I really enjoyed this book. Definitely a Cinderella retelling but I appreciate the addition of an insane rooster! Jane was adorable although her sisters deserved to be chucked out a window. Brock was a tougher character for me to enjoy because he was such a strong character in many ways but yet was still caving to his control freak grandfather. It was just a little hard to reconcile. His twin brothers though were adorable and definitely redeemed some of the areas where the book fell flat.
3 out of 5 stars.
The Bachelor Auction by Rachel Van Dyken
The Bachelor Auction was a bit of a letdown for me. I love fairytale retellings and Cinderella is one of my favorites, so I was excited about this! The Cinderella references were great, and I super enjoyed the twin brothers, but that's about where my enjoyment stopped. Brock is such a jerk. He was really nice at first, but then he changed completely and I have no idea why. You can have a painful past and still treat people with respect. I couldn't figure out why Jane kept coming back for more from him. I would have kicked him to the curb immediately after learning the kind of person he is. And Jane was a total doormat. Brock kept referring to her as an easy target. Where's the romance when a man acts like this? The humor wasn't for me either, and got to be rather repetitive and, frankly, old. Disappointing.
**My thanks to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
Jane first meets Brock when she is practically forced to go to a party with her demanding and manipulative older sisters. The sisters get drunk and rip her dress and Brock steps in as her saviour, only to them both to find a connection t hat they have never felt before. But Brock has been told by his grandfather that he is being put up for auction and that he wants Brock to get married.
The visit between the pair is short and Jane leaves, having left a big impression on Brock and Jane cannot get him out of her head when she gets a phone call from an older gentleman asking her to clean up a house for the new occupants and she will get £30,000. It is her nasty sisters that ultimately makes her mind up.
At the house, both find each other and Brock brothers turn up, getting Brock into an area where he has to face his fears and his feelings. Within two weeks both Jane and Brock feel more for each other than for anyone else and Brock asks Jane to trust him.
Plans into action and all parties get what they want and Jane and Brock get a happiness they never though they would get.
I really liked this book and think that the twin brothers were almost the stars of the show and i cannot wait for them to get their happy ever afters.

The bachelor auction by Rachel Van Dyken
A special thanks to the publisher Forever and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book in the Bachelors of Arizona series. This book has the classic Cinderella type storyline. Jane lives with her two older sisters. Both of their parents died while they were young and it was her father‘s wish that they stay together. So that’s what Jane did, she does whatever it takes to keep her sisters Esmeralda and Essence happy. She basically has the Cinderella role she cooks, she cleans, she does the laundry, she make sure that they have everything they need even bailing them out of debt. What’s sad is that she spends all day cleaning houses for a living and then coming home and doing the same.
Brock Wellington is the oldest of three boys he lost his parents when he was 12 and his twin brothers were much younger. They were then taken in by their grandfather, Charles. Brock hasn’t been happy in so long. He too feels like he must take care of his brothers in the name of family. Even though he’s unhappy he’s being groomed to take over his grandfathers place in Wellington Enterprises. But the board isn’t convinced that the three boys can handle the business. His grandfather has duel motives when he sets up a bachelor auction with all the proceeds going to cancer research.
He wants Brock to choose a wife and give him some grandkids.
Meanwhile Jane sisters drag her out to a club to be their designated driver. Brock steps up to save Jane has she is almost trampled on the dance floor. He steels her away to his parents ranch until he is forced to return for the bachelor auction. Well his grandfather forced him to marry the winner of the auction? Well Jane sisters finally step up and be adults? Will Jane be able to put them in their place? Check out The Bachelor Auction for all the answers.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book, regardless of how long ago it was given. I struggled with it when I first started reading it ages ago and decided to sit it aside for a little while. Unfortunately, t didn't take too long to realize this wasn't going to be a book I would enjoy on my second try. I was having a hard time with the characters and, honestly, I was a little bored.
Remember Cinderella? That fairy tale wherein the Step-Sister was treated as a maid and had a fairy God Mother who treated her to a night out where she met the love of her life? Yeah forget every single thing about that book!
No, seriously! You need to go into this book without any previous foundation – you’ll enjoy the book a whole lot better really!
Me? I never really liked Cinderella!! You get a chance for a night out and you blow it away on a man? That was the stupidest thing ever – but then again, I read that fairy tale as a teenager in a conservative family, so I had a teeny tiny bit of jealous streak where Cinderella was concerned.
Jane or Plain Jane as she refers to herself lives with her two step-sisters, Esmeralda and Essence can there be any better bitch-y names?), but she promised her father on his deathbed that she would keep the semblance of a family alive between her and her step-sisters. And this is exactly what the evil sisters use to manipulate jane into doing all the house-work or basically be their slave.
Jane was the perfect little beautiful soul – and I adored her sunshine-y attitude. She is one heroine I am gonna look back on my crappy days and let her bring a smile to my face.
Brock Wellington is the Wellington heir with twin younger brothers. After losing his parents at a young age, he was taken in by his Grandfather, yet still feels his parent’s loss. Believing that he owes his Grandfather everything, he has never done anything that he wanted in his life – instead went ahead to do his bidding, every single time unlike his brothers. When his Grandfather comes up with the idea of an Auction for a Public Relations Ploy, Brock feels his life is again out of his control.
The one night he goes out for some fun, ends up rescuing Jane from an embarrassing situation. And hence, begin their crazy ride!
“She was the only woman who had offered something money couldn’t buy.
Her heart.”
This was one laugh out loud ride – no one does comedy and embarrassing situations in romance better than RVD, and she pretty much outshines herself in The Bachelor Auction. I will not say more, but you have to know that this is one book that you definitely need in your Kindles, for those time when you just want to curl up and lose yourself in a world that is so similar to our own, yet infinitely more interesting!
I am also honestly looking forward to how RVD handles the twin brother’s HEA – you know what they say? Twins mean twice the trouble ;)
“That was the thing about death. It haunted the living, until they mourned it. And the more it was ignored, the bigger it grew. Until survival was near impossible.”
Rachel's talent for writing side characters that jump off the page is unmatched, and this book is no exception. Thoroughly enjoyed this modern day Cinderella story. Just can't get enough of her books! Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title
Cute and entertaining read from an author I highly admire. Not a top favorite but it kept me on my toes. I recommend it!
Few authors publish books that get me so captivated in them, that I finish the entire thing in one sitting. RVD is one of those authors. Since I discovered her books, way back when, I have devoured just about every one of them. I love this woman's writing. She just can't put out a bad book, in my opinion. Honestly, some of the most hilarious books that I have ever read, have been at her hand. Hello, have you met Grandma Nadine???
Well, The Bachelor Auction is right up there with some of the best. This book is pure gold. Hilarity, romance and a healthy dose of heat- all at their finest. When you guys meet Brock and Jane- it's like things just fall into place. Really, I think the world at large probably gave a collective sigh at seeing these two people find their other halves. That's how perfect they are together. Even if things don't always go perfect for them, lol.
How imperfect, you ask? Well, there's an ass, a cock (get your minds outta the gutter people!) and two rowdy twins to contend with- just to name a few. And trust me- you don't want to miss a moment of anything to do with either of those three!! I'm talking laughing until you have tears streaming!!
Did I mention more Grandma Nadine??? Yes!!! That's right, our favorite RVD character ever makes her own grand appearance in this book, playing none other than Jane's own modern day fairy godmother. Because, really- what else do you expect from Nadine? The woman is a goddess, after all!!
There is plenty of meddling, family squabbles, love, and laughter thrown into the pages of The Bachelor Auction, that will make even the most cynical reader stay hooked from beginning to end. Like I said before- the book is pure gold. It's got it all, including a big fat 5 star rating from me!! Enjoy readers!!
I really liked this book (maybe even more than some of her books). Rachel did a good job in this contemporary romance. Steamy without being erotic and just the right amount of tenderness. Plus you still get Rachel's Fun and Laugh Out Loud side including an ass and cock (donkey and rooster). Keep your minds out of the gutter.
This is the story of Brock and Jane. Both, having lost their parents, feel the need to satisfy their remaining family rather than themselves. Brock does this by being a Yes-Man to everything his Grandfather needs from him. Jane is like a real-life Cinderella caring for her older sisters and cleaning up their messes (both figuratively and realistically). Brock and Jane share one special moment together before life happens. Grandfather has set up an Auction with Brock as the Bachelor. The media is loving the idea, twisting the story into Brock finding a wife. Brock and Jane have a chance at love, but will these two give up pleasing family to finally please themselves?
This book was just meh for me, which is extremely rare because I usually love everything about Rachel Van Dyken. She could write on a piece of toilet paper and I would read it. For some strange reason I was just not vibing this book, and I think it is one that I will come back to later on and re-read because I think at this current moment I am not feeling a predictable romance.
I found Jane to be wishy-washy and annoying, on the flip side, I first struggled with all the B names. I am a stickler for names and usually something like this wouldn't bother me but for some reason all the B names right within the first several pages irked me. The sisters are absolutely horrendous and I wanted to reach through the Kindle and throttle them. The tale itself was fun and cute but I just don't think I was feeling Rachel this week.
To be revisited.
A humorous romantic book with a little fairy tale twist? You can always count me in! And this truly was a real Cinderella story in Rachel Van Dyken’s usual humorous and adorable packaging. 🙂 I loved it! 🙂
Jane’s life is far from a fairy tale. After her parent’s death she had to take over her father’s business: ‘Cinderella Cleaning’, and she also has to take care of her reprobate sisters, without one ounce of gratitude in return.
But every girl is dreaming about their lives turning into a fairy tale someday and a prince will come for them and take them to his palace where they will live “happily ever after”.
But Jane doesn’t even suspect that while other girls can only dream, for her a chivalrous helping hand and a left behind shoe can bring a change into her life forever.
But what happens when a senile grandpa mixes everything up with an auction where he wants to auction off his own grandson who happens to be the Price Charming? Then Cinderella has to take over control and pick up the quill to write the happy ending to her story by herself…
Brock and Jane is quite similar in more than one way. While Jane has to take care of her sisters and she can’t say no to them, the billionaire Brock is also a true “yes man”. He just can’t say no to anyone, especially to her grandfather who was like a father for him after her parent’s death and who runs the company. And he also feels responsibility to watch over every move of his twin brothers, which is not an easy task since they end up in the tabloids almost every day because of a new misstep. 🙂
Although I laughed a lot during my read, to tell the truth I almost gave 4 stars for this book, but at the end I decided that this story can’t be taken seriously anyway, and from this perspective it was pretty entertaining. 🙂 But still, something was missing for me, and it felt like the secondary cast of characters were so much stronger than the main characters. The twins, the senile grandpa, Nadine, the cock and the ass definitely ruled the story for me. 🙂
First book in a new series by Rachel van Dyken. A copy generously provided by netgalley for a review.
Jane is like a modern day Cinderella with two kind of mean sisters and owns a cleaning business. She meets the handsome Brock after a shoe mishap at a party and ends up working as a maid for him.
Love this book and all three of the Wellington brothers. Definitely can't wait to read more of the twins in the next books.
Main Guy: Brock Wellington
Main Girl: Jane
This story was a total Cinderella meets Prince Charming with the exception that the evil step-sisters and step-mother are just two extremely bitchy and annoying sisters.
As you read you will spend half your time shouting “Jane honey, you’re their sister, not their slave. Tell Bitch-1 and Bitch-2 you are totally done with them.”
A major kill for this story was how weak the female lead was, coupled with a guy so riddled with issues over mommy and daddy that he spends his time teetering between sweetheart and jackass it became blah.
What did save the story was the sweet romantic ending two matchmaking old timers. Brock’s brothers were also somewhat entertaining characters, I will totally be reading their books and hopefully in those books the female leads don’t let their sisters use them like old dishrag.

Ohhh Y'all, this is a modern day Cinderella with a twist...I just loved this book. It gave me all those good feels while reading!!!
This book was about Brock. He did everything for his twin brothers and his Grandfather. His grandfather had taken him and his brothers in years ago after their parents had died. Brock was always a "Yes Man" and really never did anything for himself. He never had time for fun, sex, women, really anything. He wasn't getting any younger. He needed a change but he just didn't have the time. But one night he meets "Her". A brief moment of saving her. He couldn't believe how much he was drawn to her. He helped her, took care of her and then she was gone. He got the name of the beautiful woman, but did he have enough information to find her?
Then one day his grandfather had this bright idea to have an auction. He was going to auction off his Bachelor grandson. Brock wasn't to keen on this idea. All he could think about over the past 3 weeks was this beautiful girl he had met previously. Maybe, could she possibly be at this auction his grandfather was putting on? How lucky he would be if she was there.
I gave this book 5 iScream Cones!! This book was truly soo much fun to read. Made me laugh and swoon and have to turn that air conditioner down due to the Hawtness of this book!!!
I really enjoyed this romance between main characters Jane and Brock. Their romance was fun and entertaining to read. I liked the characters and the storyline kept my interest from start to finish! A great start to a series, and another winner by Van Dyken!
This book was awesome!
I absolutely adored the Cinderella theme that the book was written on.
Jane runs a cleaning business that she has taken over from her father. She lives with her two mean sisters, Essence and Esmeralda, who rely on Jane to do all the cooking and cleaning. Sound familiar?
Brock Wellington, helps run his grandfather's business and basically does anything he can to make his grandfather happy. It doesn't matter that he's not happy running the business, it's what is expected of him and it keeps his Grandfather happy.
Brock's grandfather needs to keep the shareholders happy and because Brock's two twin brothers are always in the limelight for the wrong things, Brock's grandfather decides to hold a bachelor auction. Brock being one of the bachelors on the block.
There were a few times during the book that I wanted to smack Brock upside the head but in the end he redeemed himself.
This was an emotionally packed book that had both characters really dealing with the demons of their past. You learn a lot about the reasons why they act the way they do which really kept intrigued.
I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read the next in the series!
This was a new author to me and I have no idea why I have not read her before.
After tragedy strikes Jane is left to hold her family together but sadly that means she spends all her time waiting on and looking after her two sisters, just like a modern day Cinderella.
This was a great romantic comedy and although both Jane and Brock annoyed me with their willingness to let their families walk all over them, I could at times understand why they did.
When Brock's grandfather comes to him with a plan to auction Brock off as a public relations event to show their family in a more favourable light, Brock despite his miss-givings agrees.
When Jane meets Brock at a party, sparks immediately fly and the air sizzles with their attraction to one another. Just like Cinderella, Jane leaves before he can get her name. Imagine his surprise when he finds Jane cleaning the ranch house where he is staying while waiting for the auction to take place.
The camaraderie and banter between Jane and Brock was side splitting at times, throw in some barnyard animals and there was certainly a lot happening.
I laughed a great deal whilst reading this book and yet it was sweet and spicy as well.
This book was well written and I really liked not only ther main characters but the secondary ones as well. I cannot wait until Brock's twin brothers get the story.
