Thanks so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for giving me access to this book. I love these recipes! Food52 is a reliable source of cooking content.. This book gets a strong recommend from me.
Tasty recipes that were easy to follow. Really only something I would give to someone who want to try different ice creams.
I love Food52.
This cookbook has all the things I love about food 52.
Easy to follow and tasty recipes.
Great photography and layout.
If you like ice cream this is a must get.
This was an interesting book with a variety of delicious sounding recipes. If I had one comment, it was there was almost too much variety for such a short volume.
As an ice cream lover I had to read this book. It was filled with lucsious recipes and I will be creating some after I purchase my own copy. YUM!!
Food 52 is one of my favorite sites on the internet. Not just for recipes, but for the quality of writing and thoughtfulness of opinion. I am so grateful I got a sneak peek at Ice Cream and Friends through Netgalley. What is so smart about Food 52 cookbooks is that you don't even have to make a whole recipe to have something wonderful. I have made the blueberry compote from the Summer Corn Semifreddo recipe twice this summer already. I also love the Naked Chocolate Ice cream. Taking eggs out of the equation makes the whole process easier. This is also a beautifully photographed book. I enjoyed reading it on my Kindle, but it's one of those that's worth owning just to flip through when inspiration strikes.
arc via netgalley my thoughts are my own!
love the photos & easy steps in here. my favorite is the mochi toppings. this is a definite buy for anyone who loves ice cream or has a maker!
It's almost that time again, if you consider cold treats to be a seasonal thing--time for ice cream and all those other tasty frozen treats! And if you're looking for ideas to make at home, Food52 has all the ideas you need. From ideas for no-churn ice creams to boozy ice cream treats, from milkshakes to popsicles to ice cream sandwiches, Food52 Ice Cream and Friends has it all.
And I do mean that this cookbook has it all. Not just the frozen treats, but all the accoutrements--magic shell, sugar cones, old-fashioned hot fudge, balsamic butterscotch, and even sprinkles. Yes, they include a recipe for sprinkles. You can add whatever flavor or color you like, because they're your very one homemade sprinkles! How cool is that?
So here are just a few of the 60+ recipes you'll find here: two-tone fudge pops, fresh ricotta ice cream, chocolate tacos, carrot cake ice cream, vanilla rooibos gelato, coffee frozen custard, mud pie with beer ice cream, s'mores ice cream, blood orange-negroni pops, cucumber sorbet, cherry snow cones, roasted peaches with lemon spoom (it's a sort of sorbet foam), and cinnamon roll ice cream. There is even a recipe for burnt toast ice cream.
And because it's Food52, they know all the ins and outs of making ice cream. Did your ice cream base break? They know how to fix it. They know how to temper chocolate so the texture is perfect for mixing it into ice cream. They know how best to store it, what kind of shelf life it has, and how to fix it when it gets too melty. They even have tips for dealing with that nemesis of all the frosty summer treats, The Brain Freeze.
Am I overselling here? Ya, I think I need to bring it down a little too. But here's the thing. Food52 Ice Cream and Friends is a fantastic cookbook filled with all sorts of genuinely creative ideas for grown-up, sophisticated, tasty frozen treats, both savory and sweet, both churned and not, and there is definitely something for everyone. And of course, the photography is so amazing you'll want to lick the pages.
Galleys for Food52 Ice Cream and Friends were provided by the publisher through NetGalley.com.

Please note: I have not yet made anything from this recipe book.
Most of the time I look up recipes online when I am going to make anything, but I love browsing through cookbooks. As I read through them I often pick up tips. I also have this bad habit of not following recipes. I will skim through and then do what I think it says. Another attraction of cookbooks are the photographs. This one has such gorgeous pictures that I was literally drooling as I flipped the pictures. One dessert I could not give up is ice cream. I prefer my ice cream simple so of the recipes are a bit too decadent for me. I think that this book is perfect for dinner parties - a great time to pull out all the stops. The recipes seem pretty simple to follow...but it really depends on your comfort level.
Food52 Ice Cream and Friends is a collection of 60 ice creams of all flavors. The choices will take you way beyond basic vanilla or chocolate. Ice cream is a big deal in my family so I am no stranger to making it myself. While the recipes are good, I found most of them to be more complicated than necessary. I did try out the recipe for Coffee Frozen Custard. The resulting ice cream was good but not great. I did not find enough recipes to make it worth adding to my cookbook collection. I do recommend that you preview the book before making your own decision.
Ice cream is fun so many wonderful recipes such as Cinnamon Roll, Grasshopper Ice Crem Bars, Earl Grey Ice Cream with Blueberry Swirl and Apple-BayLeaf . How about Basil-Shiso Castellated Cake! Beautiful photography.
A delightful book full of great recipes for all kinds of frozen delights from ice cream to the delightfully-named spoom. The recipes cover the gamut of what frozen delights can be from basic chocolate to savory ice creams made with cheese and herbs.
In addition to the frozen recipes there are recipes for all kinds of goodies to make yourself to enliven even store-bought ice cream from homemade sprinkles to sweet croutons and crumbles. Each detailed recipe has a short introduction. If there are several components, the ingredients for each are listed separately, so it's easy to mix and match.
The recipes are not fussy, some even don't require an ice cream maker, so they are perfect for the home cook. If you're more adventurous, you'll find plenty of ideas for making your own variations.
I want to say thanks to Net Galley for giving me another chance to review another Food52 cook book. I had loved their other books, which have given me so many great recipes. Food52's Ice Cream and Friends did not disappoint! When I can find 20 recipes in a cook books I know I will love, I can't wait until warmer weather comes so I can try everything out!
I highly recommend adding Ice Cream and Friends to your collection.
Written by serious ice cream fans, this book has all the recipes you could ever imagine and would like to create easily at home.
I grew up in a family that made ice cream and some of these recipes are great! For those who have missed out on the fun there are recipes that are easy for the first timer and I know you will come back to try more. I sure did!
This goes well beyond 31 flavors! If you are looking for different this is it. Want to explore the ice cream palate this is it.
Food52 cannot fail, ever. They are just THAT good. Ice-cream was a stellar choice for a cookbook by them! I loved all the recipes and even got my family hooked on a few! We've been making them regularly ever since receiving the ARC! That is a win for us!
Wow , a lot of ICECREAMS.......Even savory icecreams. Wonderful shots and props .....
My review to be published April 4, 2017:
My daughter and I love making homemade no-churn ice cream, so this book was perfect to give us a few new flavour suggestions. As well as some old favourites, the editors of the Food52 blog have come up with some unusual combinations, including black pepper and feta or butternut squash and tahini ice creams, and tomato, peach and basil sorbet. I think we'll definitely be trying the carrot cake ice cream, yummy baked alaskas, chocolate tacos, and the Brooklyn Blackout Semifreddo Cake, and will attempt to make our own Magic Shell, cones and sprinkles from their recipes. There's even a genius tip for curing brain freeze, which will certainly come in handy!
The photographs are gorgeous and make your mouth water, and the instructions are clear and written in a chatty manner. I'm now keen to check out the authors' other cookbooks and blog.
