Jane Eyre is on my TBR for so many years but I don't know why i didn't start it yet. I am glad I found the manga version of it because it was an amazing read. Now I should read the original story.
We need more manga classics!

Finally an adaption of Jane Eyre in a visual form that not only captures the spirit of the original story but adds much to it. Jane Eyre is my favorite book of all time, I am always seeking adaptions of this book and this was by far my favorite. The anime-style was adorable and was able to capture every aspect of the setting, characters, and plot of the book. I felt like I was reading the book again for the first time. I love that this version doesn't try to change the original language to more modern terms. The dialogue and descriptions were kept the same, I was able to recognize all of my favorite quotes from the novel. I was thoroughly impressed by this adaption and I definitely want to seek out more from this series.

I always find I enjoy adaptations of Jane Eyre more than actual Jane Eyre and this is no exception. Once again, the Manga Classics series does an excellent job of adapting the story while maintaining the integrity of the original language. The art, while making Jane seem too young at times, served well to emphasize the playful and sometimes childish banter between the leads endearing to me a relationship that always bothered me.

I absolutely loved this retelling. It's been years since I last read Jane Eyre, but the manga brought it back to life. It's like reading the cliff's notes version of the story with pictures. SunNeko Lee did an amazing job with the artwork and the Crystal Chan's story adaptation was perfect. Now I want to go back and reread the original!

Manga version of the classic book, had fun reading it. I hadn't read the classic or did read it but it has been so long since I did I didn't remember. So getting the manga version to read was good way of getting into this world.

This was an excellent way to read one of my favorite classics! This is a great way to introduce classics to people who would otherwise never consider reading them.

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books that I've read. It's one of those books that I reread every year at least once. And thank you to NetGalley for a copy of Manga Classics: Jane Eyre.

The story of Jane Eyre is wonderful. It's about a young girl who is mistreated by her relatives after being orphaned. She is sent away from them to a school for children and learns to grow up quickly. The love between Jane and Mr. Rochester is phenomenal. But we all know the story of Jane Eyre.

The Manga Classic: Jane Eyre is exceptionally done. I love the artwork. The chibi style brings something new to a classical book. The art brings alive the story that I love. I do miss some of the things that you will never get when reading a GN/Manga that you get from reading a full length novel, but it was extremely well done.

I would recommend this book to anyone young or old.

I found myself sucked into the story with the beautiful illustrations of this edition of Jane Eyre. I would absolutely recommend this to those who want to read classics, but are concerned about being engaged with dense material. I would also recommend this to a fan of Jane Eyre who is looking to experience the story in a new way.

PROS
I'm so deeply in love with this adaptation that I can't even! I couldn't put it down once I started it! <3 I like that there are so many manga adaptations of books I have never read - they serve to me as a thermometer of whether I should consider picking the original story later on or not. And Jane Eyre is another "yes"!

CONS
I honestly can't think of a single flaw on this adaptation.

COVER ANALYSIS
I loved how much emotion was portrayed in such a simple and elegant illustration. I can sense everything that Jane has endured in life and, at the same time, her hope for happiness. It's amazing.

RECOMMENDED FOR
Manga, Comics and Classic lovers!

Another great adaptation by Manga Classics. I've been a fan of the Jane Eyre story and watched movie adaptations of it, but haven't read the actual book quite yet. This manga does a good job including many little moments and events that I hadn't recalled from other adaptations. The hefty 300+ page count definitely helped in making the story fuller and getting into nitty-gritty details, but the chapters are also well organized in and the pacing is quite fast with large, clean panels.

As usual I love the art style by SunNeko Lee, who also did a fabulous job with the adaptations of The Scarlet Letter and Les Miserables. Characters look distinctive and charming. Child characters stand out as being extra adorable, Rochester's ward Adele comes to mind. The only point that may be of concern to some is in Jane looking so young and perhaps a bit too pretty given Jane's supposed plainness. People can probably can tell from the cover if this will be an issue for them personally.

A note about the dialogue and overall script. I was relieved to find that these aspects, while convincingly faithful, were still very easy to understand from a modern perspective. Though the original book is from the mid-1800s, the motivations of the characters and their feelings are simply grasped. There are also several pages toward the end detailing the adaptation process and a long note expanding upon the role of a governess at that period of time, adding further context to Jane's duties. The little added details are nice to see. Overall, another great adaptation.

Note : Many thanks to Netgalley and Udon Entertainment for providing me an e-ARC of this title for the purpose of review.

I love this brilliant adaptation of one of the most famous classics in English literature: Jane Eyre. I have read Jane Eyre so many time and truly enjoy reading this manga.

Jane Eyre, is an orphan with grew up with cruel family members and an abused childhood. She is cast out by her aunt, and is sent to Lowood, a charity school. Years later, she finds a job as a governess and meets Edward Rochester, the owner of the estate. Slowly they begin to bond but a secret threatens to ruin everything, both the reputation and the life of Jane Eyre.

This is an incredible story and written in this Manga really opens up this classic to more people, especially the younger readers who may find the story too intimidating or daunting.

This adaptation is incredible and the artistry conveyed the story well.

I love reading mangas so I was very interested in trying out this book.
I have to say the drawings are amazing, very well done, beautiful and creative.
I've read Jane Eyre before and it's one of my favorite classics.
However, as much as I loved the drawings which were so cute, the storyline left a lot to be desired. I can't quite remember Jane Eyre acting so emotional at times. I really wanted to like this book but it wasn't for me.
Though once again. I iterate that the artist who did the manga drawings did an amazing job.

For me, there is just something refreshing about classics revisited Manga style. Japanese style art flowing across the pages....reading right to left.... It's still the favorite classic tale I know and love. The Manga adaptation just gives a new feel to an old, favorite story.

I've read Jane Eyre probably 50 times. It's one of those stories I can re-read often, but still enjoy. And I loved the Manga Classic version! It follows the book closely, including illustrating most, if not all, of my favorite lines from the book. The artwork is awesome! From Pilot (Rochester's faithful dog) to Mrs. Fairfax, I liked the appearance of all the minor characters. As for major characters....Jane Eyre had a sweet face and Rochester was drawn with just the right amount of brooding darkness. The pages depicting Rochester's hidden, terrible secret as well as other important plot points were perfect!

I am always skeptical of adaptations. I have dnf'd many, many supposed continuations of favorite classic stories or re-tellings/adaptations because they just didn't stay true to my favorite classic stories. I am picky. But I have yet to be disappointed by Manga Classics. The story is always well depicted. The art is awesome each time. It's an enjoyable reading experience for me. I don't find myself frowning about weird plot changes, or missing characters/dialog. For the most part, they stick to the original...just condensing it a bit and illustrating the story. Love it! I'm ordering copies for my keeper shelf!

I thoroughly enjoyed this manga version of Jane Eyre!

This is probably my favorite manga classics adaptation that I have read so far. When I had to read this novel in college, I really hated the beginning half of the novel. I felt that too much time was spent detailing the landscape and providing seemingly insignificant details. This edition removed all of those issues that I had with the original novel. If this was the edition that I read in college, it would have been so much more enjoyable for me.

Alas! I’ve found a way to read classics through this Manga Classics series. I never knew they exist until I saw one up for request on NetGalley. Thank you to Udon Entertainment for giving me the chance to enjoy reading this one.

Though I know, it’s still better to read the novel, but for people having a difficult time getting into some classics, this manga adaptation would surely help you read classics in an enjoyable way. If I will read the book, maybe it would take me a week to finish it, but with this manga adaptation, it only took me five hours. Five hours! That’s an achievement for me since I’m also a slow reader. And, this is unputdownable too. I enjoyed reading the story while seeing the arts drawn inside. It adds more enjoyment in following Jane Eyre’s journey.

The story written by Charlotte Brontë is about a girl named Jane Eyre, who has bad memories in her aunt’s house, was sent out to a charity school to stay and receives an education, and later out, took a job as a governess on a place called Thornfield.

The story unravels gradually. It is exciting to read especially the pace is not slow. Since the story also used a bit of magical realism, it added more enjoyment on my part. There are a lot of elements that can be found in this novel. There is feminism stuff where we can see how a woman can be recognized as an “almost” equal of a man – she needs to have an education by attending a school. Then there is also romance on the part of Jane and Rochester. Then it also slightly touches mental illnesses because [SPOILERS].

I like Jane Eyre and how she developed throughout the story. She is admirable and even though she is plain and poor, she didn’t let it brings out the light in her. She definitely shines in her own ways. And some lovely people, like her friend Helen, whom she met indeed has a contribution to her personality.

There are a lot of characters in the story, and each has their own messages that I’ve grasped. If I’ll speak about it all, I might be spoiling you so I’m leaving the rest of knowing the other characters and what is their role in Jane’s life to you.

Now, since this is a manga, I’ll talk about the art. The drawings used in presenting the characters and the settings are awesome. I enjoyed following Jane’s journey while looking at the visuals. What I like the most is how the characters’ reaction over some news or events was shown. I find it engaging.

Overall, I think anyone who would like to read Classics can and will also enjoy the Manga Classics series by Udon Entertainment. It brings out a new experience for me because I have found a way to enjoy classics through its manga adaptation. I recommend this to everyone who likes reading classics and also to those who want to try reading classic literature in a manga form.

Jane Eyre: Manga Classic by Charlotte Bronte and Stacy King is a 2016 UDON Entertainment publication.

If are reading this review on Goodreads, then you can tell from my profile pic/avatar that I’m a huge fan of Jane Eyre. So, with my developing interest in Manga/Comics/Graphic Novels, choosing this book was a no- brainer for me.

Yet, at the same time, I might have been taking a risk, since the story is one my favorites. What if the graphics didn’t live up to my expectations or what if the story was restructured in a way that disappointed me? Well, I need not have worried. Stacy King has been the illustrator for several other Manga Classics and has always done a wonderful job of formatting these beloved stories into the Manga format. This one was no exception.

I’ve read Jane Eyre several times, have seen several movie adaptations, as well, but reading it with these vivid illustrations truly brings the story to life in a way anyone can appreciate and enjoy.

I won’t rehash the plot, as it is familiar to most everyone. I will say that this book is part of the reason I developed a love for Gothic fiction and is one of the reasons why it holds a special place in my heart.

So, enjoying this story again, in a new format has been a real treat. The artist did an amazing job with the characters’ facial expressions and period clothing, while adhering to the unique Manga art form. Although, I must admit, Jane isn’t really all that plain, in this book- she’s simply adorable!! The book is structured in such a way the reader is truly engaged and the story flows at a nice fresh pace.

Overall, this is another outstanding addition to the Manga Classics library.
