Sweet, sweet, sweet….
Whew – this is another sizzler from an author who knows how to right MFM sexy! I loved Stevie. She was having a really bad day that turned into something amazingly good. When they say you get what you need when you aren’t looking for it? That is what Reid and Dylan were. Strong, handsome, successful – and knew how to treat a lady right. The heat and chemistry between them was hot and steamy yet the emotions that eventually caught them all up was what made this read spectacular!
I don't like to give below three stars, but I just could not connect with this one. Carew is a new author to me, and this one didn't do it for me, but I will give her another shot. I felt the characters and plot were unbelievable. The sex scenes were just blah. I love a good sex scene, but I didn't get it with this one. Like I said just because this wasn't my cup of tea doesn't mean it is for someone else.
I went in expecting something and at the end what I got was better. I did not read the synopsis or anything. Main reason being that this was Opal Carew. That means the book will be good. At least that is what I have leaned about Opal Carew's books.
This was the same as the other books as only that I was satisfied at the end of the Book.
If you're into Fifty Shades then look no further- this book is for you..
This is the story of Stevie, a cab driver who caught her boyfriend cheating and finds herself homeless.. she picks up Reid one evening, the two get to talking although this is what confuses me though- how did she pick up right away that he was a billionaire? He didn't say anything so was he supposed to be someone famous? Anyways, a couple of minutes after, she pulls up into an alley and they have animal sex! yep- that's how i describe it..
Cut next scene she meets Dylan who happens to be the best friend of Reid.. She falls into insta lust with Dylan too although this guy is the complete opposite of Reid.. Again she picks up that Dylan is a billionaire.. Okay now hold on one second- does this woman have a billionaire radar or something?? am i missing out on something?
Anyways like i said, if you like Fifty Shades this book is for you, if it's not, then totally skip this one...
ARC provided by NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Ms. Opal Carew
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
So I enjoyed this one...but I had some issues. First of all, I don't think we got enough back story on a lot of the characters, especially Reid and Dylan. Not to mention the fact that Jon and Derrick were just kind of thrown in there so Stevie had a support system. Second, and this one is mostly mine and spoilery so skip this sentence, I should have realized that this was going to reference An Affair to Remember...I feel like a bonehead for just realizing that now.
My last and biggest issue is the fact that I feel like Dylan was used. We got no information about him and for all intents and purposes, they might have gotten a toy instead. They didn't give any thought to his feelings in the matter, which just made me sad for him.
Also, is this a thing? I was not expecting two such hetero guys to go for what Stevie was thinking. Made it feel like homosexuality is a choice...
Overall the sex scenes were hot, but I wanted a little more heart with my spice.
I voluntarily read and advanced review copy of this book
This book was very good it had many twists and turns that you never would have expected. I loved the dynamics between the couple and the heat that they bring to every page. Very good job Opal!
This was a very steamy book about testing one's boundaries for both love, self-preservation, and among all else, belief in one's self. I loved the characters and how well they blended into the story and how all of them seemed to be battling their own demons in one way or another.
Not my favorite book of all time, but definitely worth the read! I loved the ending and was happy for the resolution, as my heart broke along with the characters at various points throughout the story.
This was one of my favourite Opal Carew novels. I was gripped from the first page. I didn't want to put it down. I felt the love, the anger and hurt as if they were my own. I was so invested with these two that I cried when the book was done. It's been a long time since I've read a book that could do that to me.
I made the mistake of reading reviews before finishing this book--I had a few pop up when I added it to my GRs Currently Reading. One of the issues I took with some of the reviews is the confusion with labeling in genres, specifically the distinction between Romance and Erotica. I was given this book by Netgalley and it was clearly labelled as Erotica. And that is what the story is, Erotica--where the story is sex driven. There is a love story, but it doesn't arrive to that emotion as easily as it does in Romance. There is no insta-love. There was insta-lust and the lead characters definitely indulged in their desires. While I'm not a proponent of trigger warnings or warning labels, I do feel it's important to give the reader perspective of the sexual content. If there is M/F/M or M/M/F, then it helps the reader select their book. Unfortunately, this book didn't warn me about it. While I'm not a prude, I was surprised by the depth of *ahem* engagement between the threesome. Yet, the sexual descriptions were hot and served the purpose of titillating the reader. When I read that the story had no plot, I disagreed. There is a plot: a young woman, dealing with heartbreak, demands her independence and freedom to engage in sexual encounters with no strings attached. While there was a borrowing of plot from "An Affair To Remember" with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant, this isn't a heartrending version--in my perception. I did feel for the heroine and her plight, but I felt she was too standoffish and it was off-putting. When it came to the main hero, I felt he was too giving. I wanted more details as to why he fell in love with her. Surely, it was more than her body and sexual liberalness that drew him to her. But I never got a sense of what it was and other than the hot sexual chemistry, I don't think the couple knew either. While I believe this was a well written sexual fantasy and exploration, I have some hardwired expectations for sexual encounters. I understand that as authors, we can and do write fantasy where we can create a world free of illness, sadness, violence, pain, etc., but I do believe there is a responsibility for us to remind our readers that there is some reality to our fantasy and we're required to keep ourselves and our sexual partners safe and sound from STDs or Unquestionable Consent when engaging in certain BDSM acts. Other than that, this is a page turner. I will read other books from this author. I think she writes an engrossing tale.
Opal Carew's newest book is steamy! It's a fun romp with strong characters, hot sex scenes, and enough plot to keep the book moving forward.
I usually am a big fan of Opal Carew but this book lacked something. I think it could have used more editing (I read an ARC though so maybe it was edited again after I read it)
The sex scenes were the biggest part of the story and they didn't seem enjoyable- sorta rushed & done by a check list.
Overall not my favorite but it did have some interesting parts.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Opal Carew always gives her readers unique situations with steaming, off the charts hot sex scenes. Her latest, A Fare to Remember continues that tradition. After a bad breakup, Stevie has sworn off men. Despite the joking suggestions of her friends who think she should hook up with hew next fare to help get over her boyfriend's betrayal she just wants to be on her own driving her taxi without the drama and stress men bring into the picture. That all changes one evening when Reid enters her taxi. He is drawn to Stevie and she finds it hard to resist him, despite wanting nothing to do with rich men who will likely cause her more heartbreak. Soon a sexy one night stand leads to a hot and heavy affair that has Stevie experiencing every erotic situation that Reid can dream up, including a threesome with his equally sexy best friend Dylan. Are Reid and Stevie just destined to have some hot and heavy fun and then move on or will they end up making a connection that will last long into the future?
I was grateful to receive a free copy of a Fare to Remember in exchange for an honest review. I'll be honest, the title didn't seem that appealing, and I kept saving this book in my "to read" folder. Big mistake. This book was great. The chemistry was good, the characters were all likable, and there were a few pleasant surprises. I would highly recommend this book as long as you are comfortable with mmf and mm scenes.
I normally love Opal Carew, but I've just found the last few books kinda boring to be honest. It's the same same kinda story over and over. A hook up (with a billionaire of course) and then a menage a trois. The book has a happily ever after, but it just needed more of a well thought out story for me, instead of the same we've seen in her other books. Will I give her books another try? Of course, I just hope she finds some fresh new material, and another word instead of wailing (it repeats often, so often in fact, I roll my eyes, every time it appears).
** Honest review in exchange for ARC received from Netgalley**
I am being generous giving this book 2 stars, as there was so much I didn't like about it. In fact I had to force myself not to ditch the book after about 10% as it just was not my kind of erotic romance.
Opal Carew is a new author to me and sadly I will not be reading any of her other work.
I am comfortable with most of the components you find in this book - Insta-lust / one-night stand / graphic sex / BDSM / MMF action - but the problem was that they were badly written or simply 'shoe-horned' into the story as if working through a tick list.
The sex scenes came along with frightening regularity and most of the words used made me cringe rather than blush (intimate petals ranking as one of the worst). I'm very much a 'call a p*ssy a p*ssy' kinda gal rather than the author working through a list of p*ssy synonms!!
I realise that this may just be me so back to the book.....
I applaud a woman like Stevie who has the b*lls to pick up a guy and within a short cab ride agree to sex in a dark alleyway with him BUT no protection or talk of it or even make mention of forgetting to address it afterwards?????
Maybe as Stevie instantly 'knows' he is a billionaire, she thinks an unplanned pregnancy will result in a mega paycheck anyway??!!!
Clearly Reid falls so deeply in love with Stevie within a nanosecond that if a baby turns up nine months later then so much the better. Really???
Then when they get to his apartment he turns Dom and starts demanding she calls him sir and master and introduces a ballgag and tying up with no talk of hard limits or safe words???!! Luckily just as I thought this was veering into FSOG territory, then the dom/sub vibe vanished in to thin air so we could move on to the next 'topic'.
So Reid and Stevie are deeply in love after a couple of nights in the sack and the next development in their relationship is to introduce Reid's friend Dylan. In this book billionaires are like buses..........you wait ages for one then two come along at once !!!!!
Dylan is 'edgier' - has tattoos and dresses down - but is hot and is keen to get in on the action.
With no M/M history between these two guys and no talk of boundaries etc, they engage in full-on MMF sex. I am no prude and have thoroughly enjoyed other MMF books but this was not handled well and was pretty unbelievable. Polyamorous relationships are incredibly complex and I could not take this seriously at all.
Just when I was despairing of any kind of storyline we had a bit of drama and a reason to keep going to the end to see if there was a HEA.
Well at least it was a marriage proposal instead of a trip to the STI clinic or the local family planning office!!
I wish I could find some positives. I guess the only thing was the fact that Stevie was a feisty woman who could look after herself and did not want to be beholden to anyone.
Fun, sexy read. Definitely caught me off guard and I fell in love with the story and the characters!
I honestly don't know what to say about this one.I was excited but there were some scenes in this one that I find them really strange. The sex was hot but only this.
I have never read Opal Carew before. This book sounded like it could be a lot of fun and super sexy.
The heroine is a a cab driver and she picked the hero up for a ride. Their whole initial interaction felt weird to me
I was then turned off by them, virtual strangers having unprotected sex in an alley way. They didn't even have a conversation about whether or not to use a condom.
I lasted a few pages after that, but decided this was not for me.
RATING 4.5 STARS
A Fare to Remember is by Opal Carew. Buckle your seat belts for this one, ladies. I am warning you ahead of time, this book is burn your face off hot. I’ve read a lot of steamy, sexy romances. But this one, whew, I won’t soon forget.
Stefani Trivoli, or Stevie as her friends call her, is having a very bad day. She caught her boyfriend in bed with another woman. So she threw a couple of suitcases in the trunk of the cab she drives for a living and left. Now she is homeless, hurt and angry. Her friend calls her and jokingly tells her she should screw the next customer she picks up, sort of a get back on the horse right away kind of advice. Well, just as he said it, a very suave, very good looking business man climbs into the back seat. Let’s just say that Stevie took her friend’s advice.
Stevie has no interest in getting back into a relationship. Twice, now, she has been hurt badly. But this guy ignites something within her. Something she didn’t know was there. He wants more than one night. The question is, can she give it to him?
Reid Jacobs is a very rich entrepreneur. He knows what he wants and he goes after it. When the sexy cabbie comes on to him, he doesn’t hesitate. But he knows once will not be enough. Reid has some very particular proclivities when it comes to sex. He likes to be in complete control, for his partner to submit to him. Will Stevie submit to him?
Stevie and Reid had chemistry like the fourth of July. When Reid has to go to work, though, and leaves Stevie in his apartment, she is quite surprised when Dylan Cole shows up and thinks she is trespassing. Dylan is Reid’s business manager I believe. But he is also his best friend. He is the complete opposite of Reid. Where Reid wears his designer suits, Dylan wears jeans and t-shirts and has several tattoos. Stevie reacts to Dylan immediately. How can this be? They are so different. She is not in a relationship with Reid, though. But just the same, she feels guilty for feeling attracted to Dylan.
Reid wants Stevie to stay and will do whatever he has to convince her. When Stevie proposes experimenting with the three of them together, Reid is all in, as is Dylan.
Okay, I’ll stop here and add a few of my thoughts. First, I don’t really enjoy the whole master/submission thing. And this started out that way, but to my delight, it quickly moved on. These three together were crazy sexy. Stevie, though, has some very definite ideas about people with money from her own experiences. And this is one of the things keeping her from wanting to get in any deeper emotionally with Reid and Dylan. But the more time she is with Reid, the more she sees that he just might be the exception to what she has known in the past. Also, I really, really loved Dylan. And at times, I felt like he was getting a bum deal with this. The strongest emotional bond was forming between Stevie and Reid. He was just sort of the third wheel. But he was falling for her as well. Still, he seemed completely happy with things and I think their bond will continue to strengthen.
Going in I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. I loved these three and like I’ve said a bunch of times already, it is crazy hot. If you enjoy this type of romance, I highly recommend it. I loved it and can’t wait to read more by Opal Carew!
Well, damn, damn, hot f&*%ing damn. This was heated from the very first cab ride. There are things contained that you are not warned about. Here it is in all caps MFM, MM, BDSM, and then some. Now, you have been warned. This was a erotically charged read that lead you on the highs and lows of such a read where the two that first meet are virtual strangers that have the hottest sex. Stevie finds that this one night holds so much for her. With the implication of completely changing her life forever. There are surprises. There are a few things that everyone don’t want to know but of course are exposed. This was a good read. Opal Carew delivers as she always does.
***Contains content that not everyone will approve of and will possible rate harshly because they are not familiar with Opal’s work. You have been forewarned.
