His to Cherish by Stacey Lynn is a page turning read that I read in one sitting.
I Couldn't put it down for a second and highly Recommend it to all readers.
A roller-coaster of emotions focus strongly in this one. When Chelsea hears screams, and rushes out of the house to help two young teenagers in the street, she gets more than she bargained for. One of the boys was hurt badly, while skateboarding on the street, and dies soon after during surgery. His father Aidan, overcome with grief, finds comfort and peace being around Chelsea, and a budding friendship and eventually romance begins to form. I liked this one, and the story is good. Did feel like some of the sexual details were more than needed, but easy to skim at times. would recommend.
This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you
Aiden has had a tragic event happen in his life with the loss of his son, so he is going through some major grief. He’s known Chelsea for a while and has had a crush on her but never acted on it, but they grow closer as Chelsea tries to be there for him. There’s some really good passion between them and they do have some sweet moments. I wasn’t a fan of how Chelsea was expected to deal with Aiden’s shifts in moods; there were times she wouldn’t even know that she supposedly did something wrong, but their friends would sort of force her to be there for him. Yes, he needs to be given a little leeway, but Chelsea went above what one would expect of someone entering into a new relationship with someone; she has a good heart. She gets treated poorly often, so it would’ve been nice if she was more vocal about her displeasure. The book is mainly Chelsea’s POV with some chapters from Aiden’s; I would’ve liked to have a few more Aiden chapters to get a better feel for how he feels about Chelsea. They have good chemistry; they are good for each, but I did feel like Chelsea was too accommodating at times and deserved more in return. Aiden was understandably not himself; he’s dealing with something very difficult, so it’s tough to blame him for some of his actions. You can tell he’s normally a nice guy, so you want to support him. Aiden and Chelsea are both characters you want good things for, but I felt myself standing up for Chelsea more because no one else really does. It was good to see the past characters from the previous books; although, I could’ve definitely done without all the men being ogled constantly by the women in this book. Yes, they are hot and have nice butts, but I don’t need to read about it so many times. It was still fun to see how the other couples are doing. An entertaining, heartfelt romance. Well written story that kept me turning the page.
Chelsea, the heroine in this somewhat melancholy tale, struggles with self-esteem issues thanks to her selfish ex-husband who criticized her for being infertile, something she was not aware of until after they’d married. She’s found joy in her life as a school librarian and blessed woman of many loyal friends. She admired her neighbor, Aidan from afar for 2 years, but she never thought they’d be brought together by tragedy.
When Aidan’s son Derrick dies from a freak accident, the grief he suffers is almost unbearable. Being a mother myself, I can’t imagine going through this, and although this is a very realistic circumstance, it was somewhat difficult for me to handle. My heart ached for Aidan and I wondered how this romance would be pulled off in the midst of such sadness. I must say, Lynn pulled it off. I was glad there was mention that Chelsea and Aidan both had been crushing on each other as it prevents readers from feeling like they were ONLY brought together by the tragedy, although that is what spurned them forward – in a way. Being Derrick’s librarian and neighbor, it was not a stretch that Chelsea would show up at the wake and funeral as well as offer support to the grieving father. At no point did she think to use his pain to finally show her interest, it just works out that way. It’s not unusual that Aidan would lean to her, not only because of her caring personality, but it’s natural for someone in pain to seek comfort.
There’s some moments where we get to release our breath and take a break from the sadness, but Lynn always keeps things real. I would’ve liked the relationship to develop over a longer period of time. The rush took away from the authenticity of the development. It was nice for me to revisit Fireside and I look forward to the next in the series.
I loved the Fireside crew. Though they all had to deal with some sad and heavy things, and these books had me crying on the train I loved every second of it. Each book dug more and more into my hear and I didn't want to put any of them down. Great Series.
Bring on the ice cubes because that book was a scorcher! Loved it.
Everything happens for a reason - these words are sometimes easier said than believed, but to Aidan and Chelsea - their romance can't be described any other way. Heatfelft story that kept me reading well into the night.
This was such an emotional read. There was no way that I was able to put this read down. From the moment that His to Protect finished I knew that things were not going to be good in the next book. I couldn’t believe what had happened to Derrick. The amount of crying that I did was oh my. The tears would not stop trailing down. My heart broke for Aidan. He lost his little boy and things would never be the same for him. He was going to have to learn to be alone in his home. He was going to have to learn how to spend Derrick’s birthday without him. But what he didn’t see coming was that the woman that he had a secret crush on would help him with his mourning. But it would only work if he wouldn’t push her away and act like a jerk.
Aidan and Chelsea were perfect for each other. They both liked each other but they both never did anything about it until that horrible day when the doctor told Aidan they did everything possible for his son. When Aidan seeked Chelsea out the first time it helped him a bit. The more time past the more time he spend with Chelsea and they got into a routine together. But something changed between them and lines were starting to blur. Chelsea was a woman that had lost a lot. The man that she married, the man that should have been there for her through thick and thin left her. She had not been able to get pregnant and he just left. She hadn’t been in any serious relationship since then but being with Aidan felt right for her. But something happened one night he hurt her and she just wouldn’t be with Aidan anymore. He knew that he hurt her and he knew he needed to repair what he did. These two characters are going to go through so much but in the end they both help each other heal.
His to Cherish was an amazing read. Aidan and Chelsea were perfect for each other. The chemistry between them is sensual and passionate. They made the perfect couple.
Received ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an Honest Review
This is the first book I read by Stacey Lynn, His to cherish is so well written and the words so powerful. The author set the tone of the book on page one and it was a rollercoaster of emotions.
If you like books that make you feel, cry and feel so many emotions .... this one is for you.
OMG get your box of tissues ready!
We finally get Aiden's story whom we met in the previous books in this stories. Book #2 leaves you begging for Aiden's story after the tragic loss of his son. This book will pull at your heart strings as a parent tries to overcome the death of his only child and how those around him deal with their loss while trying to figure out how to be there for their friend.
Chelsea bugged me at times. It's clear she has very low self worth and I just kept waiting for her to realize what she deserves. At the same time I don't think Aiden ever helped her realize what she deserved. I wanted a huge grand effort, and the final one got close but it just wasn't enough for me.
Still I loved this story. It truly made you look at life differently and appreciate what you have. Keep your tissues handy because with Aiden you will cry.
This book was not what I was expecting at all, but I really enjoyed it. From the very first page I was hooked, wanting to know how these characters were going to handle what had been thrown their way. This is the third book in the Fireside series but can be read as a stand alone.
I found this story to tackle a unique storyline full of grief with grace and tact. Admittedly, I found myself reaching for tissues way more than I anticipated, but I appreciated the way the author took me on this journey with these characters. If the mention of a child passing away is too much you may want to steer away from this book. It is certainly not anything taken lightly by the author and it’s definitely a heavy subject in the book.
Aidan and Chelsea share a connection that nobody wants to share. A single father and a middle school teacher (no, that’s not the only connection) come together through their own sense of grief. The pacing of their relationship felt right to me-but I’m sure some others may disagree. There were parts to both characters that I didn’t love, particularly when I thought he was treating Chelsea a bit like a doormat. However, whether I liked it or not, I think it was true to the nature of these characters. My problem with this book was that I didn’t get enough of Aidan’s POV on things. I found myself wondering what exactly was going through his head.
This book compelled me enough to go back and start this series, as I hadn’t read the first two books. I enjoyed the supporting characters here and look forward to discovering their stories. If you’re looking for an emotional read that has a side of romance, this book will fit the bill for you.
Was definitely not ready for the emotional roller coaster ride that was this novel. I should have known, being fairly warned by the synopsis. However, the drama starts from page one and doesn’t let up until the very end. That being said, it was a well-developed and love story filled with growth and healing.
Honestly I avoid such intensely emotional reads. While it had a good storyline and characters, it was too emotionally taxing to read and enjoy.
This was a heartbreakingly beautiful read. Tragic and yet sooo beautiful. Aidan suffers a horrible loss and finds the one thing that can heal or break him; Chelsea. I was crying or teary the whole beginning of this book. It's so well written that your heart shreds for the characters and all they suffer. Your soul shines for them in joy and happiness. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
What a sad book.
When I started reading it, I wasn’t expecting how much this book would hit me in the feels. I mean, I was ugly crying for most of the book. Maybe because I have a child that is a few years younger than Derrick was when he died but I was really affected by Aidan’s raw grief in this book. And oh boy, was it raw and it made me cry.
Aidan was a single dad who raised Derrick by himself after Derrick’s mother jetted when he was 2. Everything that Aidan did was for Derrick and when Derrick died, Aidan was lost and almost consumed by his grief. He would sit in his backyard and drink himself into a stupor. He was also trying to avoid woman he called “vultures”. They are Derrick’s friends single mothers who would come over and offer to “comfort” him. He didn’t want that. What he wanted was Chelsea but he was too consumed by grief to even begin to make a move.
Chelsea’s story was equally sad. Her husband divorced her because she couldn’t have children. Which is sad enough but she ran into her husband and his new wife, who was pregnant. Talk about a burn. She has, for the most part, has come to term with that she was “half a woman”….as her ex had told her. To say I greatly disliked her ex is an understatement.
Chelsea was also there for Derrick’s skateboarding accident. She stayed with him, cradling his head on her stomach. She stayed in the hospital while he was undergoing surgery and she was there when Aidan, who had just heard about the accident, was told that Derrick had died on the operating table. She was there for Aidan the day of the funeral and for those awful weeks afterwards. Forget that she was very attracted to him, he didn’t need that type of attention. What he needed was a friend and that is what she gave him.
The side story of Derrick’s best friend was heart wrenching. When I thought this book could get any sadder, the author threw in Shane’s side of the story and the guilt he was carrying. Like I said….this book is a waterworks factory.
When the relationship between Aidan and Chelsea turned physical, the sex scenes were hot, hot, hot. But what made it even hotter for me was that they were friends for months before they even had sex and when they did, the sex meant something to them both.
This book was told mainly from Chelsea’s point of view with Aidan’s showing up every so often. Which I liked and it worked for this book.
The end of the book was definitely not what I expected and I loved it. What Aidan said at the very last line made my heart melt and again, waterworks.
How many stars will I give His to Cherish: 5
Why: This is not an easy book to read. Not at all and I am sure it wasn’t easy to write. The author did a great job capturing a parent’s raw grief over losing a child to a preventable accident and she did a great job showing while it might get better, the pain never goes away. The romance between Chelsea and Aidan was also very realistic and I loved how it started off as friends, moved to lovers and then, after Aidan’s screw up, to boyfriend/girlfriend. I liked that the sex was secondary and not in the forefront of this story (and don’t get me wrong, it was very hot when they did end up bumping uglies). The secondary storylines, while hard to read, were wrapped up in such a way that you couldn’t help but wonder what is going to happen to Mandy and Shane.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Explicit sex (of course), language, some mild violence. And also some pretty intense scenes of grief.
**I chose to leave this review after reading an advance reader copy**
This book really broke my heart. As a parent, I truly can’t imagine losing a child. The anguish that it must be. I don’t see how anyone can recover from that. Aidan lost his teenage son in a tragic accident. Chelsea becomes the only person that Aidan will be around and their relationship starts to take form.
Stacey Lynn really delivered a heartbreaking book about finding love after a tragedy.
What an emotional journey HTC was! My heart was in my throat within the first pages of reading. His to Cherish navigate a multitude of emotions…. loss, grief, loneliness, surviving, healing, forgiveness. This book will tug at your heart and make you wish that you could make things all better.
Another broken, lonely man. And yep I loved him. Reeling from the loss of his son, Aiden withdraws from his friends, but feels a special connection to Chelsea, the school librarian.
Aiden needed someone to show him that life was worth living and Chelsea was that person. But Chelsea had her own insecurities to work through and Aiden eventually showed her that he was the one to help her through all her doubts.
Lots of ups and downs for this couple, but they came out stronger through it all.
Definitely want to go back and read the first 2 books of this series to get the stories of the other characters mentioned in this book!
This book hit really close to home as I have a friend who just lost her son over the holidays. It's amazing what a person can get through with the right support group of friends and the strength they find to keep living. (RIP Stevie)
This was one of the best romance books I have ever read. Watching the heart wrenching story at the beginning of the book grow into a beautiful love story was so captivating. The story held my attention from the very first page until the last page. I just could not put this book down once I had started it. I enjoyed the lives of all of the characters in this book. I have not read the previous books in this series, but I plan to back up and read them all. Thank you Stacey Lynn for such a beautiful love story.
