This is a very detailed book. It includes information on extraction methods, absolutes, and hydrosols. He also includes the historical uses of essential oils. There is a quote Robert Tisserand, who is the master of safety in the world of aromatherapy. He also references the NAHA, the national association for holistic aromatherapy. I was very happy to read the author’s advice not to take essential oils internally. Part Two of the book details individual essential oils and their uses. Part Three includes recipes for blending.
The author has a lot of useful information on how essential oils can heal various conditions, but the sacred uses and alternative methods that involve such aspects as chakra, astrological and charms are not for me.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy. This is my honest opinion.
So helpful. There is a ton of information here that is easy to navigate. I love how it starts as a great tool for beginners and works its way up...advising and recommending where to go next.
this is a great reference book for anyone interested in using oils for healing.
There are some great recipes and ideas and discussions on what and how to use them.
I highly recommend
This provides a great framework for using essential oils, to take someone from total beginner to more advanced uses and methods with essential oils. It provides descriptions of how to use each oil, what to be careful of, ages and life-stages to use caution, how to combine them and dilute them safely and more. The author is clearly passionate about her subject and very knowledgeable. I will use this as a reference as I get my feet wet with essential oils and seek to use them more frequently for health and wellness in my family.
Thank you Netgalley for my review copy.
I am a fully qualified Aromatherapist and Holistic & Sports Massage Therapist and so, have seen quite a few of these types of books. Nevertheless, this one gets my high approval due to the amount of descriptive research it has with it. The guide itself is informative yet not too detailed to be confusing. It has been a great addition to my collection and it will be one that I will go back to for advice.
Llewellyn Publications does it again.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Healing Art of Essential Oils by, Kac Young, PhD, is a comprehensive, well-organized, highly-researched, and documented book that focuses on the benefits of using essential oils. In addition, it is equally accessible to both novice and expert users. The author's smooth and friendly prose creates a pleasant reading experience for all.
This book is a perfect match for loyal Llewellyn fans since it links oil usage with astrological healing, chakra healing, massage therapy, and the creation of charms and talismans. She also includes ritual uses.
In a time when just about every ache or anxiety has been medicalized and monetized by the medical establishment, the potential benefits of using essential oils may be more compelling than ever. Young is careful to state that essential oils are not a replacement for standard medical care, but she does show how they can enhance standard care and possibly prevent a need for such care. She carefully includes cautions and safety tips, and even translates uses into child-safe forms.
Young's book is extremely user friendly. It begins with a table of contents that connects to all the essential oils included in the book. The text is thoroughly footnoted. In addition, she ends with a glossary and an index that includes oils and potential uses. She also includes a list of internet sources and a comprehensive bibliography so that readers may expand their search for important information. All are hyperlinked in the Kindle edition.
Young begins by explaining what essential oils are, their histories, and how they are created. All the essential oils documented are separated into three sections so that beginners can master their own learning process in a way that makes sense.
Each essential oil has its own section that lists aspects such as its Latin, French, and Spanish name, and often included are its gender and ruling planet. Next explained are its properties, benefits, background, and uses. One of the most helpful sections includes over one hundred recipes that combine multiple oils that magnify each other's healing or life-changing potential. Subjects range from simple "relaxation" to the ever-popular concern: "weight loss."
Anyone interested in learning to use essential oils should seriously consider adding The Healing Art of Essential Oils to their library. It will no doubt become their most-reached-for resource.

I found this to be a good read for natural remedies. As someone who is just getting in to trying essential oils I am gobbling up all the books I can on the subject.
The essential oils and their uses. I was surprised to read about the numerous uses of each oil. Each use of the oil are explained well.
All the information you need to use Essential Oils.
I’ve used essential oils for years. For massage, to increase concentration, to help me sleep and I thought I knew quite a bit about oils and their unique qualities and how to blend certain oils to gain the best results. However, after reading this book, I’ve come to realise that in fact, I knew nothing! (And it’s going to take reading this book several times over to fully appreciate it)
Kac Young PhD has written THE BOOK on Essential Oils. Taking us back centuries to understand how civilisation in the past used them. Their importance in helping the prevention of diseases and their powerful use as healing agents.
Often with modern medicine, we overlook something as valuable as Essential Oils. In this book, you will learn how to blend various oils for maximum benefits in helping in help in healing both the body and the mind and spirit.
If you are even vaguely interested in Essential Oils, then I would recommend that this is the ONE book you need in your library. Kac Young has put all her years of research and interest in oils inside these pages. A truly excellent book.

This is one of my first books by Dr. Kac Young and to say I was impressed, is an understatement. When I saw the book on Net Galley I couldn't really wait ... So, I requested an ARC I was extremely glad when it was approved. I am really grateful and thank the publishers and the author for the opportunity to read this book.
I am into Alternative Medicine from the time I was in school ... I had a brush with an eminent Naturopath, Acupuncturist and Spiritual Healer when I was 13 and have never looked back ... It was this doctor's influence in my life that prompted me to take up Alternative Medicine more seriously and become qualified for practice.
I had my real brush with Aromatherapy when I was stuck with Trigeminal Neuralgia and to my dismay absolutely NOTHING helped me! Being an Acupunturist myself and gearing up to be a Naturopath, I was really disappointed, dismayed and depressed to say the least ,when something that helped most did not help me! Imagine my horror that I can't even help myself! when I should be out there helping and treating other people? I even met other Acupuncturists & Alternative Medicine practitioners in a desperate bid to see if maybe someone else could help without bias. But NO - nothing worked!
I was really depressed and got my answers in prayers and that's how I tried Aromatherapy again five years back for TN. Needless to say, it really worked and my life is a lot better ever since I learnt about this wonderful treatment method again ... I am almost normal and able to lead a fairly normal and happy life, all things considered.
So, I have read my fair share of books on Aromatherapy and met or spoken to eminent practitioners of this healing system. This is by far one among the best books I have read on the subject - a comprehensive and thorough guide on Aromatherapy in layman's terms with detailed description on the oils and uses, along with a guide on how to blend and use the oils. It is a book that will be useful to a layman, just as much it will help an Aromatherapy enthusiast, or even a homemaker who just wants to adopt a natural way to heal, or an Aromatherapist!
If you want a detailed guide on Aromatherapy and become an expert in the subject, so you can come up with your own remedies, this is one of the books you must read! I absolutely love how Dr. Kac has written this book in a way that's easy to understand for everyone, given detailed information and the section of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Notes ... and also the recipe section that has extremely useful and effective blends.
