I was on a wild ride the first 30%. The middle of the book dragged with the only highlight being Carter Diamond and Mecca. The ending was obvious and rushed. Sad to say I'm not a fan of this story. It read like a novella to book 1 not a full length novel. There's so much I want to say about Frenchie and Kane. I saw that a mile away too. I was just waiting. It was implied, and almost spoken. Mo and Basil kin? Gross!

Not mentioning the clique back in the day and no one having a clue. Kane not helping his old friend Frenchie and her son out the first time is questionable with him supposedly being such a good guy. There are too many plausible situations and rolling of my eyes at the plot for me.

Quick late night thoughts

4.5 stars

Thanks to St Martin's press and NetGalley I was able to receive a copy of this book for review.

Jaquavis Coleman has done it again. I loved this book. There were names from past reads that were easily recognized as well as new people I hope show up in future reads. Basil started out as a kid but was definitely a man by the end of the book. He started out picking up drugs for his addicted mother and ended up in a very different position. Being mentored by Kane Garrett changed his life.

The anticipation of a Jaquavis Coleman and an Ashley Jaquavis book is always high. After reading this its even higher. Whatever comes next I'll be reading.

I've never been a fan of urban fiction, but this is one of the few authors that might change that perspective. I enjoyed this read. Basil is a known cocaine hustler. He ends up being mentored by Kane Garrett after a 7 year prison bid. While being mentored, he falls in love with Kane's daughter, Moriah, and the drama that happens made this an enjoyable read that makes me want to read it again. Very well written and enjoyable.

I loved this book. I would give it a solid rating of a 5/5. I enjoyed the plot, it was exciting as usual. Very interesting. I liked the twist that JaQuavis added to the traditional story of the D-boy on the comeup. Although I would've liked to have seen more of the love story aspect, I still appreciated it. I also liked the fact that they continue to tell their own narratives about Flint, Michigan. It is so important that we hear first person perspectives from people who have lived there and experienced it. This was the first of his solo novels that I actually enjoyed. Definitely a winner. One that I would repurchase on my own!

Whewwwww!!!! This book right here. What can I say? This book has it all, action, suspense, betrayal. Kane rules the streets of Flint, Mi. He has his right hand man, Fat Rat who has his back. Basil is a young kid when Kane comes in contact and takes him under his wing. The book starts off with a bang and never lets you go. Twists and turns abound. Oh, and did I mention Carter Diamond and Meech makes appearances? And the ending!!!! Omg, I will never look at warthogs the same again. Get your favorite drink, get in your favorite chair and fasten your seatbelt. You are in for a wild ride!!! Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the advanced reading copy in return for my honest review.
