Eisenbrandt takes the reader everywhere, from deep into the madness of pre-civil war El Salvador, to the roots of the conflict, from start to finish of the the court case that struggled to achieve a modicum of justice for those affected by the bloodshed, and most touchingly of all, into the mind and soul of the man who bravely stood for all that was just and decent until his life was abruptly cut short by an assassin's bullet. This book captures the many troubles of a long-suffering nation and its veritable patron saint all at once, and should be a must-read for anyone who happens to come across it sitting on a shelf.
