This wasn't relevant to me and my child but.I could see it being potentially useful to some parents, I guess.

Thiagarajan's "Beyond the Tiger Mom" is a unique blend of personal reflection, interviewing other mothers, and drawing on research to compare Eastern (India & Singapore) and Western (US) educational systems and expectations. The author's perspective draws on her own upbringing and education in India, her professional training as an educator in the US, and her experience in Singapore as she parents her children. The strength of this book is Thiagarajan's quest for figuring out the right balance or course between contrasting educational systems that prioritize different outcomes and utilize very different strategies.

The title threw me off a bit. The mothers in Singapore do not come off as "Tiger Mothers" to me, though how their care and concern for their children's future manifests would seem very strict and demanding for the average mother's perspective in the US.

This book is very helpful for shaking up educational assumptions and providing examples of how education and educational systems are very much the product of culture and societal expectation, not just the results of individual family values.
