As sports romances go you would think they will all be the same the athlete getting the girl easily. Well Brenda Rothert changes that and brings us a guy, Jake, who yes is hot and athletic but also filled with guilt. Then you have Miranda who in so many ways feels like an old woman trying to make ends meet. These two together have one thing in common I loved that Brenda Rothert did, willpower. For Jake, hockey has always been his thing but lately he wants something more and with Miranda he see`s what has been missing from his life. Now Miranda I loved for no matter how much charm and kisses Jake throws her way she puts her foot down. She is strong, hardworking but man with Jake she see`s how beautiful she really is. Brenda Rothert just rocked in this book and highly recommended for you will love Jake and Miranda together making you want more of Brenda`s sports romance.
The couple's meet-cute is pretty hilarious. Their early interactions are pretty interesting; it's always fascinating to see the collision of the upper and lower echelons of society, and the inherent misunderstandings that ensue.
This was a bit too New Adult for me (the characters are borderline emotionally immature, which I generally ultimately find annoying. But still, a pretty well-plotted story, with characters that are finely drafted.

Hooked was amazing. I was rooting for the characters the whole time and just fell in love with the characters from page one.
Miranda is poor and poor can get working two jobs to put herself through school. While cleaning a bedroom one day she meets Jake a stuck-up hockey player who must have everything exactly as he wants it. Miranda is not putting up with that and gives Jake an attitude he’s never seen before from a woman. Now Jake can’t get her out of his mind and knows he has to up his game to make Miranda his. Too bad one bad bj would wind him in deep trouble with his team because now the bosses’ daughter is forcing him to go out with her.
Ah this book was sooo good. Miranda is trying to put herself through school and has little time for a social life. Because of this Jake and her end up actually dating instead of just having sex all the time. They become closer and closer through slowly dating each other. Jake despite being a bit of a player was a sweetheart who cared about his team and Miranda.
I don’t want to say too much but I loved this story. I loved the actual romance between character wasn’t just about sex. The characters were so cute and I loved how realistic they were. The whole story was phenomenal and I am so happy I got to read about their love story.

Hooked is a good afternoon read, it is full of romance and headstrong characters. I really did not care for Jake; Miranda was more down to earth and easier to connect with. As a couple they did balance each other out well, which redeemed Jake slowly. The cast of characters is pretty small which allowed them to focus on the main couple. The plot was a very quick moving plot; and easy to follow. I did enjoy reading Hooked, liked Mirandas’ work ethic. I would have loved to see more hockey details weaved into the novel, all we really knew is he was the captain of his team, Jake’s position and very few details about each game. I felt very little emotion while reading Hooked, which was disappointing to me; I wanted to feel connected to the story. Rotherts’ work had great appeal and potential, however sadly it fell a little short in reaching them.
My first book by Brenda Rothert and it will not be my last. Jake is the captain of the Chicago hockey team and a well know asshole. Miranda is a two job working college student who has no time for dating as she is focusing on her future. Jake and Miranda meet at the Dupont Hotel as Jake is staying there while his house is being renovated, Miranda is his maid. Jake likes that he has to work to get Miranda to even talk to him and go on a date with him. Miranda can't believe someone like Jake even wants to date her. As we delve deeper into their relationship Jake's past is explained which can bring some tears to the eyes. I found it funny that Miranda is the one pushing for the physical relationship, while Jake wants to wait to make it more meaningful.

Great story. Sexy and fun. Fast paced standalone with great characters.I read this book in a matter of hours. Miranda is a maid at an upscale hotel. She has the boss from hell but she needs this job. She works two jobs and goes to school. So when she meets Jake, she is not impressed with his arrogance and his sense of entitlement. Jake, however, is very impressed with Miranda. He wears her down with persistence and charm. Everything looks good on the surface. But Jake has a secret. The secret eventually turns into a sticky situation. With some drama and a little groveling they get their HEA.
I thoroughly enjoyed Hooked, the story of bad boy hockey player Jake Birch and Miranda Carr, part-time student, part-time hotel maid, who met Jake while cleaning his room. I'm not mad keen on stories written in the first person, and this one is, but it's done pretty well and most of the time it works well. Throughout the story we move between Jake's and Miranda's points of view. Both are strong characters whom I liked. The plot and pace is good though there is a secondary character, Hailey, who is a bit unrealistic at times, however if you're a fan of hockey player romance you'll like this story.
I loved this one! Miranda is a strong heroine who works hard and supports herself. Jake is a hockey player. The two of them together had amazing chemistry. This book was angsty but well worth it. I am picky about my sports romances and I have to say this is a new favorite of mine. I can't wait to read whatever she writes next!
Miranda is putting herself through college working two jobs and one of those is a maid at a rich hotel. Jake Birch is a hockey playboy with more money than sense. Living in the hotel but all he does is complain and Miranda loses it on him after she had too much. She puts him in his place. Thinking she definitely fired so surprised when Jake reauest her to be his private maid. Jake has an instant connection with Miranda but now isnt the time to find the one. He stuck pretending the team owners daughter and him are a couple so he cant get caught with Miranda. And when she finds out about it she gonna be mad. But what's more important love or money.

What a captivating read. This is my first book by Brenda Rothert and now I have to go back and read her other books.
This is a sweet romance with a bit of sadness and some witty fun thrown in.
Jake, a NHL Hockey Player (and a player himself), is staying at the Dupont Hotel while his apartment is being redone. In walks the maid, sassy Miranda who is not afraid to throw down some comments. She is working 2 jobs while putting herself through school. She lives in an apartment in Chicago, with her sister, Paige, who is going to school to be a vet. The two have a very tight bond.
The two strike up a conversation with a slow building relationship. Of course there are stumbling blocks. One being Hailey, the team owner's daughter who is a psycho and clings to Jake and what she thinks is a relationship with him. The other is a secret that Jake keeps from everyone about his brother.
As the story unfolds, we learn what happened to his brother, Dustin, and how it has caused him to be the way he is in his life.
Miranda is his shining life and she makes him a better person. She is not in it for the money or fame that comes with Jake, but for the person that Jake is.
I really enjoyed watching their relationship blossom.

The characters were exceptionally written and I fell in love with them from the very first page. This story has lots of drama and emotions in some parts only adding to the fantastic story. This was a fast- sweet read. Much needed read after numerous dark reads. Its about knowing your place and knowing when to stick to your guns and then other times when you let your pride go so you can realize that HEA. The story guarantees an alpha, a tough gritty heroine, and a HEA with a dash of sexy humor.
Genre: Romance - Sports
Stand-alone: Yes
Part of a Series: Yes? Brenda Rothert has another NHL series Fire on Ice but I don't think this one is part of that series.
POV: Alternating Miranda and Jake
Steam-level: Quite toasty after it warmed up a bit:
5/5
This is the second book I've read by Brenda Rothert and I have to say that i really like her writing style. Hooked is the perfect mix of story and steam. It makes you think about tough issues about love and loss and runs the gamut of emotions. Miranda is cynical after he last boyfriend cheated on her. She's independent and feisty. She speaks her mind, hates her boss but knows how to filter her mouth to keep her job. Jake is the arrogant hockey player who's closed off emotionally and a bit of a jerk (they use a stronger word to describe him but I can't use that one here). These two clash is a battle of wills and attraction. Throw in a crazy girl that Jake is forced to "exclusively date" and the sparks fly.
Rothert did an excellent job in building emotional and sexual tension. The characters stayed true to themselves while growing as both individuals and a couple. I laughed and cried and found myself smiling throughout the book. I highly recommend Hooked. It kept me engaged and glued to my Kindle.
