Rockabilly Hell is an interesting book that lacks follow through.
It is hell of an idea but they never really come together. Johnstone's idea of rock-n-roll ghosts and the modern day snuff films but the characters are never fully realised and plots feel forced.
The killing and sex are handled in a graphic horror sensibility which it does have its fans. Although there is nothing wrong with this type of work, I expected more from this book than a penny novel. The idea is such a fascinating one that I was expecting a more satisfying read.
The novel basically lacks emotion. If nailed right, you should have been able to emote, smell and see every nuance within its pages. I read it like a person who was twice removed from the action.
Excellent idea but lacking on delivering.
