I knew the murderer before the end, but even when that theory was thrown for a slight loop (because I wasn't completely wrong in my assumptions), I still wasn't shocked by who the killer turned out to be. I would have loved to be completely blindsided. But regardless, the mystery and figuring out who was behind the killings really drove me to keep reading.

Now, the romance aspect was a little harder for me to swallow. The insta-love that happens just didn't work for me. For all that I liked both Zach and Eden, and I liked them together, the quick way Zach turns around and decides he's actually attracted to Eden, as opposed to considering her a possible suspect, just happened too quickly for me. I would have liked a little more build-up first.

I thought that Katee Robert did a great job is representing the struggle Eden is going through by returning to Clear Springs. Easy to see how difficult being back in her hometown, back to a place with such bad memories for her. Eden's character kind of straddles the line between being a badass FBI agent and a woman going through an emotional crisis. We're told that Eden is good at her job, and for all intents and purposes I believe this statement, but when it comes to being objective toward the cult that raised her, you can definitely see she has a tough time with that, but she's still able to pull out the fight when needed. And that's what Katee Robert wrote so well. She didn't make Eden infallible, she made her human.

By that extension, Eden's mother, and cult leader, Martha Collins is quite the character as well. The ulterior motives and the secrets beneath the surface weren't so simple to pick out that she became this caricature. Instead you really want to believe that she loves Eden as her daughter and not as some kind of symbol, but then you second guess yourself about her. She's definitely one you don't want to turn your back on, or get on their bad side because you're never quite sure what she'll do or how far her sinister reaches. Another great, yet subtle characterization.

I'm not sure if there is a plan for this or if this one is truly just a standalone. Overall, I enjoyed the story. I wouldn't be upset to read more books featuring Eden as I think there's still a lot of growth her character could go through.

FBI Agent Eden Collins never expected to return to the home she escaped years ago - the small town of Clear Springs and Elysia, a cult led by her mother Martha Collins. Eden still has nightmares of growing up under the power and control of a cult that did not provide the simple, happy life it promised. Eden knows the evil secrets concealed behind those walls all too well as she still bears the ritualistic cult tattoos upon her skin and still remembers how they were forced on her as she struggled screaming. Now Eden's been lured back to Elysia by an emailed picture of a dead girl bearing an eery resemblance to her - one bearing the same tattoos on her tortured skin. Who sent her the picture? What do they want from her? Will she survive a trip back inside those walls?

Sheriff Zach Owens, former Marine, accepted a job in Clear Springs trying to escape his own nightmares in a small town where nothing ever happens. And now, he's suddenly faced with the task of hunting down a serial killer. His gut says it's all tied to the cult . . . it also tells him to be wary of the cult leader's daughter Eden who mysteriously showed back up in town just after the first murder - the same daughter he's strangely attracted to. Can he trust her? Is he willing to risk her life to stop a killer?

The Devil's Daughter is a chilling read with twists and turns that kept me turning the pages well into the night. The Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone plays out during the story as the cult beliefs are woven around a version of the myth . . . one that includes Eden playing the part of Persephone. Intriguing characters, smoke screens, and chilling stop-your-heart moments keep the suspense high as this story plays out. I had formed an idea of who was or more accurately who wasn't involved in the killings, but I in no way saw the shocking conclusion before hand. The Devil's Daughter is a gritty, well-written mystery suspense and a great start to this series. A Must Read!

The Devil's Daughter was a very suspenseful read that had me guessing throughout the book. I love it when the author spins a very intricate story and has me on the edge of my seat. What I enjoyed most about this book was the setting of the story. I am a huge fan of books that focus on cults, because they are forbidden and mysterious and add something extra to the story. I was constantly trying to figure out what role the cult members were playing in the killings. I was just like the main characters, Zach and Eden, trying to solve the case. Everyone had a motive but who is actually doing the killing?

I had many theories and suspects in mind and the author did a great job at derailing me and surprising me at the end. I enjoyed the chemistry between Zach and Eden and how well they worked together to find out who was behind these horrible crimes. Eden is a strong woman who had been through a lot in her past, her mother being the cult leader had done a real number on her. Zach as well had gone through traumatic events in his past. They were two broken people who sought comfort in each other. The murder investigation was very intriguing and mysterious.

The Devil's Daughter was a great suspenseful romance book. I especially loved the setting and seeing as this is the first book in the Hidden Sins series, I hope the next book will focus on the cult as well. The only thing that I didn't like as much was the ending of this book. It had an open ending on the romance front. As a huge lover of HEA, I really enjoy an epilogue. But hey I can't always get what I want. Definitely pick this book up if you love mysterious romantic suspense novels.

Excellent read. Thought I knew who the killer was gonna be but was a little off the mark!

I'm giving this fab book 5 devilish stars!!!

Katee Robert kicks off a new series and let me say this, take a deep breath before you begin this book because once you start it, you won’t be able to take a full one till you are done.

I’ve been huge fan of this author since her first book and when I heard that she was going to branch out into a new genre, I was all hells yeah! Just hand it over and nobody gets hurt. What I didn’t expect (and how stupid of me) was to become completely obsessed with this book. I loved it. I couldn’t carve enough time out of my day to read this fast enough. Hello re-read as soon as I get the chance. Yes it’s that good.

If you love twisty, darker suspense with some romance thrown in then THIS is your next book. It will leave you pointing the finger of blame at half the characters, wanting the others to be innocent and have you gasping WHOA when all is revealed. I know I totally did not see that coming.

When you have a mysterious cult, the cult leader’s daughter who escaped years ago but suddenly returns, dead bodies of young girls turning up in quiet town and a sheriff who protects his own, you know without a doubt that you are in for a storyline that will drag you in without you realising it and keep you there to see what happens next.

The fact that the author does it so effortlessly, is truly a gift that she showcases in The Devil’s Daughter. Now I’ve had taste, I want more. I’m not going to give a single spoiler away because you need to experience this book, there is no better way of describing it. Just dive in and don’t look back.

Katee Robert jumped into a new genre in style with this book, without a doubt. She has once again proven why she’s an auto buy author for me no matter what she writes.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book via Netgalley for review from the publisher.

This book is a bit of a challenge for me. I picked it up and put it down several times. I even tried to read another book to clear my head and try again. But I think for me, the main problem was that the flow of the story felt off. For one thing, I really needed more background on Eden's childhood. It was such a pivotal part of the book, and yet I felt very confused about the cult. I needed to know more, to fully understand what they believed in and what Eden went through. Parts were explained, but most was hinted at, and that meant I had to drawing my own conclusions. Normally this is fine, but in such a complex book, I needed more help. The other issue was the romance. Honestly, I feel that the romance took away from the story. The chemistry was just not there, even in the end. I would have preferred a straight crime story, rather than a mystery romance. It didn't feel authentic but forced. This author is obviously very talented, but this book did not work for me.

This is the first book I have read by Katee Robert and I can't wait o read more by this romantic suspense author.
Katee Robert as the ability to create a wall balanced romantic suspense story all the while having readers desiring to know more about Eden and the zealot cult she was raised in.
The Devil's Daughter is a balancing out the dark with the romance between the two leads in this story it was Zach and Eden.
Katee ability to weave a story that will keep readers guessing until the end of the story who is the killer was perfection in every way.
Once you start his book you will not be able to put it down. Make sure you read it with the lights on.

What a great book! Starting from the first page I wanted to follow Eden to learn why she returned home. The cult story line was so different then anything I've read in awhile. A cult, a serial killer and two great main characters with just the right amount of suspense was a very enjoyable read.I hope there will be a sequel to this book.

Reasons I loved The Devil's Daughter:

1. Eden works for the BAU and that is hella cool.
2. I find cults fascinating!
3. While I did guess the killer, I didn't quite get it right either.

The Devil's Daughter is honestly a unique read. When you read 300 books a year like I do, you don't often get to say that! Eden grew up the daughter of a cult leader and left as soon as she turned 18. Now she specializes in understanding cults and their leaders while working for the FBI. There is the murder mystery aspect to the plot, and there is a romance aspect as well (but this is secondary). As a reader, you are constantly wondering who would do such a heinous thing in this tiny town? Could it be the obvious cult leader? Is it possible its a total stranger? Eden's mother is manipulative and conniving on a whole different level so you know that even if she isn't the killer, she is by no means innocent of crimes! You get the sense that even when Eden and Zack figure out who the killer is, the cult will still exist and that it will still be dangerous. What made this book chilling is you get to see the psychological influence of a cult.

If you want romance, this story is a bit light on that. While there is romance and sex, it is certainly the secondary story. If you like psychological thriller type stories, The Devil's Daughter is a great pick.

There’s something about Katee Robert’s books, and her writing, that just calls to me.

This story was a little different to what I’ve read from the author before. Whilst there is still a romance blossoming slowly between the key protagonists, Sheriff Zach Owens and FBI Agent, Eden Collins, this book was more focused on the mystery, intrigue and suspense of the storyline.

Let me tell you, the title of this book captures the story perfectly. Eden is quite possibly the devil’s daughter. Brought up in a cult commune run by her mother, Martha, Eden has been mentally and physically abused and forced to play along with her mother’s wish to portray her as Persephone, a character from Greek mythology which the cult focuses its beliefs on. In playing this part, her mother subjected her to cruel and tortuous practices and rituals. Now she has escaped her mother’s clutches and is working for the FBI. Thinking she is free of her past, she is brought up short when she receives an image of a dead girl, marked with her tatoos, found in her home town. Eden knows that against her best intentions, she must return to Clear Springs to find out exactly what is going on, and to face her mother.

Zach needs all of the help he can get with one girl dead and another missing but when Eden arrives, with evidence of the death, he is immediately suspicious. Why would she return to Clear Springs now unless she had something to do with the murder?

The pair soon joins forces though and work together to find out exactly who is targeting the young girls in the town and to find out exactly what Martha has to do with their disappearances. With their close working relationship, the pair tries, in vain, to ignore the growing feelings that they have for one another.

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and I didn’t see the ending coming, at all. Whilst the content is sensitive in nature, it is handling carefully and not overly gratuitous. The inclusion of Persephone was another brilliant addition to the storyline which added, even more, intrigue when trying to understand the minds of the cult and its leaders.

Overall, a highly recommended story and one to keep you wondering, just who is the killer at large?

Ms. Robert usually writes hot and steamy, but this is totally opposite. We have murder, a cult and small town police along with a side of horrible childhood memories. One of the best suspenseful books I've read in a while. Just when you think you can figure out who's killing young girls in some ritualistic manner you get redirected. Her interwoven clues were subtle and I never put it together until the end. If you enjoy an edge of your seat thrill ride with an edge of sexual tension this is your next fix. I wrote this review voluntarily after reading an advanced copy.

The Devil's Daughter is Katee Robert's brand new romantic suspense following Eden Collins as she returns to her hometown. For her it's not a happy visit and all the town of Clear Springs brings her are bad memories. Now an FBI agent, Eden has returned to finally expose her mothers cult as the evil it really is and prove that the cult had something to do with the disappearance and death of two young women. With the help of the towns Sheriff, Zach Owens, she sets off to catch the person murdering these girls and marking them with the same tattoo's Eden herself was once marked with.

From the very start of this book I was invested in finding out the mysteries these pages held. There were twists at every page turn and I liked that this story was able to keep me on my toes. The characters were great to read about and I liked that they weren't too focused on. Instead of wasting time trying to get to know everything about Zach and Eden we were thrown right into murder and suspense, which I thought was perfect. All of the characters still had a good development and kept me intrigued, but my main focus was on finding out how the story was going to end.

I found Katee Roberts ability to write such an intense suspense, yet keep a good amount of romance in the mix, captivating. She wrote everything in such a way that I was constantly wondering what was going to happen, both in the investigation and in Eden's personal life. This is very different from the other books I've read by her but I thoroughly enjoyed the change and hope she'll write more in the Romantic Suspense genre. Overall, I recommend this book for any mystery lovers and will warn you to make sure you start when you will have time to read the whole book at once. Trust me, you won't want to put this down once you start.

This book kept me guessing to the end. I loved the suspense and the romance of this book. It wasn't over the top on either one. It focused on the story and did't try to overshadow it with unneeded scenes. It was a great balance. Some places did feel thin but over all I loved it. It was a unique story line and one I had never come across yet. The author obviously did a lot of research and it shows in the great details in the story. Her writing brought the comune to life in my mind. This book had characters I loved to hate and those are always the best kind and it had those that make you want to hold them and tell them it will be ok. Then there are those you want to slap silly and say wake up! This is a great book to get lost in. I would recommend it.

No one beats Persephone indefinitely. Not Demeter, not mankind, and sure as hell not Hades.
That my friends was a goose bump moment.
Eden Collins swore that she would never go back to Clear Springs and the cult Elysia where she grew up with her mother being the cult leader. She against her will has been lured back to a murder where the victim looks similar to her in so many ways. Now a strong, sassy and independent woman she has been working for the FBI specifically the BAU.
Zach Owens former Marine now Sheriff in Clear Springs moved to the small town to get away from the nightmares and enjoy the peace. That is until his deputy finds a dead girl with ritualistic markings on her body.
Against Eden’s better judgement she gets unofficially involved with the investigation and the more they try and find out about it all the more questions arise. It is a game of cat and mouse with the killer being at least two steps ahead of them.
At the beginning they reluctantly work together, Zach can’t quite trust her yet what with the coincidence of a body turning up and then Eden coming into town.
Martha and her inner circle are well indoctrination, religious zealots the whole shebang. There are ties to the cult but Martha is blocking them at every turn.
The author did a fantastic job of spinning a gripping tale of taking a Greek myth the story of Demeter & Persephone and making it the focal point of the cult. Of the fanatical religious zealot with added mystery, suspenseful and had me on pins & needles with horrifying moments that made me want to stop reading.
But I did continue reading and there were times where it was tough going. But in the end? Certainly worth it.
I will read the second when it comes out. Please hurry up.
