Reading this classic tale was on my 2023 reading list and this version definitely made the experience even more enjoyable! The art is wonderful and made the story easy to read through. I would definitely recommend if you have been wanting to venture into the classics but the stories alone seem intimidating.
Jane Eyre is a literary classic that I have loved since I was a young child along with books like Little Women, Pride and Prejudice and Les Misérables. I have always been interested and have enjoyed reading new interpretations of these stories visualized through different authors. It is always extremely interesting to see how authors and in this case artists stay true to the original story while making sure that it also fits into the new format.
Manga is a very specific style of art and I enjoyed seeing how the artist interpreted the characters descriptions from the book into a visual format. This book and all the other books I have read from Manga Classics have all done a wonderful job adapting the story into a new format while still remaining true to the original. If you like reading manga, I recommend this book,. If you like the original Jane Eyre, this is a wonderful interpretation and if you want to get into either the classics or into manga, this is a wonderful bridge between the two.
Having previously enjoyed another book in this series, and having loved the story of Jane Eyre for many years, it's of no surprise to me that I loved this adaptation.
These Manga adaptations are immensely readable. They convey the bulk of the story (though I will note that a few of the exquisite details from the book are sadly, if understandably, missing) and remove the "classic books are hard to read" factor that put some people off of them. (a quick side note, Jane Eyre is utterly readable even if you generally struggle with classic literature, it's very modern in its writing and pacing).
The drawings are lovely, I really liked the way of dealing with the French dialogue in the book (using double speech bubbles to indicate it), I did like the way 'pretty' vs 'plain' characters were drawn, it was easy to work out where someone's place in society was meant to be.
I'd highly recommend this book, I've added a hard copy to my wishlist!
I received an advance copy for free from NetGalley, on the expectation that I would provide an honest review.
It`s sad, I could not read the book because graphical designs do not work with the ebook reader. But I am sure that the book is good, I do love classics and I read manga sometimes. I'm sure that people who don't usually read novels have a good chance to appreciate classics in another way. Love to see it in the bookshelves.
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as a manga. I love the added instructions on how to read, they're super clear and easy to understand. The art is super cute and really adds to the story. I think this will be my new favorite way of reading the classics.
Well, it is certainly different then reading the novel. The classic story of jane Eyre in Manga form is refreshing and interesting. Best for those who are do not want to spend hours reading the original novel and those who are find comics to be more engaging.
The Classic Manga of Jane Eyre is great for anyone’s fans of Charlotte Bronte’s work. It also is a great way to introduce the story to those who struggle with reading the classics. I loved it. I thought the art work was fantastic. I think the authors did great with the dialogue considering there was a lot that happens in the original. I did get a little bit confused. I have yet to read the original so I wasn’t aware of the storyline. I will say reading this made me want to read the original even more. I recommend this to anyone who wants to read a classic but either struggles with reading them or if they want to visit a classic in a new fun way!
Not a story I liked but I liked the manga. I felt this incorporated more of the original novels manuscript. Rather than an more modern adaptation.
I am a huge fan of Jane Eyre. Not sure that the Manga version was for me though. I did enjoy the illustrations and the story but it just fell flat of the original.
Reading this Manga was a great way to revisit one of my favourite stories of all time. This was the first manga I have ever read and following reading-direction was quite challenging. I really liked the illustrations and I am looking forward to experiancing more classics in manga-form!
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics and I was intrigued by this edition, the drawing style is lovely (it was the first thing that caught my attention)
It is a great adaptation, faithful to the original novel. In this version the story is easy to read, with the iconic quotes from the original novel, the drawing style is beautiful, and the characters should be average or ugly, but here everything is beautiful. The manga captures the essence of the story and makes the necessary modifications for this format, for me the story felt a little more youthful, even with its air of mystery.
Read it if you're a fan of the novel and want something more or if you're intimidated by the classics, reading the manga is a good way to start
This book was really interesting! I was intrigued by the storyline and that's what initially drew me to this title. I also really love the cover artwork.
Manga Classics Jane Eyre was a fun and unique way to read one of my all time favorite stories! I love the artwork and comic style layout of the story. It kept the character and vibe of Jane Eyre while making it new and interesting for a different group of readers.
I think that it's really awesome to take a classic and turn it into a manga. My biggest issue is that it's hard to read on a tablet/phone. Since they are read back to front, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to start the book. Also the page breaks are not very easy to see so sometimes you can not tell what page you are on.
Jane Eyre has had an abusive childhood at the hands of her aunt. When she is cast out to a charity school, it ends up being the best thing. With an education she is able to become a governess for the mysterious Edward. Secrets threaten to tear everything apart. What will she do?
The manga was alright, the story is familiar so i know what i am going in to. But it was nicely illustrated.
Jane Eyre is one of the classics I seem to must read as a female student of English literature but I never really wanted to until I got accepted for this arc of the Manga Classic. And I gotta say, the story really wasn't for me, but I still enjoyed the Manga very much. I love mangas in general, but all the Manga Classics tend to take a special place in my heart for their easy access to all these classic stories one "should" know. Again, the artstyle was incredible and I loved it so, so much, it is just so pretty to look at!

My thoughts…
Jazz Hands 👐🏼 I’m a huge fan of Manga Classics now! And the above classics were familiar to me but yet, reading them in this format gave me new thoughts and feelings. The illustrations were incredible that brought characters I’ve met before even more alive. If you’re not use to manga comics, reading back to front, will need getting used tobut it’s not a big deal. If you’ve been meaning to read classics, these are great introductions to them. I want to start collecting them now!
Jane Eyre was one of the very first books I read and that's why it holds a special place in my heart. But I know for a fact that there is so much more than nostalgia going for this book. I loved the connections Jane forms with people, I love her personality, her humbleness, her charm, her bond with Adele everything. And I personally believe that this classic is one of the most underrated classic novel in terms of getting good adaptation. One of the most beautiful things about this book was how the main hero had so many un-herolike quirks, and no adaptation was ever able to capture that. But this manga went the extra mile. It represented a very accurate image of Rochester. He was weird, moody, temperament, unpredictable, jealous, and just an overall weirdo. This manga brings that to life. Plus, the heart hitting topics are dealt with immense care and intricacy. If you love Jane Eyre, don't watch any adaptation, read this manga instead.
This collection of illustrated manga classic novels brings us "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë. A dark victorian story about an orphan girl who wants to live by herself. The Brontë sisters are talented and their works are addictive. I liked this adaptation, but I wouldn't say I like the art.
