Just couldn't get into the book...I read of the book and everytime I tried I just lost interest. It does have a good mystery to it.
The beautiful cover and the intriguing blurb made me curious about the book. I love reading books about estranged sisters, secrets in the past and I especially I love books set in small towns. The title The Sisters of Blue Mountain also intrigue me very much.
I took me, to be honest, quite some time to get into the book. It just didn't feel that intriguing as I had hoped it to be and first did I have a hard time connecting with the characters. However, I did not give up and I'm glad to say that the book got better. Still, the story is a bit predictable, the secret not so surprising and the conclusion on the death of the professor was predictable. Still, I did come to like the book more and more as the story progressed.
What made the story interesting was the bond between the sister, Linnet, and Myna, and the shared secret that in the end came to drive them apart. Growing up with a mother that was depressed was hard on them, and Linnet did in many ways become Myna's mother. And, now with the death of the snow geese's is Myna returning home for the first time in five years and it's interesting to see how the sisters because of everything that's going on have to deal with the past. I loved both the present story on how they have to cope with everything that's going on as through flashbacks the past is revealed.
The Sisters of Blue Mountain did not start off strong, but in the end, it was a book that I came to enjoy reading!
I enjoyed reading this book about a family who owns a B&B that is now being run and lived in by the oldest sister and her family as the mother is deceased and the father is too old.
It's the time of year when the geese migrate which attracts a lot of tourists, good business for the B&B. However, something is killing the geese and they are dropping dead out of the sky with hundreds everywhere. Not good for business, what's going on? Dad is starting to deal with dementia and a younger professor has taken his place at the university who just happens to end up dead in the backyard of the B&B. Did Dad do it?
The younger sister comes back home to help deal with things and a reporter comes to town dredging up a long ago secret that the sisters want to keep hidden.
Lots of suspense and mystery kept me glued to the pages and trying to figure out what this secret could be and just who killed the professor? Everybody's trying to hide a little something from everybody and they each hold a little piece of the puzzle. Getting those pieces together and seeing the big picture make this story very entertaining, enjoyable and an interesting read.
Thanks to St. Martin for approving my request and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

I read Karen Katchur in the past and have loved her books so I was excited to see another book by her. I dove right in and didn't look back!
Linnet is the owner of a B&B in Mountain Springs Pennsylvania. She has hit a rough patch I her life when hundreds of snow geese have died in a near by dam. This is sparking a negative media frenzy which is putting a damper on the upcoming tourist season! Then to makes matter worse her estranged sister returns. Then on the crappy downward spiral of Linnet's father becomes a primary suspect in a murder!
As this story escalates the sister are forced to uncover some secrets of both their pasts.
Karen writes an honest, moving and fast pace book! I was hooked very early and stayed interested until the end. I'm saying this way early (ESP after finally getting a snow storm) but this book will be perfect for the beach!!
This was an enjoyable book about family and the secrets they keep. This was also a mystery that kept me turning the pages to find out how the story will end. This is a story about two sisters who are from Blue Mountain PA who have kept a secret for a decade that has torn them apart. They come together again as their Dad is losing his memory and needs their help. The secret they have kept for years to keep their family from falling apart will come back to haunt them. The author does a great job of developing this story while using great description of this part of the country. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
