Sometimes we just need a story about lost love and second chance romance, and Always is just that! It is light, easy read.
While I am a big fan of Sarah Jio's work, this novel did not hold my attention as much as her past works. Kailey, the main character, did not seem like a unique, authentic character and so her narrative voice did not sound genuine to me. The plot also seemed a little too convenient. Overall, an entertaining read and I do plan on reading more of Jio's novels, but this is one of my less favorite Jio novel.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC of Always, by Sarah Jio.
Kailey is on top of the world, engaged to a kind and handsome business man named Ryan, and thriving in her own career as a writer. But after a nice night out with her soon to be in-laws, she comes across a homeless man that stops her in her tracks. It's the love of her life, Cade, a man who completely disappeared years ago.
This story takes us between the two decades of Cade, and then Ryan, and all the events that led Cade to the horrifying position he's in today.
I was initially intrigued with this story, but I was never completely hooked. The characters may have been a bit too one dimensional, and frankly, the story was just a bit over the top for me.
Beautiful, beautiful prose. Sarah Jio does it again in this unputdown-able novel. I was completely enthralled with the story line and the characters, and my heart was one hundred percent in it. Breathless and intoxicated, I was both looking forward to and dreading the last page. Definitely read this, you will not regret it.
This was such a great surprise. I was unfamiliar with the author, but liked the description and requested an ARC from Netgalley. I am also not normally a reader of romance novels, but this interested me from the start. The main character, Kailey Crane, recognizes her former fiancé in
dire circumstances. Her compassion for him is remarkable. The story tells of the road ahead and the power such compassion encompasses. This was an enjoyable read.
A great book to read on the beach, or better yet, cozied up by the fire. This book is sweet yet heartbreaking, with a beautiful love story woven in the middle.
I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this anymore. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!
When we start the story Kailey is engaged to be married to Ryan and they are both really successful. Kailey is a reporter working on saving a homeless shelter even though her and Ryan are at odds about it the relationship is good. When they go to dinner she sees a figure that looks a lot like Cade the man she was in love with 10 years ago but that can't be right this man looks homeless. When she goes back the next day she looks and looks and finally finds him and it is Cade but he really doesn't acknowledge her but she keeps trying. When she finally finds him again he has been beaten up and she takes him to the hospital where they find he may have had TMI brain injury. Kailey is such a good soul she can't just leave Cade on his own and Ryan is more than understanding but my heart was breaking for Kailey almost the whole book. I really enjoyed the story line and the small glimpse of the homeless and the suffering of someone with a TMI. The feelings and the decisions that are made by Kailey are admirable and Ryan her fiancé is such a sweetheart.
Always is written alternating between the past and the present.
Kailey found the love of her life and it was Cade, but he suddenly disappeared one night 15 years ago.
Kailey finally moves on with her life and becomes engage to Ryan, who is perfect in every way. One night after dinner with Ryan and her in-laws, Kailey sees a homeless man outside of the restaurant. She immediately recognizes him as Cade, her previously successfully record executive. Her past and present collide. Cade does not recognize her, but Kaylie is nagged with the fact that she once deeply loved this man and can't leave thoughts of him alone. She goes in search of him and finds him.
We watch and see Kaylie fall in love with Cade and watch as their relationship blossoms and tanks. We get glimpses of what is going on with Cade now. Kaylie can't bring herself to give up on Cade and hides what she is doing from Ryan. Until Ryan sees Cade in his apartment, although he misinterprets what is happening. Kaylie is trying to get Cade into a trial for people with Traumatic Brain Injuries. Kaylie just can't let it go and she, as a journalist, digs deeper to find out what happened to make Cade the way she is.
At some point, Kaylie is going to have to decide between her past and present loves and I couldn't read fast enough to find out what she would decide.
With current social issues of TBI and homelessness, Jio writes a compelling love story that brings these issues to the forefront.
Such a well written and compassionate book.
5 glowing stars
I've never been disappointed with Sarah Jin's books. Always is a vintage Sarah Jio book; filled with nostalgia, heart wrenching turns of fate, and ultimately love and a heroine who has no other choice but to follow her heart. I did not want to put this one down. The writing flowed seamlessly and I adore her writing style of alternating chapters between past and present.
If you are a fan of Sarah's you will enjoy this book, if you are not but are a fan of romance and lost love kind of stories you too will be swept up in Always.
Excellent book! I was ready to write a review before I was half through with it. I have suggested this book to many many people. I actually finished it a few weeks ago. But could not pick up another book because this book....ah no words. It kept my interest the whole way through, so many twists and turns that surprised me. Such good surprises that made me want to read more, but yet I didn't want the sort to end. I thought I had it figured out and yet I was wrong. The book had a great ending. It didn't make me feel that the story was incomplete and left me hanging. Thank you!!! Loved this book!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
I think I have read almost all of this author's previous novels, I loved most of them and really liked the rest. This book though, was a disappointment. It was good, just not as good as her other books. That being said, if I had not read her other books, I may have liked it more, I just had very high expectations for this book.
I found the story while heartwarming was very predictable and a little slow. I did like Kailey and Cade, I just wish the storyline had been a little more interesting. Of course, I will still read her next book, as they are usually amazing.
It was ok. Not my favorite but not the worst. Some may like it more.
I DESPERATELY wanted to enjoy this book, but I was frustrated with some of the lack of details not to mention the choices of the main character. Overall, this book didn't suit my personal preferences. However, I can absolutely see the attraction for others and will recommend it to the appropriate patrons.
Thank you for the chance to review this book, however, unfortunately, I was unable to read and review this title before it was archived.
This is a story of then and now, then being 1996/7 and now 2008. Then is when Kailey met and lost Cade, now is when she's engaged to Ryan. While I knew where the story was headed from the beginning I like Sarah Jio as an author and was glad to be along for the ride.
Kailey is engaged to the perfect man, but runs into her now homeless first love. Now she must chose who her heart really belongs to.
Bottom Line: I am going to be very honest and say that I did not finish this book. The writing was really choppy for me, and I don’t like being spoon fed while I am reading. I feel like the premise was good, but the writing fell short. I didn’t really feel anything from the characters and life is too short to finish a book you are not enjoying.
**I received a copy of Always from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am a big fan of Sarah Jio's and was happy to receive a complimentary copy of this book. This is a quick easy "lighter" romance read. I felt it lacked the substance of the author's previous books, so this one was not my favorite. A little too predictable.
This novel stole my heart, it takes your dreams and shatters them. It makes you look back at things that you never really knew the answers to and it hurts. Sarah Jio took real problems and shoved them in the face of a reader by creating the characters that she created.
Always is an amazing story that separates the comfort of an ideal relationship and the insecurity of a long lost love that desperately needs help. I loved, loved, LOVED this one! You will too!
To see someone you once loved and never really got over sitting on the street and homeless, the thoughts that invade your mind are overwhelming. How would any of us handle this situation - well Jio gives us an insight into how Kailey decided her future with the choices that she made.
