Sometimes it's so hard to teach small children (preschoolers and lower elementary) how to reach beyond their agenda of the moment to show kindness to others. This darling book helps such children see kindness played out in many, many ways. I was interested in reading this because of having been a figure skating fan, but I simply adore the book for what it is. The illustrations are sweet and colorful, using a wide variety of animals as characters. Simple, repetitive plot line (perfect for preschoolers and early readers) -- Cara helps someone, who helps another, who helps another, eventually leading back to someone showing Cara a kindness. Children need to know, though that the circle of kindness may not always be so easily discerned or come so quickly. But helping children plant seeds of kindness everywhere will help them eventually recognize kindnesses shown to them.
I gratefully received this book as an eARC for free from the author, the publishers, and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.
