Beautiful art to make this story even more wonderful. Jane Eyre has been my favorite classic for years and this was great way to live through this story once more

Jane Eyre is arguably one of the most read classic books of all time, and yet somehow I've never read it. Not once. Whoops. I've watched the Crash Course video, but somehow I don't think that counts. This version is an illustrated version from Manga Classics, and yes I know comics and manga are different, but the easiest thing to say is: this is an awesome comic.

Manga Classics have versions of tons of famous books, from Shakespeare to Mark Twain (I absolutely have to get my hands on their version of The Count of Monte Cristo, which is one of my favorite books of all time).

This is a great book for people who want to read more classics, (like myself), but who just can't find the time or energy to wade through all of them. The art style is simple and charming (black and white, as is the case with most manga), and really brings to light the characters. I'm definitely planning on reading more of their work in the future (I already have Sense and Sensibility downloaded, thanks to Netgalley!) and I hope I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this one!!!

This was my first experience reading a proper manga, so I chose to start with a book I love and it was a great decision.

This manga captures the essence of this story and the drawings were simple, yet spot-on. The one thing that didn't exactly fit was that Rochester was too cute and the book describes him as ugly. However, being in love with him as I am, I loved to see him looking all handsome.

Five stars!

This is such an unique way to read the classics!
Definitely recommend if you want to read some classics, but in a quicker and easier way since classics are sometimes hard to read.

I am very fond of these adaptations of classics for manga, not only for the fidelity to the original book as for the care with the graphic adaptation as for the final explanations of the writer and the designer.
In Jane Eyre manga, I came across with smooth story full of lyricism where the characters' feelings overflow the pages and the richness of characterization of them transmit well the personality of each one.
For those who do not know this is a classic dramatic work of Charlotte Bronte one of the famous Bronte sisters, writers who marked the history of world literature. As was said in the synopsis ...
"The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but it is nevertheless considered the front of its time, given the individualistic character of Jane and the exploration of classism, sexuality and religion."

The book tells the story of an orphaned girl who knows human cruelty early on and still does not lose hope of having a better life with every step she takes.
Dedicated, correct, loyal and extremely measured, she falls in love with her boss. A love impossible to the standards of the time for various reasons (the great difference of age and social class, the situation of his life, among others reasons) and that she tries at all costs to keep within herself.
Mr Rochester behaves, in my view, as a needy boy, a man desirous of attention and extremely romantic guy, with a big heart full of love. He, full of tricks, acts at various times to find out what Jane feels for him and this in the graphics is very clear, something I had not noticed much in the movie. (but I love the movie too, just for the record).
Another different detail of the film and that left the book complete was that the manga took the story to the end of the original classic which to the delight of fans completely closes this beautiful and suffered love story.
The cover for me is one of the most beautiful in is great collection. So cute, so sweet,so strong.
I need to say more? But I recommend it too much for everyone.

Jane Eyre is among my favorite classics and I was so thrilled to discover this manga adaption . Even if the story is a bit shorter and less detailed than the original novel , the essence is still well captured. Charming illustrations too !

My first manga, knowing the story made it easier for myself to become use to how they are read. First the artwork is amazing it’s quite fun to see a classic reimagined in this style. There are some liberties taken with the story that help to progress the story. However as the end of this novel says; it is able to keep in things that movies usually exclude, Rochester dressed as a women. A great way to experience a classic for those that may not want to read an entire novel. The story stays true through most of this so you don’t miss out on the story. Definitely will be picking these manga classics up!

I cannot stop reading this series! I massively enjoy reading classics in the manga format. The art really helps bring the book to life. If it is somehow possible, I could really enjoy the "Gothic-ness" of the original novel more like this.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jane Eyre is a classic that I have wanted to read for a while. When I saw that there was a manga version of it, I was so excited. I love reading manga and I wanted to see what it would be like to read a manga adaptation of a classic.
I haven’t read the original so I don’t know how faithful the manga was but I will give my opinion of this book.
Jane Eyre follows a young woman from a child to an adult. She is an orphan brought up by her auntie who does not treat her well. She is then sent to a school for orphans, there she meets further bullying and sadness. When she is older she is employed as a governess, education a young girl in the care of Mr Rochester, a man living in mysterious circumstances.
Throughout this book I felt a variety of emotions; empathy, sadness, happiness, sadness again, hope and cheerfulness.
I feel as though the manga read a lot faster than reading the original classic would have been. The manga seemed to portray the story well, I felt the air of the period and I loved the characters even in an illustrated form. I wanted to discover the mystery and willed for Jane and Mr Rochester’s union.

However, I did have an issue with the end of the manga. I do not want to spoil the story for anyone so I cannot say exactly what my problem was but it was something that Jane said that I did not like. Additionally, there were some errors in the writing which was slightly confusing but if you have experience reading manga, this is nothing new.

Overall, if you like manga and you like classics I would definitely recommend this book! I really enjoyed it and I am glad that I read this manga version of the classic. I am now ready to read more manga classics!

4.5 stars.

Jane Eyre is a beautiful gothic love story that shines in any format. Having read the book, I can compare the accuracy of the adaptation this time around. Though there was the modernization of a few dialogues, overall, the book was well-adapted, keeping all the main plot points intact.

I liked the chibi-style art better than their Jane Austen novels, though I'm not sure how well that works for Jane's character since she's supposed to be independent and mature for her age. However, that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book, though. I liked the other character designs, especially Mr. Rochester. The backgrounds (Thornfield Hall) were well done. Overall, the art was good.

I think the manga format conveys emotion really well. The story is expressed much better in a visual format as you can see the emotions the characters don't always express in words. In a genre like romance, that carries value. A picture's worth a thousand words.

The story was dramatic from a modern reader's point of view, but more standard for a gothic novel. As I mentioned earlier, Jane Eyre has a solid storyline. The relationship development is believable, the twists engaging, and the characters likable, all leading to my favorite- the happily ever after. Gothic novels are usually pretty tragic (Wuthering Heights, I'm looking at you) so, I'm happy this one's an HEA.

Another thing that stands out about this story is Jane's character. She is an independent, strong-willed woman who chooses freedom over the convention, something which not many women did in the 1800s. As the reader, you want her to have a happy ending because she deserves it.

Overall, the manga was well-done and I highly recommend it to all Jane Eyre fans.

Pros:
1. Good art
2. Easy-to-read
3. Fairly accurate adaptation
4. Good emotion.
5. Stellar story.

Cons:
1. The chibi illustrations can be off-putting at times, especially because Jane and Mr. Rochester look so starkly different (in terms of art).

Jane Eyre as a comic is very fun to read. I enjoyed the story as a book when I was a kid and it was very refreshing reading it again as an adult in comic book form. I liked that comic stayed true to the book and followed the story line. it was basically a picture book for the story. The pictures were expertly drawn and the story was very well written. I would definitely recommend this comic to anyone that likes the historical books but wants to see a more lighthearted side to the story.

This story, Mr Rochester has always driven me up the wall and the conclusion--I just can't. That said this followed the story well. I think as an adaption it worked. The drawings lent more light emotions to this story than the novel.

For a story like this I think expressions are really important, because in the book Jane and Mr Rochester don't always say what they mean and it can make their eventual relationship feel forced and out of place. I still think it is even with this comic, but I think it did a better job of leading you to that point.

Writing and art style: Well this is based on Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, a classic I have never read. I originally requested this manga so that I could ease into the story by reading this first and see if I liked it. And I really did. It was interesting and so mysterious, right up my alley to be fair. The writing is as most classic books but most of the time we only have access to what the characters are saying so there's a limit to how advanced the writing can get. The art in this was fantastic. It was easy to understand but not simplified by any means. I love the attention to details and how the facial expressions portray every feeling.

Characters: I really liked Jane. She did what was the best thing for her and she never gave up on the things she wanted. Mr. Rochester has some appeal to him, I was rooting for him and Jane after all, but I think that had more to do with the fact that I wanted to see Jane have some happiness and Mr. Rochester was the only one she had any affection for. Because this is a much shortened version of the plot I didn't get to know many of the other characters well enough to make up an impression.

Plot: The plot was unique for its time, and to still be unique after all this time has passed is a rare thing. I'll have to read the original work to fully grasp the plot to its full potential, I need more details. What I did get through this edition though was great, the plot twists were also shocking which I'm always raving about. Really recommend this to people who have already read Jane Eyre and want the art aspect, but also to readers like me that saw Jane Eyre as a daunting task and wanted to test the waters a bit first.

As Jane Eyre is one of my all-time favorite books EVER, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to read this version when I saw it on NetGalley. I mean, Jane Eyre with pictures?!

This is my first ever Manga Classics read and I have to say, they did an amazing job! The story isn't in it's entirety, but the writers managed to keep the integrity of the original story and include all of the most important elements.

Whether you have never read Jane Eyre and would like to start with this version, or if you're like me and have read it several times--I suggest grabbing a copy of this amazing read!

I'm not a particular fan of this classic but I loved the idea of it being presented as a manga and so I decided to give it a go. I still don't really like the story itself but I loved the art! It's perfect if you like the book and would like to see it animated ^^

I was auto-approved by the publisher Udon Entertainment through NetGalley to review this title.
Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre holds a special place in my heart and on my permanent bookshelf and I’m glad Manga Classics decided to turn it into a comic.
The artwork beautifully captures the atmosphere of the story and emphasizes the remoteness and isolation of the characters.
Overall, I enjoyed this comic tremendously and would recommend it to manga and classic literature enthusiasts.

I was unable to read and therefore review this book because I couldn't get the proper file. I contacted the NetGalley help and despite their suggestions, I still couldn't open the files. I also messaged the publishers through the 'send opinion' option but they did not reply. Therefore, I can not review this book.

As a child, Jane Eyre was mistreated by her relations and sent away to Lowood Institution where her constant companions were isolation and disengagement. After turning 18, Jane decides to make her own way in the world and acquires a position at Thornfield Hall as a governess.
Shortly after, Jane meets the master of the house, Mr. Edward Rochester, and a strange feeling overcomes her.
Could this be love?
Yet the world is a harsh place with dark secrets, social boundaries, and hesitant hearts.
Still...despite everything...
...can love defy the odds?
🌟

From an artistic perspective alone, this work is an absolute treasure that belongs on your bookshelf. I loved reading the original book followed by "Manga Classic: Jane Eyre" that elevates classic literature to another level. The manga not only enables readers to connect with the past, but also conveys the gist of the story through visual narratives and translates the dialogue into understandable text for the modern age. The illustrations heighten the characters inner-emotions through their facial expression to the point where readers start to see the characters as individuals rather than constructs of fiction and literature.
