So I kinda like the idea of this.
But frankly I couldn't follow through.
I am not sure why, but just didn't work for me
I've found lots of great new dishes from this book. It's been very helpful in dealing with the dietary guidelines my doctor has given me.
Based on the word Detox in the title I was expecting one of those regimens involving souping for days etc. I was pleasantly surprised that this is not that. The idea here is that you eat organic, fresh foods to detox which works a lot better for me. She tackles the "No Excuses" right up front with helpful tips on how to resolve the excuses. The recipes are mostly vegetarian but there are notes on some to make them non-vegetarian or vegan. Each recipe has a code that indicates what it does/does not include (i.e GYEDNSV means gluten free, soy-free, egg free, dairy free, nut free, no sugar, vegan). She also indicates whether other options apply such as Freezer_Friendly, Kid Friendly, etc. There are a variety of recipes here that all sound amazing. Some examples would be Overnight Quinoa Pizza, Cashew Queso and Tuscan Bean Soup. I will definitely be trying the Strawberries and Cream Freezer Pops when it's strawberry season.
Lots of great recipes in this one. There's a range, but all very good for you. Great fresh meals to try.
This is a great book. Wonderful pictures & easy recipes. There is a wide variety of foods to try & with clear & simple directions.

so many detox recipes...... Each recipe are categorized under the cooking time required.......
hen I search for new recipes, I usually end up on Google, scrolling site by site until I stumble upon something delicious. It doesn’t matter that I have cookbook upon cookbook sitting on my kitchen shelf. Hopping online always seems easier. I can access recipes from anywhere, whether I’m at home on my couch or in the grocery store.
But there’s a whole world of cookbooks out there, filled with recipes I can’t find online. Thousands and thousands of new meals wait to be devoured (dramatic much?). If only I had the patience or time to look through them.
Which I finally found with No Excuses Detox by Megan Gilmore. I’d never heard of Megan Gilmore or her blog, Detoxinista, before. To be entirely honest, if I hadn’t received a review copy from NetGalley a few months ago, I probably never would’ve ever discovered this book. I’m the type of person who buys cookbooks in the discount aisle and then never reads them. But I felt compelled to read this one, if only to review it.
No Excuses Detox is divided into 8 sections and includes the basics of every cookbook. It has smoothies and other breakfast options, salads, soups, side dishes, apps and snacks, casseroles, stir-fries, and desserts. In this regard, there’s nothing special or groundbreaking. From Butternut Mac-n-Cheese to 5-Minute Freezer Fudge, the classics of any good food blog can be found within these pages.
However, there’s a twist. Like Budget Bytes, No Excuses Detox includes a price per serving amount under each recipe. This is a feature I wish every cookbook and blog included. One of my main excuses for not eating healthy is the price tag. Fancy flours and veggies can cost a pretty penny. No Excuses Detox does include gluten-free flours and nut butters and other “fancy” food items, but in an affordable way.
My one complaint is the lack of nutritional information, which I’ve come to view as a staple of food blogs and cookbooks. Sure, I can calculate it myself with the MyFitnessPal app, but it would be nice to have it done for me already (I’m lazy like that).
But I guess the most important part of a cookbook is if it actually contains yummy recipes. While I haven’t tried all 100 of them, I can say No Excuses Detox contains some tasty dishes. Personally, I’m a big fan of the Orange-Mango Creamsicle smoothie. If that smoothie sounds good to you, you’ll love every recipe No Excuses Detox has to offer.
Before reading this book, I didn’t know anything about the author. But, she has a previous book and a successful blog. After reading this book, I plan to follow her blog. In this book, Ms. ____ explains her natural view of detoxing by providing yummy recipes you will want to make and these will naturally (pun somewhat intended) replace the refined and/or processed foods you are currently eating. There is nothing earth shattering in this book. It is all very simple and common sense. After a chapter about stocking an appropriate cupboard, probably my biggest obstacle in cooking, No Excuses Detox includes 100 recipes with cost per serving and allergy icons. I have no clue how she determined costs and expect that the serving size would be considered a bit skimpy for most of the eaters in my house, but it gives you a relative idea about how expensive each recipe might be. Recipes are also noted for things like “kid friendly,” “minute recipe,” “special treat,” “freezer friendly,” and even a “slow cooker” option. My current favorite recipe is the Broccoli Cheddar Egg Muffins. They use goat cheese (lactose intolerance for the win) and are a great way to plan ahead some breakfasts, the mean I am most likely to eat poorly.
The cover and promise of quick, affordable and delicious food recipes that will make it easy to follow a healthy lifestyle every day had me sold straight away. This cookbook focuses on showing everyone that it is doable to start changing your eating habits and that there are literally 'no excuses' to be posponing the change. No Excuses Detox talks about the most common excuses and shows a wide variety of recipes that will please even the most complicated eater. I do admit I wasn't convinced by everything that was talked about in the introduction and I think some of the points were a bit too complicated to be called simply 'no excuses'. That said, the recipes are without doubt excellent and I liked that the author showed just how cheap a healthy meal can be. I have quite a few marked and I will be looking forward to try out more. If you are looking for healthy recipes, No Excuses Detox is without doubt a little goldmine.
No Excuses Detox is a great recipe book if you're after comfort food without all the guilt!
The information about eating healthy, and leading a healthier life, looks great and very useful. However I've just focused on the selection of recipes to try out, all of which I know are nutritious, healthy (because that's the point of the book, after all!) and which I can also use as a base to customise - ie. adding fish or other ingredients, if I want to. A lot of the recipes are healthier versions of favourites or take-away style meals that are traditionally very calorie-packed and not particularly nutritious, so this is a great alternative.
The recipes are easy to follow, and don't require too many crazy ingredients. There are some that I'll need to buy if I want to copy the recipe exactly, but most of them I can imagine subbing certain ingredients for others and getting a good result nevertheless.
As someone who has recently bought a pressure cooker but found I need some guidance on timings etc, and therefore on the look out for pressure-cooker-friendly recipes, this book is GREAT. It tells you if the recipe fits into certain categories eg. freezer friendly, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, etc etc OR if it's a pressure cooker or slow cooker recipe.
For veggies this is great as it's all plant-based, and many recipes can be adapted to be vegan or to other requirements. I also loved that the author included costs too, so you have some idea how miuch of a cost-effective recipe it really is. Basically, the author has done all the hard work for you and made a super easy to follow, informative cookbook.
I've only tried a few recipes so far but they've tasted nice (a few I felt needed a bit more seasoning, but that's easy to adjust and depends on the person), and a few others I've used as a general idea which I've then changed slightly depending what I feel like. Photos look lovely but not too perfect, so that's a win from me too!
This is, ultimately, a really great recipe book and I'd highly recommend it for anyone wanting to eat healthier but whilst still feeling a bit indulgent. There's some recipes which I wouldn't bother making or which don't really appeal, but also a lot that I'll be trying out in the near future!
Lots of fun interesting recipes. Not for my family if the reactions were anything to go by but yummy all the same, in my opinion.
It is the time of year to be thinking about revising diets and No Excuses Detox is perfectly timed to be released in mid-February (make the change for the ones you love). This cookbook builds on an earlier, popular release from Megan Gilmore and on her blog at Detoxinista.com. The recipes contained here involve relatively few (always a plus for me!), healthy ingredients and easy ideas (sweet potato queso) that I would probably not have imagined. I am looking forward to trying some of these and to reading her blog more regularly. Beautiful, colorful pictures offer another appealing feature of this cookbook.
I cooked a few recipes to test out this cooking book and must say, they were quiet good. A few have become new favorite recipes for my family but one thing bugged me: the cooking/ preperation times were a bit off for me. Either I took way longer or way less time for me to prepair or cook things.
Some of the recipes I didn't try, were not really new to me. So if you love Detox/ Clean Eating cooking, you propably know a few recipes or recipe ideas. This book in my opinion is more targeted at a beginner audience for this eating profile.
No Excuses Detox Diet can be read in two different ways. The intended way of utilising it to improve your eating habits and get rid of the bad and unnecessary toxins in your body, or the way that I have used it; to get more recipes to widen the variety of food that you have whilst having a healthy menu that tastes great.
If you are worried about the cost of eating healthy, No Excuses Detox Diet shows you how surprisingly cheap eating healthy can be. With each recipe, Gilmore provides the cost of each recipe so you know exactly how little it can actually cost.
No Excuses Detox Diet is a plant-based and gluten-free cookbook but does have the option to be soy-free, egg-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, vegan or you can add meat if you so desire. It also includes a handy guide of if the recipe if a 30 minute recipe, a 15 minute prep time, kid friendly (your children can make it with you or by themselves with supervision), freezer friendly or is a slow / pressure cooker option.
If you want to widen the variety of food that you eat whilst keeping it healthy, or if one of your New Years Resolutions is to get a healthier lifestyle then No Excuses Detox Diet is a great cookbook for you.
