Light is a wordless graphic novel about a brave character who seeks colorful crystals to bring color back to the world. It reminded me a bit of Steven Universe. A quick, cute story with many imaginative creatures and settings.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
A very beautiful, very strange little book. Cham's use of light is truly stunning, and the simple but somehow complex plot took my breath away.
There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.
A fabulous book that provokes many feelings. No words needed for this story. I picked this book up and shared it with my girls.
Haunting and beautiful, such a thought provoking story!
This wonderfully illustrated book uses no words to tell the story of a little adventurer seeking a special collection of stones. Our adventurer knows not what the collection will bring, just that its elder sent it on its way. The illustrations are amazing. The illustrator uses light and dark, and just the right amount of color to lead the reader on an amazing trip. Perfect for any age.
A very interesting tale with great artwork. I liked how the colours of the illustrations changed according to the progress of the story. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
This was so absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
The artwork was amazing - the way Cham used light and shadow... it was breathtaking!
I'm definitely looking forward to more from Cham!
This is such an adorable book. I didn't know about the existence of silent comics, so it was cool to experience it. Surprisingly, the lack of words does not make it hard to understand the plot. The characters are so cute and the art is beautiful. I enjoyed reading (viewing?) it.
The art and use of color in Light is really vibrant and colorful, which made for an enjoyable story. I also loved that it didn't really need words at all to tell the story too.
I was recently offered the opportunity to review the new graphic novel, Light. Written and drawn by Rob Cham, it is the story of a cute little character on a quest to find the treasure at the end of a treasure map he was given. Along the way he battles some monsters and makes some friends to try and accomplish this goal.
It took me a couple pages to really get into Light. The artwork is rather simplistic at the beginning, and occasionally made it a little difficult to understand what was happening. As the story progressed, however, I became quite hooked! The artwork very deliberately progresses with the story and I found myself as enthralled by the artwork as I was rooting for the little unnamed protagonist we were following. The fact that there are no words, and the story is completely told through the artwork makes it even more fascinating.
Light has the feeling of a very classic story. While this is not your typical graphic novel, it is one that I greatly enjoyed and highly recommend.
