I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It took me a while to finally read this one and I’m not sure why. This book was really good. I enjoyed the story a great deal and ended up not being able to put it down. This is book 3 in the Highland Pride series. Iain Campbell is good at playing the bad guy but when he and Cait meet up again the romance just grows. I loved every second of it.
I loved Iain and Cait's story!
Everyone thinks that Iain is a traitor to his country. What they don't know is that he is working with the English so that he can further the cause of Scotland. When Iain takes his injured right-hand man to Cait's for healing, she makes it clear that she wants nothing to do with him. But as he spends more and more time with her, he can't seem to fight his increasing attraction to her.
Every time Cait see Iain, she is reminded of her dead husband, whom she dearly loved. She doesn't want him around her. She is also helping transport Scottish rebels and doesn't want Iain, with his English loyalties, to find out what she is doing. Like Iain though, the more time they spend together, the greater the attraction between them grows.
Can these two get past their differences to find their HEA?
This was a great addition to the Highland Pride story! I loved the bantering between Cait and Iain. I was laughing out loud throughout the story! I can't wait to see what Cullen has in store for us next.
I have read some of Sharon's other works and I have enjoyed them all so far. As time goes on it is clear this author is getting better and better at her writing and capturing me in her stories. The characters are interesting and the story line keeps me wanting to read more. I love the historical aspects of going back in time to the highlands. Sharon also in my eyes finds a great balance of writing and romance. If you enjoy reading books about hunky Scottish men you must pick up up this book or one of her others. I would recommend it for anyone also looking for a light read.
The third, and presumably the last, installment in the Highland Pride novels brings us the story of Cait and Ian. While I wouldn't have guessed Ian would be getting his own story from the previous two books, I was excited to find out more about him.... unfortunately, I built Ian up too much in my head so his story just fell flat.
I would have liked a more historical factor, but I won't dwell on that issue because Sharon Cullen has always been as close to historically accurate as possible in her books.
Iain Campbell is laird and feels responsible for all the people of his clan. He feels responsible for the death of Cait's husband years before and had avoided her. At the start of this novel, however, he brought an injured man to her home, knowing that she has renowned healing skill. They are constantly in each others' orbits after this, and Iain has to confront his feelings for her, as well as the mounting tensions between clans and coming from England.
This is the third book in a trilogy, but it all made sense even without reading the first two books. Cait's history is one of intense tragedy and loss, starting from her birth. Everyone she has ever cared about was eventually lost to death or estrangement, so it's difficult to earn her trust. Iain walks a fine line between his Scottish and English heritage, especially with England trying to tighten its stranglehold on the Scots.
They're a likable hero and heroine, even with all of the background hurt between them, and the other characters in the book also feel believable. There are so many obstacles in the way of these two getting together, it almost felt as though it couldn't be the traditional happily ever after of a romance novel. There was a very sudden change in circumstances at the end of the book that allows it to happen; I wonder if it would be less of a shock to me if I had read the first two books of the trilogy. All in all, I enjoyed the book and was rooting for Cait to finally find happiness.
I loved this book it is Cait Campbell a widow and the tie that Iain Campbell has to her and her deceased husband and the separate games they are playing with the British . Which could get either of them killed . Will they be able to help the Scots or will they be found out . What happens?
For many generations the Campbells were not fondly revered in the Highlands especially in the time following Culloden. When the choice was between Scotland and England the Campbell's tended to choose the English. Iain Campbell is loyal to Scotland but not fully accepted by the Scots since his grandmother was English. Although it appears like his ancestors, he sides with the English, but he is playing a dangerous game as an unofficial spy, gathering information where he can. Cait Campbell is the widow of Iain's personal guard who died protecting Iain. After four years they discover each other, painfully trying to set aside the past and its tragedies. Will Iain be able to convince other lairds to work with the English in order to save Scotland from worse penalties? Will Cait and Iain let old hurts go in order to create a life together. The telling of their story is a most worthwhile read. This is the third and final book in Highland Pride series. Though not my favorite of the series, it was an enjoyable read. I do wish there was at least one more book in the series, I would love to know how these characters fared over the following years.
Iain and Cait's story is perfection. I really liked the banter between the two and the slow development of their feelings. It felt realistic and full of different emotions. I enjoyed the over all story line and is a great third book in the series. It was nice to see the characters from the previous books and I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I definitely recommend to any highland historical fiction lover and I will definitely be adding this author on my must buy list!

Cait lost her husband and child and parents and her lover. She lost her grandparents disowned her when she married John as they didn’t agree to the marriage. Cait is terrified of forming any attachments and has no interaction with anyone but those she helps. Cait is the local healer but she heals both the English and Scottish. Iain lost his best friend John who was Cait’s husband and Iain is considered a traitor by most but he doesn’t care as long as he can help Scotland. Iain feels guilty over John’s death and stays away from Cait who lives in a cottage on the end of the Campbell property. But she also blames Iain for John’s death four years earlier. Cait also helps outlawed Scottish people who want to leave Scotland and go to Canada to live. Iain is both a Highland Chieftain and an English Lord. Iain is able to spy for Scotland. Then Cait is attacked and beaten by an English Soldier and when the soldier is found dead Iain is arrested for his murder. Iain was intrigues and attracted to Cait. Iain had slowly built feelings for Cait and her for him.
I liked this story but it drags in places for me. But I basically enjoyed the story. I liked how Cait helped the people escape to Canada and i liked how Iain was really true to the country he really loved even if most everyone thought he was a traitor. Iain helped as much as he could by being a spy. I was glad to see Cait start to get over the losses she suffered in her life. This had a good plot and showed you some of the Scottish history that i found interesting. I don’t think this needed to be so long after Iain and Cait got together just felt like added stuff that really wasn’t needed. Especially since I have gone to Scotland. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend
Cait blames Iain for the death of her husband 4 years earlier. Still grieving the loss of her husband and also daughter, she's not sure she can ever forgive him.
Iain has tried to give Cait the peace and solace she needs, living alone on the edge of Campbell land as a healer, but the English soldiers are becoming more unyielding and terrifying every day. In fearing for her safety, Iain starts to feel like there's more than guilt and hate between him and Cait.
This is a thrilling historical romance with some twists and turns. 4 stars.
I've read quite a few of these books. I'll say, this one wasn't as exciting as the others. But, towards the end, it certainly picks up. The Scottish accent always does it for me. I enjoy how this author has found a way to 'write' that accent. When you're reading it, you can hear in your head, how the words would sound. It certainly adds to the experience of reading these! I love the strong characters, the sexy men, and the stubborn women. I will say, it was good to see Cait and Ian again though! This book was romantic no matter what and if you like highlanders and strong women, you need to pick this one up!
A wonderful story which I was drawn to buthe at the same time felt quite sad. The heroine has had to deal with a lot of death in her short life. Written well, Ienjoyed travelling their path and was taken far away from today.
I haven't read the first two and still enjoyed. But I will definitely go and look up book 1 and 3. Thank you for theverything introduction to a new author who I found had a wonderful way with words and successfully.had me clucking each page aso I could to see what happened next.
Cait Campbell is living on the border of Campbell and Sutherland land, alone. She has lived there for the past 3 years, since the death of her husband and working as the clan healer. She also is part of an underground network that moves Scottish fugitives through safe houses until safe passage to Canada can be obtained for them. She keeps the refugees in a secret room under her cottage, safe from the British and fellow Scots until another safe house is opened up. The only other person that knows about her activities is the leader of the Sutherland clan, Brice. He is the one who brings her the refugees and he is the one who takes them to the next safe house.
Cait lives apart from the clan by choice. She blames Iain, the Laird of the clan, for his death…seeing that John, her husband, was with him and saved Iain from being killed. So, she moved as far away from Iain as she could get and she ended up on the border of the Sutherland and Campbell land. She lives there, making a life for herself by being the clan healer and helping the fugitives. She also mourns the death of her husband and her 3-year-old daughter, who died the year before her husband did.
Iain comes thundering back into her life one night. She had just settled the latest group of refugees into the secret room when he comes up with his commander of the Campbell warriors, who had been shot by rievers while on patrol. Cait does her best to patch him up and orders Iain to leave her house. When he refuses, she tells him to stay in the barn.
Iain, who is still wracked with grief over John’s death, agrees. Shortly after he beds down in the barn, he was woken up by a noise from the outside. He witnesses Cait leading the refugees out of her house, to Sutherland, who then leads them into the woods.
Cait is afraid that Iain will find out about her harboring the refugees. Iain is well-known as an English supporter, much to the disgust of his fellow Scots. He is a friend of the Duke of Cumberland, or as the Scots call him, the Bloody Butcher. She assumes that since he has close ties with the English, that he would put the secret movement, along with herself and Sutherland, in jeopardy.
Adair, the man who was injured, has to stay at her cottage because he is running a fever and she wants to keep a close eye on him if he gets an infection. Which means that Iain will be there and that is the last thing that she wants. So she deals with it and with the memories of her husband and child.
Little does Cait, or actually all of Scotland, know that Iain is a spy. He is playing a very dangerous game by pretending to befriend the English so he could learn their secrets and use them to make Scotland a better, more peaceful place to live. It is a small price to pay for what he considers the greater good.
While Iain and Adair are staying with her, the redcoats (British) show up at her cottage. She provides care for them if they want it and if they show up at her cottage….even if she doesn’t like it. This group has stopped by her cottage often because one of them, Sergeant Halloway, has a bad back and needs her poultice to help ease the pain. He is also sweet on her, which Cait knows and she isn’t encouraging it.
During dinner that night, Cait, Adair and Iain are discussing who is stealing his cattle. They think that it is another clan, the MacGregor’s. The MacGregor’s have held a grudge against the Campbell’s for a very long time. It is during dinner that she discovers that Adair has a fever. After putting him to bed, Cait and Iain kinda have it out.
She learns about his promise to John, as John laid dying and his deep guilt over John’s death. Even after Iain telling Cait that he promised John that he would look over her, she still hates him. As they are having it out, they are interrupted by a boy who comes into Cait’s house and cries “Fire”.
It is after the fire that certain things are learned about her. She is the granddaughter of the Laird of the MacGregors and the Grahams. Her mother died giving birth to her and soon after, her father committed suicide. She was raised in both households and both households tried to get her to hate the other. Only thing, it didn’t work. If anything, it pushed her away and into the arms of her husband. When both of her grandfather’s’ found out, they both disowned her.
Cait is reunited with her grandfathers’ after 7 years. One grandfather openly regrets what happens and the other one hides his regrets. Everyone agrees that she shouldn’t be living by the forest alone but she disagrees. That is until the day she is attacked by a redcoat.
Everything after that is full of intrigue and romance.
Will Cait and Iain get past Cait’s bad feelings and fall for each other? Will she get caught harboring fugitives? Will she reconcile with her grandfathers? Will the redcoat make due on his promise of rape? Who is murdering the redcoats and will they be caught?
Want to know these answers? Read the book!!

Cait was a strong woman who has had a lot thrown at her in her lifetime. The deaths of her mother and father (before she could even meet them), her grandfather’s disowning her, her child dying, her husband dying and her lover dying. So it really didn’t surprise me when she had a small breakdown in the middle of the book. I cried with her when it happened.
Iain, however, I was on the fence with for about 60% of the book. He kept everything on the inside and it drove me absolutely crazy. But, when he finally opened up, he did with a bang. I also think that he was straddling both sides of the fence with the English/Scottish made me kinda “eh” with him. Again, though, my mind was changed once it was explained why he was doing what he was doing.
The sex scenes between Cait and Iain were hot but I had to giggle at the term “his red member”. I just had this image of a severely discolored penis….lmao. Even Cait addressed it as a red member. Made me wonder what those Highlanders were rolling around in previous to sex…haha.
The end of the book did keep me on my edge of my seat with the mystery of who was on the killing spree. It ended up being the last person that I thought it was and totally surprised me.
How many stars will I give Campbell’s Redemption: 4
Why: I really enjoyed reading this book after I got through the first couple of chapters. After that, the story totally took off for me. It wasn’t a light read by any stretch and that is what made it refreshing.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex and mild violence

Yea! Sharon Cullen's book three of her Highland Pride series. Iain Campbell and his "English sympathies" are fully explained. I knew Iain's story would be a good one, mysterious Lord who helps out his fellow Scottish people behind closed doors but plays nice nice to the brutal English army. It takes place a short time after the other books, after Culloden when the British were using any means necessary to control the Scottish rebellion and abusing the power they had. The people of Scotland were split in two groups, people who were tired of persecution and just wanted to be left alone and those who wanted to fight back and get Scotland back from British control. Iain was working both sides, he used his British birth right and connections to help the rebels where he could, all without their knowledge. They viewed him as a traitor and he was fine with that he helped where he could and hated the English just as much as his people. Cait hated Iain, she hated the fact that her husband was so loyal to Iain that he died protecting Iain. Cait is a healer and she will turn noone away not even the English soldiers her impartialness allowed a bit of leeway when it came to her they left her alone for the most part. But that was just a show for the English she helped the rebels hide out until they could escape on the ship to Canada.
Iain needed the help of Cait on of his men had been shot and she was the closest healer. He hasn't seen her since her husband's death he felt to guilty that he couldn't save him, that he died taking an arrow meant for Iain. Finally after five years Iain has the chance to apologize and he's going to start fulfilling his promise to look out for her. Cait doesn't want or need help from Iain or even her own stubborn Grandfather's who basically disowned her after she married. But now someone is going around killing English soldiers on Campbell land and very close to Cait's house it's causing the English to look a little to close at her. Iain is falling in love with Cait and when one English soldier tries to take liberties Iain is there to protect her he' willing to risk it all even if it means leaving her all alone again.
Overall it was a good story so very enjoyable, very emotional there at the end.
So much action and suspense with this book. Having Cait help protect those people and hide them away was so brave. The part that made me sad was not only that she has lost so much, but that she is put at risk of losing so much more. There is then the part when we find who who's family Cait is a part of and how being on Campbell land explains so much. Thankfully they find a way to be together even with all the obstacles they face.
I'm never one to turn down a highland romance. It's something about the historical setting, the kilts, the brusque alpha males and the strong minded women. Campbell's Redemption had all of that plus a murder mystery twist. Really, this book should have been right up my alley, but perhaps my inexperience with the other characters in this series was to my detriment. I felt like I didn't know either Iain or Cait. Their connection felt rushed and undeveloped. The setting continues to wow, but in my opnion this one just didn't give anything extra to the genre.
***4 "Deceitful" stars***
I was waiting for a long time for Iain Campbell's story and the only thing that i have to say is that i was right about him.... He wasn't anything like we thought he was....
But to be totally honest with you, if this was the last installment of the Highland Pride series, I'm a little bit disappointed because i think that something was missing...
I needed a closure about what happened with all this chasing between the Scotish and the English!!!
Except for that, i liked and this story very much, even though not as much as the previous two books!!!!
We had seen Iain Campbell in both the previous two books and he was appeared to be not very faithful to his country, but many times his actions was showing that he was hiding something...
And it was true, because Iain was playing a very dangerous game with the English soldiers... But damn, i needed something more in the building mystery around Iain's secrets!!!
Cait Campbell was a healer and she was living alone far away from the rest of the Campbell clan... Before 4 years, she had lost her daughter and her husband and from that moment she stopped rely to other people...
Cait hated Iain Campbell and that's why she believed that he was responsible for her husband's death and not only that but he was a traitor of his country and supporter of the English!!!
And just like that, one day Iain is showing up in Cait's doorstep and he is asking for her help and from that moment, everything is swifting between them...
Iain is feeling something new and he don't know how to act and Cait is seeing Iain for the man that he really is and not for whom he is trying to appear to the rest of the world...
But there is a chance for them when they are both playing a dangerous game in their own way for their country???
Will Cait trust Iain with her heart when she had lost already too much???
Will Iain allow to a woman to step up in his life and to himself to show his emotions???
I liked very much Iain and Cait... They were fitting really nice together and i loved their bickering very much!!!
Cait was a very strong and independent woman... She was taking great risks for the sake of her country but she was afraid of love, because every single one person that she loved, they left her in a way or another... So, she was against the idea to let Iain in her heart and her life...
Iain wasn't the man that we thought he was... He was wearing a mask almost all the time and when he was letting it fall out of place, he was vulnerable... and that was happening only around Cait.
He was playing a difficult game and he was so damn tired of that!!! But it was necessary!!! And Cait was a breath of life for him....
I don't know if this was the end (i suppose it was!!!) but i will miss those Highland warriors and their lasses very much!!!

At first I was hesitant to read another book about Scotland's troubled history, but once I began reading I really wanted to continue and I couldn't put it down. I cared about the characters and their views. I really wondered how it was going to end and I was still eagerly reading at the end.
