Loved this one! A cocky guy meets a smart mouth sassy girl, what more could you ask for! 5 hockey stars for this one!
Miranda is working her butt off as a maid at the hotel, she's trying to put herself through school, so this job means everything, even though she hates it and her boss who's always complaining about her work and writing her up. While working the penthouse section, she meet's the guy who's staying in the one room, Jake. She feels he's an entitled jerk and pretty much lets him know that.
Jake carries demons inside his head, but when he meet's Miranda, she's like a breath of fresh air, she puts him in his place, something no one does to him, after all he's a star hockey player!
Follow their story as Jake tries to convince Miranda that he's done with his playboy ways!
"Hooked" has been on my Kindle way too long because this book was a really entertaining read.
Miranda is working as a maid in a luxury hotel to cover the costs for her studies. There she meets Jake Birch, the best and hottest hockey player in Chicago. They are starting to feel attracted to each other very soon.
Although you can feel the chemistry between Miranda and Jake very easily, the whole love story is not overly rushed and the relationship is starting very slowly. I really liked the this and also the chemistry. Miranda was a very ambitious woman who is working for her success, while Jake is more than the successful hockey player. They were a really cute couple and I really liked them together.
The hockey setting was also very enjoyable and I liked that the relationship could build without too much drama and Miranda and Jake were actually talking to each other and weren't too childish in their behaviour.
Sweet and sexy sports romance with likable characters. It starts with Jake being a total douche and just gross; banging strippers and his pregame ritual of being a complete jerk, but there’s hope! He starts acting like a decent human; well, at least to female lead Miranda. Miranda and Jake do have some good chemistry; some really sweet moments and they make the other one better. I didn’t care for the whole she resisted me so I must have her attitude of Jake, but I still love how their relationship evolves. Jake has some past stuff he’s dealing with, so it was great that Miranda was supportive for him. It’s great how Jake was all about Miranda as soon as he met her. Plus, there’s hockey, so that’s fun! I was entertained!
I enjoyed this even though it’s a lot like other books I’ve read it was written in a great way and wasn’t too over the top
Jake Birch, handsome and gorgeous NHL team captain of Chicago hockey team staying in Luxury hotel while his condo is being renovated. He never had to beg for a women but when he had a thing with owner's daughter he had to clean up his image and date her or he will be benched. He was fiercely competitive and he was having a good season and there was no way he was willing to sit from the sideline but he never expected to date psycho owner's daughter.
Amanda was trying her best to work as a hotel maid and be a bartender during the weekend to put her through school. She never knew she would meet someone like Jake Birch while cleaning. He was rude and demanding. He was worst client ever she faced. But it never stopped her to speak her mind.
Jake never had a person who would disagree or stood up to him before. Amanda really peaked his interest and he really wanted to pursue where it could go.
Amanda knew if she kept talking back to Jake, she was afraid she would lose her job. But she couldn't back down. When Jake requests specifically for Amanda to clean his suite, she was surprise to be back. As they get to know each other, Amanda sees different side of Jake and vice versa.
They don't know where they were heading to but they are sure they want to pursue until Owner's daughter makes problem for both. He will have to beg to get Amanda back. Will he risk everything to get her back or will he just settle....
It was different hockey story. Jake and Amanda were adorable. They really care for each other and I loved the fact Amanda was strong and outspoken.
It was fun hockey read until the very end.

This is a cute quick read revolving around Jake a hockey player and Miranda who works at the hotel he was staying at while his apartment was being remodeled. With Miranda’s help, Jake overcomes the guilt he feels about his brother dying.
Miranda is a housekeeper at a hotel paying her way through school. Her boss doesn't like her so when Jake the bad boy hockey player request for her only to clean his suite her boss gets suspicious. Miranda doesn't want to get involved with Jake because of his playboy ways but after seeing him constantly she starts to understand why Jake is the way he is. But can a relationship really work with a star hockey player and a simple housekeeper or will someone get in the way
Loved this one! This was an amazing book! It was packed full of steam, humor and sweetness! Loved the characters! Jake and Miranda had intense chemistry!! Loved the banter between them. If you are a lover of sports romances then this is a definite must read!
Miranda is to the point in her honesty. She's working on her degree and juggling two jobs to make ends meet. One job is at an upscale hotel as a maid. She meets Jake in his penthouse suite when she arrives to clean it. She doesn't know or care that he's famous. She's tired and angry that Jake causes her to become flustered just being near the hot tenant! She ends up telling him off in no uncertain terms!
Engaging, sports romance between two alphas! Changing isn't easy for anyone. Two people not used to sharing is funny and heartwarming! Entertaining quick read!
I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book.
This book was just okay for me. I enjoyed the slow build up of the relationship and the hesitancy on both of their parts. I just kept waiting for the other ball to drop. I wanted a little drama, a little excitement but we didn't see much of that even by the end.
Overall though a good story with well developed characters.
Jake is a hot hockey player and has met the perfect woman for him. What's the problem then? Timing is everything is what the problem is! He's being forced to date his team owner's daughter in order to keep his job. So, the perfect woman aka Miranda can't happen! Or can she? He's got more secrets than a girlfriend that Miranda doesn't know about.
Miranda is putting herself through college while working two jobs. She has a big distraction named Jake. He's hot, a bad boy hockey player and a whiner! Jake asks for her to be his personal housekeeper. Good idea or bad?

Cute predicatable story where a poor college girl meets gorgeous rich guy who fall for each other ... but .... he's dating the owner's daughter to keep his job and keeps it a secret from Miranda too. Not a bad read on a lazy afternoon.
Miranda Carr is going to college part time, working as a bartender once a week, and is a full time maid at the DuPont Hotel in Chicago. Her boss Tony is a jerk but she needs the job, and when she is assigned to the penthouse floor she is not looking forward to it at all, especially when she thinks the room is empty and she finds a women walking out of the shower. Just as she finishes her cleaning of the room she ends up ruining a white dress shirt that was on the bed and she decides to hide it on her cart thinking she might get fired. The next day being assigned to the same floor she ends up meeting JAKE Birch hockey star, and captain of the Chicago team, she does not know who he is other than an arrogant, jerk, and ass. He begins to tell her that he needs a brand of water in 16oz, not 32oz, wanting her to buy these things for him she explains to him that she is just the maid but makes a note to give to the front desk, but commenting after everything he says. Like 16oz because you can’t get a glass a pour half of the bottle in it and have your 16oz or what happens to you. Turns out he actually likes her because she does not cut him any slack and does not want anything from him. The more he is around her the he wants to be with her and actually stops being a jerk. The problem comes in when he is forced to act like he is dating the owner’s daughter when he really wants to be with Miranda. He is also frustrated because she does not want anything from him. Their relationship changes when she happens to run into him at a children hospital where she was helping at and he was their dressed up as a clown because he did not want the press to find out. That is when you find out more about his life and how his brother passed away. She also helps him and his parents get back together, the only sticking point is when she finds out about the owners daughter and now he must fix things. This is way more than a hockey book, it is about overcoming loss, finding yourself so you can find the right person, and truly a love story. a very good book with very good characters.
I was not completely sure that I would like this novel as much as I did. We have all read about the poor maid who is swept off her feet by the rich jock.
Unfortunately for Jake, Miranda is not easily swept off her feet. She is busting her butt with two jobs and trying to get through college so she has no times for his games. Jake is immediately attracted to Miranda and makes sure that she has to spend time with him so that he has an actual chance at wooing her.
Miranda holds her own throughout the book not letting Jake get away with anything other than 100 percent. Which Jake appreciates and admires even with dealing with crazy other women and his past.
Great book written in both Jake and Miranda's POV.
Hooked is a standalone story from Brenda Rothert featuring a sexy hockey star and the woman who shakes up his life. I have read and enjoyed books by Brenda Rothert in the past, and I enjoyed Hooked as well. While I didn't absolutely love this story, I did like it.
Miranda is a housekeeper for a hotel, cleaning to pay her way through school. Jake is hockey's bad boy, stuck in a position of keeping the owner of his team happy by dating his daughter, even if it is forced. So when Jake meets Miranda and feels a connection to her, he knows that it is the worst possible timing. If he hopes to keep his job, he can't be caught with Miranda. But the more they get to know each other, the more their feelings grow. When Miranda finds out about Jake's "girlfriend" though, Jake will have to show Miranda that she is the only one he wants.
I liked Jake and Miranda, but this was definitely a case of insta-love. I did feel like they were cute together and I liked seeing them get to know one another. I definitely think that Jake handled things wrong at times though, especially when it came to Hailey. That chick was insane, and honestly the whole situation with her drove me nuts. I did like that Jake was put in his place at times by Miranda though, and I think that she was exactly what he needed. They had chemistry and were cute together, and besides things happening so fast and the stuff with Hailey, I enjoyed their story a lot.
Overall, this was a good book and there were a lot of things that I liked. The story itself was a bit predictable and didn't really break any new ground though. It felt like a lot of other contemporary romances I have read, so while I liked it I didn't love it. I think that if you are looking for something cute and sweet and easy to read, this is one worth giving a shot.
This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. There were times felt like the storyline lost my interest but not enough to not pick it back up. Still, I would read something else by this author.
You can't go wrong with a Brenda Rothert book. I have loved all that I have read of hers. I'm not much into Hockey books, but this was an excellent read. Jake is a Hockey player, the best in his team and he knows it. Whilst staying in a hotel Penthouse as his house is being renovated, he meets Miranda, one of the maids doing room service. He instantly becomes attracted to her and requests that she be the only maid to clean his room.
Miranda is at school, working a couple of jobs to make ends meet. She certainly doesn't need to fall for a Hockey player who thinks very highly of himself.
Unfortunately life's plans don't always go as we would wish them to. Miranda sees a very different side of Jake and Jake has only ever wanted one night stands but there is something about hard working Miranda that really interests him and he is going to do everything he can to make her see him in a different light.
This is a light read, the type of book you just want to keep reading and I enjoyed it very much. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book and to Ms Rothert for another great read.
Unable to finish. Therefore will not review as this would be unfair
"Every once in a while, in the middle of our ordinary lives, love gives us a fairy tale.”
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved fairy tales--from Cinderella to Beauty in the Beast to modern romances that feel like fairy tales. They are magical and mesmerizing, as they transport me to a wonderful fantasy world that sometimes feels very raw and real. Hooked by Brenda Rothert is a heated and heartfelt hockey romance, a fairy tale full of feels. Oh did my FEELS FLY SKY HIGH!!!
Hooked hypnotized me from the start. This fun and flirty romance rendered an onslaught of emotions that oozed out, entangling me like a puck to the net, where I was caught and claimed by everything Hooked.
Hot captain for Chicago's hottest hockey team, Jake Birch, has to focus on his game and the coveted title.
"Being a hockey player, it’s like a golden ticket to Pussytown.”
Blue-grey-eyed, dark-haired, tall, and muscular Jake can’t afford any distractions, especially the gorgeous dark-haired and whiskey-eyed goddess with mile-long legs who happens to clean his hotel's penthouse suite.
"Hockey is my life. I eat, breathe, and sleep this sport, allowing very little distraction.”
No…he must keep his head in the game and stop thinking about his new beautiful distraction: the fire to his ice.
Miranda is beautiful, smart, and utterly cynical. Burned by men too many times to count, she doesn't trust them plus they are a distraction she neither needs nor can afford as her focus is finishing college.
"You like the view?”
“It’s okay, I guess.”
"Want me to drop the towel so you can get a closer look?”
Miranda may have sworn off men but it doesn't mean she can't enjoy the view of the Adonis who she catches in a compromising position. Miranda can't resist Jake's swarm and agrees to being friends with the hockey God. She is slowly falling under his spell.
"There is more to Jake Birch than most people ever see. And I want to see more.”
For the first time, the hockey playing manwhore with the big stick is thinking with his head and likes more than Miranda's perfect body. Jake is elated that for once, a woman sees the man instead of just the hockey star.
"I don’t know if it’s me or him who moves---maybe both of us---but in an instant our bodies are pressed together, my soft lines molding perfectly against his hard ones.”
Jake and Miranda's explosive electricity is unstoppable! I. WAS. ON. FIRE. The heat set me ablaze, as I burned along with this sensual and seductive story. The passion fanned those flames of fire, sparking even more desire.
"I can promise I’ll make you come harder than you ever have.”
Jake's dirty and delicious words ignited me everywhere! This hockey hunk with a huge heart is UTTER PERFECTION. I LOVED JAKE A LOT!
"There’s something about Miranda that’s just good. I want to be near that goodness.”
Miranda is slowly falling under Jake's spell, as I had already fallen. Oh goodness...how can she not fall for this amazing alpha who has a sweet side buried beneath all the sexy?!?
Fire to ice. Closed heart to closed heart. Will Miranda be the one to melt Jake's heart, hardened by a tragic past? Will Jake convince Miranda to take a chance on men again, particularly a hot hockey player with a huge heart and big stick?
I SWOONED HARD, my soul soared high, and my heart was hit like a hockey puck over this sweet, smoldering, and soulful story. Brenda Rothert thrust me into the thrilling hockey world, painting a vivid picture where I was at the games feeling the ache of these characters and the adrenaline rush of hockey, and it was one enthralling experience. I WAS ALL IN AND IT WAS SO PUCKING GOOD!
Hooked is one sweet, spicy, and soulful Cinderella tale. My heart is still hijacked by Jake along with my swooning soul that he owns too. Oh was I HOOKED on Hooked! Hook. Line. Sinker.
4.5 hooked on Hooked pucks (because hockey)
Miranda is a hard working woman. She works two jobs while putting herself through college. She is goal driven. However, one goal she did not count on was falling in love with hockey’s badass player, Jake Birch. The chemistry between these two was great. While Miranda is a sweet, likeable character, Jake was not so much; at least in the beginning. He was arrogant and a little bit of an a$$hole. But over time he begins to open up more and your realize deep down he’s a nice guy. Story does not feel rushed nor is there the instant rush to sleep together. It builds over time. Overall, it is a good, sweet, clean book and I look forward to others by this author. Review posted on Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play and Ibooks.
