I got this book a few years ago on NetGalley, but am only getting round to reading it now, and I’m not sure I’d really recommend it.

Ciuciu uses her own experience of struggling to lose ‘baby weight’ as a springboard into discussion of food fixation - how women (clearly the target audience) can have unhealthy relationships with food, which will never satisfy, and how we can overcome this while ‘filling’ ourselves with devotion to God.

If this sounds over simplistic, that’s because it is. Ciuiu quotes lots of well-known Bible verses, lots of other Christian writers, and gives lots of fairly standard advice - resulting in a book which is a well-intentioned amalgamation of fairly well-known, perhaps even cliched, ideas. I don’t think this book would help anyone with an eating disorder, and I’m not even sure the ordinary Christian woman (since men clearly aren’t meant to read it!) seeking a more healthy perspective on food would find anything new here.

This is an amazing book and I would not call it a diet book it is a book that changes your life - no - your whole life and mind regarding how you live regarding food. It hits you in the face right off without mincing any words that food is your idol - yes your idol - I never really thought of it that way but it put it this way - "ask yourself if any of these statements are true of you: I could never givce up my favorite food or I spend more time and energy thinking about food than I do growing in my relationship with CHRIST. I find more delight and happiness in food, or than in my relationship with CHRIST. If you answered yes to any of the statements above, chances are you're turning to food as an idol," MIND BLOWING isn't it? This book tells you this but it doesn't just leave you there it takes you there and then it helps you go deeper and then heal and break the bondage of the devil and let GOD set you FREE, FREE FREE. How good that feels to finally be free. You really need to get this book if you are struggling with food and I tell you this book is worth every second you spend with it.

Full is a cut above the traditional "battle with food" books out there. Asheritah pours her heart into this book in a tangible way. Right away, she speaks a powerful truth about the hold over us that food can have. Her statement "the reason we’re struggling is because we’re trying to fight a spiritual battle with worldly weapons" is insightful and a reminder that without God we are conquerors over nothing. This book can be used individually or with a small group. It gives specific scriptures, goals, and study questions to help you on your journey to a life free from the power of food addiction. I love that Ciuciu is willing to share her own story of success and failures as well as the stories of others. Her adage to "Harness the grace of community" is also a reminder that together we are stronger. She walks the reader through ways that food can help us and also how it can become our master. Life seasons are discussed as well as health issues and times that food needs may change. This book is not a diet plan or a lose weight quick guide. It's a spiritual journey into replacing food addictions with Gods healing grace and power.

Full: Food, Jesus, and the Battle for Satisfaction by Asheritah Ciuciu is more a spiritual book then it is a diet one. Anyone with food issus would find that this book tackles their struggles head on, especially women. This is a Christian author writing to Christians. That is clear from the beginning, it is after all published by a leading Christian press, Moody Publishers. However, I do think that a non-Christian would benefit from reading this book and may even see the need to become a believer; not just to win the spiritual battle over food either. I especially liked the self-assessment and the closing thoughts of the book which brought everything in a clear and concise manner.

The author gives much “food for thought” in the premise of the book. Such as where does true satisfaction come from, certainly not food or materials things for that matter. Within the pages of the book, the author relates her own journey as well as the stories of others. However, the causes for obesity may have been over simplified. There are many factors that play a part in that, not just a person’s thought process. Still I found the preoccupation with the opinions concerning food, dieting along with the lies we tell ourselves as well as all the “talk” that is done about food to be thought provoking. Do we spend more time thinking and talking about Jesus as we do food?

I'll be buying copies of this book for my daughters and students. Asheritah shows how food fixation is simply the devil's plan to keep us seperated from the only one who can make us fill full--God. The discussion questions at the end of each chapter are perfect for groups and individual journaling prompts. She takes the reader on a journey into a deeper relationship with Jesus and points out how addictions and fixations get between us the One who loves us.

The author shares her own personal battle with food addiction. She provides various Biblical techniques needed to overcome the addiction. Fasting, praying, worshiping and studying scriptures that include Jesus and the Holy Spirit are implemented. The testimonies of others also give encouragement in making lifestyle changes.
The book is well written provides an easy read. It includes scriptures, study questions and a survey to see if you have a food addiction which can be used in a Bible study or further study, I will recommend this book to my friends to read as well as implement it in to one of our future Bible study group.
