I could not put this book down until it was finished...I guess you can call it second chance romance. I absolutely and wholeheartedly loved Mark!!! That man has stolen my heart with his love for his daughter and they way even though he knows that he and Daisy couldn't be more wrong for each other, he still goes after her and their HEA.
Now let's talk about Daisy for a moment: I understood all her reasons for not wanting to date military men...but I was a bit ticked off by her "running". I'm not sure if I were in Mark's shoes that I would keep going after her. But then again maybe that's the main reason I like this book so much - the fact that he didn't let her get away.
" I want to know you, inside and out, and I want you to know me. I want to be your best friend. Your partner. Your lover. And maybe, one day, your spouse and the father of your children." . *swoon*

Though I have been a fan of this series and Diane Alberts writing, this one failed to impress me. I found the characters difficult to connect with and the romance did not click with me.
Thank you to the publisher for the chance to read and review this title.
Received in exchange for a honest review.
First book I have read in the Schillings Agency series and I am definitely going to read more.
First the writing flows and we have a story where two people had love and somehow it was taken away. They are trying to protect their hearts with meaningless sex. They meet each other and something stirs. Only there are complications and that is what keeps this story more interesting.
Mark is a great guy and he does have a little girl who steals your heart. He is a great father and trying to protect her and his heart. You swoon over his actions at times but also growl at his fears. He does fall for Daisy but like Daisy fights it for so long. His fight is more at the end when events scare him and he makes his way back. Daisy’s are at the beginning.
Daisy is stubborn and kind hearted. Both are loyal to a fault. Watching her fall is fun and entertaining for she fights it for a long time. The chemistry between the two is through the roof and watching them interact you can see a tension of attraction and fear an they war with themselves and their feelings.
It is a entertaining, sweet story with the little girl but also very intimate as we see two people push beyond their fears and let go of the past. They find a way to heal and move on and help each other in the process as they fall in love with one another but do have some entertaining bumps along the way to happiness and each other.
His Best Mistake is book 6 in the Shilling Agency series by Diane Alberts but I found that it worked well as a standalone.
Both Mark and Daisy are afraid to fall in love again after losing their respective first loves. I get it. It's hard to put yourself out there after experiencing something like that. They have great chemistry though and are pretty much perfect for each other which is why their friends are trying to get them together. They really only planned on one night together but of course that is not enough.
I was rooting for these two to be able to get past their hurt and realize that it's ok to be afraid but it's also ok to love again. Diane Alberts did a great job with this one and now I want to read the other books in this series.
What can I say about His Best Mistake? So, we have Mark Matthews and he works at Shillings. He's also a single father to Ginny. We don't see a lot of Ginny in the story. We also meet Daisy O'Rourke she's an officer of the law. Everyone has been trying to get Mark and Daisy together, because they think they would be sooooo perfect together. They kind of are, because they are both emotional damage from losing a loved one. Both are afraid to love again, because they don't want to feel the devastating effects again. Both of them are in somewhat risky jobs, she's a cop, and he's in security.
Okay, His Best Mistake is a pretty straightforward kind of read. Yes, they have their ups and downs, because they are both trying to conquer their feelings about the past. I liked Mark a lot. He was sweet and understanding, while Daisy I struggle. I truly struggled with her. I wanted to go really, do you have to be that way he was just asking a question. She was kind of rude to Mark here and there, and she knew she was in the wrong.
Overall, His Best Mistake was an okay kind of read. There were things I loved, like at the beginning when he was super sympathetic. Oh my gosh, totally a keeper kind of guy. She drove me kind of crazy. It might be her profession and have to prove that she's just as good as the guys. Anyway, I did like their overall chemistry. An all right read.

I am a fan of Diane's books but I just couldn't get into this one so I had to put it down.
This is book 6 in the Shillings Agency series, every one of which I've loved. After seriously tragic pasts, Mark and Daisy don't want anything serious, so a no-strings-attached fling is exactly what they both need. Except things don't always stay unemotional when hot sex is involved...
Daisy and Mark meet at a bar and plan on a one night stand. They don't use their real names and no phone numbers are exchanged. Explosive. Mark is a former military now working at a security firm, raising his daughter alone after his wife died in Afghanistan. He has sworn off any woman in a dangerous job. Daisy is a police officer who between her father and ex, wants nothing to do with military men. The one night stand was perfect as neither are right for each other. But when they meet up again through friends, they find out that one night isn't enough. As a relationship forms, they both have issues with each other's choices and need to figure out if it's worth it to rise above. I love Diane's books ... she takes two unlikely people and puts them together; then the reader gets to see how it all unfolds as the characters figure it out. Brilliant!
